Are a size 10 or above?

My friend has suggested that my new year resolution should be to slim down and tone my body - st first I was offended, but I actually think she was genuinely trying to be helpful or perhaps, motivational? Grin

She’s a size 6 having focused on exercise/diet last year and lost 2 stone! I’m a size 10 and eat whatever I like Grin she thinks that once I’m 40 it’ll be hard to maintain my weight unless I join her as a fitness fanatic Hmm

AIBU to think that most of us over-35s are a size 10 or above though. She’s the exception not the norm - her lifestyle seems tedious as she lives at the gym.

@treehugger13 Grin love it!

Apparently it’s because you live in a slummy common area that’s why you’re so fat! You should live in an area like me where everyone has a beautiful house and is a Miss World contestant 😂 Congratulations on your 5 kids by the way!

Teateaandmoretea · 10/01/2019 12:29

I imagine this is to do with where you live, and where you spend your time. I live in London in a fairly middle-class area and go to the gym every day, along with a lot of dancers from the dance school next door. I see women with FABULOUS bodies every day.

A woman of 5'9 who was 6 stone would not have a fabulous body Hmm

Teateaandmoretea · 10/01/2019 12:33

Funnily enough, in 1990 I was a size 12. And I am exactly the same weight as I was then.

You probably shop in different shops though. And all this 26 inch waist guff they just cut clothes for one body type and not everyone was an hourglass. In my teens I couldn't find anything that sensibly fitted at all as the hips would be ludicrously large in comparison to the waist of say a 14. By 1998 I was a 12 and still am now.

I agree, the stealth boasting on here. Everyone is different, with different, genetics, bodies, lifestyles. There will be naturally slim women who are made that way, bit there will be curvy women like myself who will never be a size 8 and certainly not six, I would be very ill, and probably not have the energy to do the fitness I do. My optimum size is a 10-12 at 5ft 2, I am currently a 14 bottom, and 10-12 top.

halfwitpicker · 10/01/2019 12:41

I find that most women over 35 couldn't give a flying fig what anyone else thinks about their appearance.

Really? Crikey.

Treehugger, you're on the money

Come back, tree hugger!

Or can you not afford the bus fare?

goingonabearhunt1 · 10/01/2019 12:46

I'm huge compared to most on this thread. Size 10 and under 35 Grin

Wenttoseainasieve · 10/01/2019 13:00

What's all this rambling on about women who are a size 4, but they aren't a size 4 Confused

If a woman is wearing a size 4 and it fits, she's a size 4. Not a size 8 in denial because decades ago what is now a size 4 is now a size 8. Honestly ...

Disclaimer: not a size 4, of either this century or the last. I'm an 8, or am I a 12.

aintnothinbutagstring · 10/01/2019 13:06

I'm 34 5'7 and have never been a size 6, would never happen. Have been a size 8 top but that's usually t-shirts with a bit of give or vanity sized. I am big boned (not sorry, it does exist as I have big hands/feet/wrists) so there's a limitation as to what dress size i can go down to.

Tubie · 10/01/2019 14:34

The lightest 5'9" on here is 90lb is over 6stone, and I am afraid to say definitely underweight.

The two who are at 7 stone the same.

Lots more just over the 8 stone mark, but are looking much healthier

Roomba · 10/01/2019 14:43

I'm 42, 5'2" and a size 8. Have been since I had DS1 13 years ago. Before that I was a 10-12 from being a teenager. I haven't found that my metabolism has slowed down as I've got older, the opposite if anything. I'm an oddity in my family though, my female relatives spend hours discussing how I must be bulimic or have a medical issue as I'm not overweight like they are. We seem to eat similarly so it must be the amount of exercise we do?

stevie69 · 10/01/2019 14:45

I don't know, to be honest as I haven't conducted any research on the matter.

For the stats, I'm 51 and a size 8.

I’m over 40, 5,3, size 8, very small frame and weigh 8,4, I’ve spent the last year shovelling carbs and all manner of healthy fats down my throat to get to this weight. I was a size 4/6 and weighed 7,6 on a heavy day. I hated being skinny, I now have some curves and I’m very happy. I don’t know why being skinny is a reason to boast, I didn’t like being a bag of bones, I had hip bones sticking out, my bum was flat, boobs were like fried eggs, my face was starting to look drawn and my coccyx always used to hurt if I sat on a hard chair for too long. The comments from some people (usually women sadly) could be hurtful. Being too skinny is nothing to boast about imo.

I agree with the supposition of there being lots of deluded/fanciful posts on the vast majority of threads discussing size in relation to age/weight/parity.

Its just so sad that even on anonymous forums women are so conditioned to compete over physical attributes.

Dress it up any way you choose to but the subtext is "I'm more valuable as a female because I am slimmer/appear younger/appear wealthier"

The worst things you can be here are fat, old, poor and common.
Cue women falling all over themselves to prove to each other that they are jone of those things.
This is where women are deriving their self esteem from.

Viva la patriarchy
