To hate red trousers on men?

This seems to be a status marker meaning I am very posh, so it doesn't matter if I look like a total nob.

@LakieLady

Why do any of the items you mentioned indicate someone is a twat?

LakieLady · 05/01/2019 19:16

We are a little posh

Is that the royal "we", Marguerita? Wink

Huntawaymama · 05/01/2019 19:16

My husband and I are not toffs, but a lot of his social circle is. I'll often pick him up after a days shooting and a few of them will be in smart red trousers and shirts and I think it's a really sexy look. I like smart'ness. I might save up and buy husband some

LakieLady · 05/01/2019 19:24

@MissSusan

No rhyme or reason, really, simple prejudice. They're not all my choices (I have no problem with tweed flat caps or panama hats, for example, but DP loathes them with a vengeance). Those vile, cheap polyester ties with ducks or labradors on are the height of naff imo though, and worn by the sort of old fart who gets a badly bred lab from someone whose dogs wouldn't last half a day in the field, but likes to wear the tie to make it look like he's part of the county set.

etsiketsi · 05/01/2019 19:36

In my little corner of Greece, summertime attracts lots of yachts and luxury villa groups. While most are lovely there is also always an element of shouting, drunk people treating locals like servants and driving around with road rage. It’s known locally with some mirth as Red Trouser Season.

MargueritaPink · 05/01/2019 19:38

I was clearly talking about my family.

You might want to have a look at some of your prejudices. Inverted snobbery is no better than the basic variety. Ageism is never a good look.

Subtlecheese · 05/01/2019 19:39

Christmas they're just clothes. I know what would result if a bunch of men were bit ching about women who wear particular colours. Get over yourself. Clearly they don't give a fuck what some random woman they don't know thinks of their choice in clothes (not a man, not fashionable just sick of judgy areas who decide exactly everything about me by my clothing choices)

MargueritaPink · 05/01/2019 19:40

It's one of the nastiest threads I've seen in a long time.

EdWinchester · 05/01/2019 19:44

Agree. Red trousers on a man are incredibly twatty.

MissSusanScreams · 05/01/2019 20:07

Agreed MargueritaPink

Heaven forbid we might talk to people before deciding anything about them.

My DH has a pair of red trousers for ages and he is a lovely guy.

We live in the countryside and lots of the people in my village for LakieLady’s description. Apparently we’re all twats. Good to know.

And those ties are almost always silk for shooting, not polyester.

WrapAndRoll · 05/01/2019 20:13

Trousers do not a tw@t make.

Judging people from other social groups by their clothes on the other hand...

Lomondstripe · 05/01/2019 20:23

‘Why is it ok to mock posh people but not ok to mock the poor?’...really?! Next we’ll be discussing ‘reverse racism’ - spoiler alert: it’s not a thing.

Whisky2014 · 05/01/2019 20:26

No we aren't confusing this with racism. Op is mocking the wealthy...its a thing for her. No one should be mocked.

Lomondstripe · 05/01/2019 20:32

I never suggested anyone was confusing it with racism but they both come down to who is in the power of privilege? It’s a case of punching up, not down from there. If OP sees red trousers and thinks ‘twat’, that’s her shout. But by all means, make out she’s the devil incarnate for having a passing thought on someone else’s attire.

Whisky2014 · 05/01/2019 20:33

Hardly a passing thought when she has created a thread about it hoping others will jump on the bandwagon to agree with her.

Lomondstripe · 05/01/2019 20:35

The same could be said for any thread - I don’t really understand how there’s call for this to be pulled when threads about interior design objects you hate run to pages and pages and that’s ok. What’s the difference between mocking red trousers and mocking live laugh love signs on someone’s wall?

Fontofnoknowledge · 05/01/2019 21:10

DH has red AND green cords, we live in East Sussex and he drives a land rover....however he has not and would rather cut of his own hand before he put his X in the Tory box... he has voted labour in each and every election since 1980. He is now 56.

Dont always judge a book by its supposed conservative cover. OP

JennyFisher12 · 05/01/2019 21:11

I love red trousers - to me it says ‘I don’t give a fuck’ which I find very attractive

MissSusanScreams · 05/01/2019 21:12

@Lomondstripe

It’s not actually about punching in any direction.

It’s about how fucking sad it is that some people limit their understanding and interactions with others based on superficial judgements. It’s crap however you cut it.

Posh does not equal twat. Just as poor doesn’t equal scummer. Those are both lazy, limiting stereotypes.

But if you want to led a blinkered existence then that’s your look out.

Lomondstripe · 05/01/2019 21:30

@MissSusanScreams I haven’t actually said anything about liking or disliking red trousers so not sure how I’m leading a blinkered existence Confused ironically as a country girl I don’t mind red trews as it goes, I just don’t really see where all this pearl clutching is coming from. Carry on though, don’t let me stop you!

Whisky2014 · 05/01/2019 21:49

It seems like it's the op pearl clutching here but i doubt she has any cause they'd be too posh for her.

Returning2thesceneofthecrime · 05/01/2019 21:58

First of all, posh and poor are not mutually exclusive. Posh people can be broke too, there is only so much family silver or land you can sell before you have to get a proper job.

Moving on to the fashion debate, the OP has clearly identified a link between red trousers and a certain type of people. I do think she is right. Red trousers are only worn by men who are confident enough not to care about defending their clothing choices to other people.

Are posh people disproportionately represented in that group? Well, that is a whole other thread.

Shockers · 05/01/2019 21:58

Red trousers are fine by me- in fact any colour trousers are fine by me.

People who hunt are utter twats imo, regardless of what colour trews they wear, or how ‘posh’ they are.

Disagree if you must, but it will never change my opinion.

Returning2thesceneofthecrime · 05/01/2019 22:04

I’m concerned about this now.

Like BME boys underachieving in schools, correlation is not causation but is still something that needs to be addressed. Should we start a clothes drive and collect red trousers for ‘the poor’? It might level the playing field so that the OP can see them as just as twatish as the rest of the population!

MissSusanScreams · 05/01/2019 22:14

@Lomondstripe

I’m just pointing out that it’s more twatty to judge people on what they wear than actually wearing red trousers.

I think you misunderstand what pearl clutching is. I not think it mean what you think it mean.
