Feeding my kids raw chicken??

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/01/2019 14:05

I don’t really know how to react to this, I fact I didn’t react at all I just took my kids, said goodbye and left.

A school mum has offered to have my kids over for lunch so I could attend an appointment today. Really nice of her, really appreciate it.

When I went to get them they were eating still and I went to sit with them at the table to see my two year old about to stick a piece of pink slimy chicken into his mouth. I made him give it to me then noticed that all the kids had undercooked chicken on their plates. I pointed this out to their mum and she laughed and said “Oh yeah they were really hungry and I didn’t have time to cook the drumsticks through properly so I just pulled all the bits that looked cooked off the bone.”

Aibu to think she’s a fucking idiot?? I was so stunned I just said we needed to go! Hoping they don’t get food poisoning Sad

God this happened to us once in a restaurant. DS had eaten half of his chicken meal before we realised. I hussled him straight into the lols to induce vomiting. Complaining to the restaurant (this was in the US) didn't help bc they just couldn't wrap their heads round the concept that chicken isn't like steak
He didn't get sick. I hope OP's DC doesn't either

NotUmbongoUnchained · 06/01/2019 21:31

She still hasn’t replied. Wondering if she will mention anything to my husband tomorrow on the school run!

Call social services on her. Is she insane!!!

SparklyMagpie · 07/01/2019 00:08

😂😂😂 I cannot stop laughing at this tool @limitedperiodonly constantly referring to your " doctor husband "

Yidette86 · 07/01/2019 00:18

I think someone is jealous of the fact you have a "doctor husband" by the state of their posts and mention of it Hmm

Glad so far you're children are ok, it will be interesting to hear her response if she bothers to, I honestly can't believe someone would be so stupid though.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/01/2019 00:18

That’s how I’m going to refer to him now forever more. I’ve just read back through her posts, she’s proper weird Grin

That's dreadful- why does she not understand how dangerous raw chicken is?

I guess at least at the first sign of D or V you should be able to request antibiotics as you will know that it's campylobacter or salmonella.

LLOE7 · 07/01/2019 01:11

That's shocking 😂 What on earth went through her head to do that?!
When I was pregnant myself, my partner and toddler were eating at a brewers fayre restaurant. I had a half a chicken, ate a lot of it and when I got to the middle it was still frozen! The waitress was mortified and took it away to replace it but I had lost my appetite Envy

Banana1979 · 07/01/2019 01:29

I hope you gave her what for! You need to as she obviously does this to her kids and HOW DARE she do this to yours. People xan and do die from eating raw chicken. I actually feel angry for you!

Beeziekn33ze · 07/01/2019 01:37

No one ever said ‘medium rare’ chicken was all right to eat.
Yellow Daffodil was referring to pork.

katykins85 · 07/01/2019 05:26

beezie actually earlier in the thread someone did say medium chicken was ok. There was a collective Confused in response!

x2boys · 07/01/2019 06:28

Yeah because over stretched social.services are going to rush out for some under cooked chicken Tellem Hmm

AgentProvocateur · 07/01/2019 06:45

She’s clearly not that bright, but if it’s any consolation my DS are a whole raw chicken breast out the fridge when he was 2 and suffered no ill effects.

Tellem2 · 07/01/2019 07:40

@x2boys they may not necessarily but its a sign of wider possible neglect, if she thinks its OK to feed kids raw chicken.

GertrudeCB · 07/01/2019 08:03

I'm curious- people who have come down with food poisoning days/weeks after eating the offending food, how did you know to attribute it to a particular food you ate all that time ago?
Well in my case the hospital had taken a stool sample and grew a culture which told them the exact strain of salmonella so they knew it had come from undercooked red meat and that's when the Infection control nurse gave me a questionnaire , this was cross referenced with other patients in a similar time frame and that's how they knew where it was from. Mine was ingested on a Sunday and symptoms started the following Thursday.

Beeziekn33ze - look at the link Hoopaloop posted on the previous page

CottonSock · 07/01/2019 09:12

@GertrudeCB. Similar for me and dh. It was followed up by environmental health and the place closed down not long after.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/01/2019 09:12

Absolute lol of a thread. Love limitedperiod jumping in with an aggressive burst aimed at the “doctor husband”

BartholinsSister · 07/01/2019 09:14

How do foxes manage?

MsTSwift · 07/01/2019 09:23

Not understanding the “doctor husband” sneers many friends of ours are doctors male and female it’s not a rare god like thing!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/01/2019 09:56

I’ve told my husband to renounce is doctorhood and become a plumber as he’s offended someone on the internet.

How do foxes manage? Hmm

Foxes, along with other mostly carnivorous animals like dogs, cats, ferrets etc are adapted to eat raw meat.
That is their natural diet.
It is incredibly rare for them to come down with things like salmonella and E. coli.

In fact, they often shed the bacteria in their faeces.

One commonly cited reason for not feeding dogs raw diets is that salmonella and the like have sometimes been found in their excrement.

The stomach acid of carnivorous animals is much stronger than ours so better adapted to deal with bacteria.

Their intestines are short, so food goes in and rapidly out.
This also reducing the risk of poisoning.
In humans and mostly vegetarian animals the intestines are long and the transit time is way longer.

Doggy
Interesting, thanks!

KatharinaRosalie · 07/01/2019 12:05

Jesus some people on this thread. Just because OPs kids are fine today does not mean feeding them raw chicken is no big deal.
