Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

I'm also shamelessly placemarking. I scrolled so quick to see the end and t hasn't happened!!!

Notwiththeseknees · 10/01/2019 21:41

Make sure you are prepared OP, bin men can be nocturnal (when it suits) and could whoosh along the kerb at sparrows fart. Could you perhaps wait all night in the front garden? Have you a little tent you could pop up? It would be a shame after all this anticipation to lose out on victory due to being unprepared.
Failing that, make sure DH has his slippers ready by the side of the bed, pointing in the right direction and his dressing gown ready to throw on (unless he is a hardy bugger). Failing to prepare is preparing to fail Wink

Sweetheart1313 · 10/01/2019 21:49

Placemarking for tomorrow too, I love a bin thread

Beautifulsunshine · 10/01/2019 21:57

We have new food recycling bins, I let the kids go crazy with stickers and leftover paint samples. No one is stealing our bin by ‘accident’!

MrsJDornan · 10/01/2019 21:58

I wonder if it's still there in the morning

Osirus · 10/01/2019 22:01

Good luck for tomorrow!

We also don’t have bins under our local authority; we never have. Something about it spoiling the look of the area (National Park and surrounding areas). It is quite nice not seeing great big bins everywhere, although picking rubbish up off the streets from torn bags on collection day is not the best fun either!

summersoonplease · 10/01/2019 22:29

Actually looking forward to the outcome , girl power 💪

TinyTimsCrutch · 10/01/2019 22:30

Betsy86 · 10/01/2019 22:38

Totally placemarking!! I ordered new recycling boxes and am wary of thieves I have some posh bin stickers from amazon even have street name on lol and new lids. Im feeling very precious about my nice bins at the moment Blush will be so angry if they vanish.... I hope you reclaim your bin op we are backing you!!!!

LittleScottieDog · 10/01/2019 22:41

Can you not superglue some stickers on? I'm not sure of bin etiquette - does it belong to you or do you just borrow it from the council? I'd totally be gluing shit all over it.

ChasedByBees · 10/01/2019 22:49

Our bin collections are still a day out too.

To those who don’t bleach their bin, a gold star for you. It’s not good for the environment at all.

GabsAlot · 11/01/2019 00:40

we dont have bins here just black bags for general waste

Reallyevilmuffin · 11/01/2019 00:47

This reminds me of when someone stole our recycling boxes. Utteer madness as they are free from the council. Annoying couple of weeks waiting for the replacement

Atchiclees · 11/01/2019 01:29

I have see a bin marked up with this sticker (with appropriate number on) locally. It must have been done post bin war Grin

Fivenights, Badlydrawn - I don't bleach mine but I rinse it and sprinkle it with Zoflora (that staple of the Monstrous MN Regiment of Wimmin!).

That's because in the summer it is usually full of dismembered rabbits, half-chewed magpies, headless rats, and on one memorable occasion, a stoat! Our cats have got a lot to answer for.

Even though these poor innocents of the forest are double-bagged when they go in, the flies know about it and do their level best to get at them and fill my bin with maggots. When we had goldfish, I used to scrape some off to feed their little piscine faces - they loved 'em! But we lost our last two last year.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/01/2019 01:33

Atchiclees

Now THAT, I like!

Atchiclees · 11/01/2019 01:47

Schaden - If ever I get into a bin war, I will be having one of those myself!

Strokethefurrywall · 11/01/2019 01:58

As a Brit living overseas who's garbage goes in a communal dumpster, this thread has my absolutely frigging riveted!!

Bin stickers? Bin wars?? Bin theft? I feel like I've missed out on so much in the decade since I left.

I'm on EST so fuck me I hope there's an update when I wake up!!

Stand firm OP. And maybe buy a bike chain and chain it to a drain pipe if that helps? Or tell the fucker the jig is up and you know he's a shistey bastard! 😁

VeganCow · 11/01/2019 03:15

Also placemarking for bin update. Beats a parking thread by a mile

BlahBlahRidiculous · 11/01/2019 03:36

I must know what happens! Waiting Bon an update Smile

TuMeke · 11/01/2019 03:51

Love a nice bin thread Grin

Our rubbish bin is smaller than the rest of our neighbours’ so no real risk of it being stolen, but we do engage in an ongoing PA placement dance with next door on one side, as our driveways are adjacent and they like (for some reason) to wheel their bins to curb side on our driveway on collection day instead of their own. It’s bizarre! I tend to wheel them back if I spot them (and no one’s watching me Wink) but still they persist...

SandAndSea · 11/01/2019 03:54

I thought I would post in the interests of balance as it's not always a 'bin wars' situation. My neighbour has lovely, stick-on numbers on his bin and we still somehow managed to swap bins for several weeks. We had his bin in our front garden for days before we even noticed! I told my dp, who forgot immediately (assuming he was even listening). When I eventually remembered to mention it to our neighbour, he hadn't noticed and wasn't bothered. I'm pretty sure they're swapped back now. (Though I think another neighbour might have our box.)

Earthmover · 11/01/2019 04:01

This thread has just reminded me that I need to get onto the council for a new one.
Noticed a lot of grey bins out earlier in the week so I put mines out too thinking collection day had changed due to holidays.
Went to add a bag to it on Wed and it was gone..along with the bin from the house next door.
That house has been sold and has had a team of foreign builders working on it for a few weeks.
I think they've decided to take their bin and empty it in the van because they got fed up waiting on it getting emptied (it was overflowing) and thought they'd have mine too.
Can't see mine in their garden but they may be using it inside for rubble.

Cheeky ignorant bas....

Dhalandchips · 11/01/2019 04:01

I've just moved into an area with wheelie bins, haven't had a bin for years. But my new neighbour is a little old lady who I'm sure wouldn't dream of nicking my manky bin; hers have lovely lavender stickers on them! Good luck tomorrow OP!
