I've named changed for this.

In your opinion. Not listening to social media or hear say or stereotypes.

If you were to go on a date what would be the one job that would put you off?

I think my husbands would come in the top 3 😩😩😩.

It's not new we have been together 12 years but when I mention it on here no matter what the bloody subject is they use his job as the reason for my post!!!

Oh that’s true teachers are filthy buggers

As are doctors or nurses

Must be working for the state - a corrupting influence

LadyRenoir · 08/01/2019 21:00

Mortician
Binman
Whatever you call people working in sewers

Although unemployed and not looking for any work would be at the top of the list.

I once went on a few dates with a guy who had some nice steady job. But he was dreaming of quitting it to become a writer, except that he never even wrote anything in his life. He pretty much wanted to just hang around the house looking artistic. Thanks, but no thanks.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/01/2019 21:01

Bringer-in of the dead
Susanna Reid's co-host
Covering all of the barf over with sawdust at a theme park
Tony Blair's Food-Taster
Wielder of the Jobby-net at the swimming pool

All those saying bin man, is it that gross and/or smelly an occupation these days - pushing closed wheeled containers to a lorry, pressing a button and then pushing them back again? Effectively, is it that different from collecting trolleys in the supermarket car park? The physical skills are pretty much similar, I would have thought.

@Bellatrix14 I have a lot of reasons why I consider porn to be immoral and have no wish to derail the OPs thread. This is user friendly and sums up a few reasons www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-porn-public-health-crisis-commentary-20160409-story,amp.html

But I’ve no wish to enter into any further discussion on the OPs thread nor to start one of my own.

In the (70s/80s) sitcom "Frazier", the character "Roz" met a man she rather liked. She freaked out when she discovered he was a gynaecologist.
Is that a worst job for women?

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/01/2019 21:03

I can understand why people wouldn’t choose a partner in the armed forces. Aside from any potential political aspects, it is dangerous work that often takes the person away from their family for long periods.

cantbeb0thered · 08/01/2019 21:04

@oreo1234 yes you do get help with the commute. He will get the equivalent of two return journeys home into his pay every month. It is called 'Get You Home'. He can get help to buy to get on property ladder and can get military housing if you move to his base.

Anyway, I am in he navy as is my husband so I empathise.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 08/01/2019 21:04

Many years ago Iwent on a tour of a sewage treatment works. My vision of hell changed that afternoon.

Men stripped to the waist in the caking house, using giant wooden scrapers to scrape off the paddles that impressed the solids. It was everywhere, including on their faces. Most people of them appeared to have learning difficulties or mental handicaps of some kind.

Utterly utterly appalling.

Betty777 · 08/01/2019 21:05

is he a gynaecologist?

tbh I wouldn't mind that in a partner, think it would show that he was enlightened and pragmatic. And likely well paid

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 08/01/2019 21:05

oreo1234. Mmm. I thought Marines were the bees knees. All that “grey man” shit, and being good at everything.
Unfortunately despite being some of the most honest and loyal males ( to other blokes) in turns out all three well I knew were cheating twats. On a serious level. Including a second family.
So I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole now.

I wouldn’t want anyone involved in any career that involved religion.
No one that has to wear a suit and tie to work.
Anyone that directly hurt other people ie porn, loan sharks, hard men

Pluckedpencil · 08/01/2019 21:05

Really surprised so many people said salesman. I've known quite a few through work and they have all been extremely nice genuine blokes, hence why they make good salesman. I think most salesmen sell products they think are decent!
I couldn't stand a musician or actor. So bloody serious about themselves in general!

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 08/01/2019 21:05

*compressed the solids, not impressed them!

Jsmith99 · 08/01/2019 21:06

The poor buggers who stand all day in shopping centres trying to recruit people into the AA / RAC. They all look like middle-aged guys who used to have ‘proper’ jobs but were made redundant and thrown on the scrap heap. It must be utterly soul destroying and degrading for them.

oreo1234 · 08/01/2019 21:06

@cantbeb0thered yes I've heard him mention that. I thought it was get your own pay lol. The accountant is always asking him to send in proof x

‘Lack of emotion’ ?! What does that mean? Soldiers (etc) don’t have feelings? Hmm. Strange perception. As for cheating, plenty of people are unfaithful. 9-5 job, unemployed, or working away for long periods.

oreo1234 · 08/01/2019 21:07

@SheWoreBlueVelvet thanks for that

eleigh66 · 08/01/2019 21:08

This guy I was seeing used to work with the dead people in hospital. I have a huge phobia of anything to do with death (hence not knowing the correct terms for anything, I couldn’t bare to google it) so it did creep me out a bit

oreo1234 · 08/01/2019 21:09

@DonDrapersOldFashioned my husband would probably have been like that before he joined though

OP posts:
Bunnyfuller · 08/01/2019 21:09

I think being married to someone in the forces is really hard, but must be doubly hard not living together even in the UK. You’ve kind of made it harder by doing this. Could you not rent your place out and go into quarters so you spend some decent time together? That has to be rough on the DCs too.

of course you don’t get help with the travel or mortgage, why would you?! The benefits are still very competitive (leave allowance, medical and dentistry, gyms, adventure sports etc) but it is something you certainly need to work harder on to keep the marriage on track. I came out on voluntary redundancy with immediate pension and a chunky cheque - very lucky as I knew I couldn’t carry on once I had my DCs. Personal decision but it was just a step too far.

pissedonatrain · 08/01/2019 21:10

Working is better than not working of course

Jobs that involve cheating, lying, and harming people and animals.

Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2019 21:12

A marine?? Christ, what an anticlimax. Confused.

Anyhoos, to play the game:

Multi-level marketing promoter
Motivational speaker
Someone who throws baby chickens in the shredding machines

I have no inherent opposition to a spouse who is a "man of the cloth", so long as he isn't a bloody missionary. The Sentinelese people have a most effective way of dealing with such types... Grin

SD1978 · 08/01/2019 21:12

Sex trafficker, arms dealer, drug dealer. Otherwise if they do it to the best of their ability, and with respect- is at least hear them out.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/01/2019 21:13

I can’t see the fuss re gynaecologists. What’s the worry? Is that they’ll judge your genitalia? They don’t spend their days looking at porn-star-perfect vulvas, y’know.

TBH, the surgeon I wouldn’t fancy shacking up with is a cosmetic surgeon. I would be thinking they’d be mentally tweaking my less than perfect bits.
