Feeding my kids raw chicken??

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/01/2019 14:05

I don’t really know how to react to this, I fact I didn’t react at all I just took my kids, said goodbye and left.

A school mum has offered to have my kids over for lunch so I could attend an appointment today. Really nice of her, really appreciate it.

When I went to get them they were eating still and I went to sit with them at the table to see my two year old about to stick a piece of pink slimy chicken into his mouth. I made him give it to me then noticed that all the kids had undercooked chicken on their plates. I pointed this out to their mum and she laughed and said “Oh yeah they were really hungry and I didn’t have time to cook the drumsticks through properly so I just pulled all the bits that looked cooked off the bone.”

Aibu to think she’s a fucking idiot?? I was so stunned I just said we needed to go! Hoping they don’t get food poisoning Sad

But there isn't a problem, is there, mate?

I agreed with you that eating undercooked chicken is not a good idea and said that I would not leave my children at her house again.

Presumably you and your doctor husband agreed that it wasn't a big deal because you went out, they are not ill and you are planning to send them to school tomorrow.

So what was the big panic about?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 06/01/2019 18:14

There wasn’t a big panic 🤷🏻‍♀️ You’ve imagined that yourself.

The 48 hour rule only applies if there has actually been vomiting or the shits, not in care there might be.

Are you chicken lady...c'mon fess up.it has to be you.

couchparsnip · 06/01/2019 18:25

If she responds with anything other than 'thanks I won't feed anyone uncooked chicken again' then she might need reporting to SS.
Or your DH (doctor husband) could talk to her in a professional capacity.

Pfingstrose · 06/01/2019 18:26

Glad they are ok so far OP.

I'm curious- people who have come down with food poisoning days/weeks after eating the offending food, how did you know to attribute it to a particular food you ate all that time ago? 🤔

GobblersKnob · 06/01/2019 18:37

Limited, you have to be the friend with the oven shy chicken?

PenguinPandas · 06/01/2019 18:39

I had campylabacta after 10 days or so, basically suddenly became very ill collapsing and lasted around 2 weeks (doctor said afterwards I should have been in hospital). I was asked to go through anything could have eaten in last 2 weeks that could have caused it and especially any restaurants. I said only thing could remember was about 10 days before DH had given me a chicken kebab and remember putting that it mouth and realising half of chunk eating was bloody. I got it out and saw was half bloody but had already eaten small amount. DH had a kebab from further in which was cooked and was fine. They said it would be that. Amazing can take so long when you feel fine and then wham.

Some people are just clueless about this stuff. Send pack lunch next time

Gth1234 · 06/01/2019 18:50

My wife objects to any uncooked meat. She doesn't like see the "pink" stuff on masterchef, especially pork. It's noticeable that they never accept undercooked chicken though.

I wouldn't let her feed my kids again.

Serialweightwatcher · 06/01/2019 19:57

Just because some ignorant moron puts a pic on the internet of salmonella strips, it's fine and everyone needs to chill out?

daffodillament · 06/01/2019 20:20

limitedperiod Why do you keep referring to the doctor husband ?

Nothisispatrick · 06/01/2019 20:24

I assume you’re just taking the piss as that image is often used on ‘most stupid internet posts’ type articles on buzzfeed and the like.

Busybusybust · 06/01/2019 20:36

In October I had a nasty bout of compylo bacter. I’ve never been so ill for 10 days in my life! Fairly sure it was caused by eating a tomato which I had chopped on a board which I had just before used for dicing chicken breasts. I hope your kids are ok.
