He told me his teeth were 'chattering' when he got changed for bed 😂

Oh I shouldn't laugh! Also hope he's not as bad as he says because I don't want it want the baby to get it

@thighofrelief I’m just ignoring it. The problem is the more ignore it the worse he gets. He sounds like Chris fucking Eubank 🤦‍♀️ He’s now on the phone to his mum. She’s sent me a message asking me to tuck him up in bed! Wtf?? I’ve ignored it 😡

WhiffOfBath · 07/01/2019 20:55

PMSL at this thread.

Sorry to drip-feed, but I also have a 17 yo son, in addition to a be-scarved XH. Said son wants me to buy him a new dressing gown. Not a chance, matey, because it will be brought out on Occasions of Illness.

Same DS woke up this morning (astonishingly), and complained about a pain in his back. I suggested it might not be terminal. He thought I was unsympathetic.

Sorry, should have said it was the 'willy cuddles' that had me PMSL. Grin Grin Grin Grin.

Love it.

I broke up with a guy before Xmas and can I be honest - this behaviour was partly why

The first night I slept in a bed with him he snored but had been drinking so I let it go. But after more nights of him snoring I said “look you really snore very badly and I can’t sleep you need to sort it out”.

He did not believe me about this. He decided it was due to ‘a blocked sinus’ and then spent the next month blowing the nose constantly clearing the throat, doing the sickly voice and despite me telling him that his snoring came from his throat when he laid on his back, he continued to stick to ‘sinus infection’ but never went to the doctor. Every phone call he would tell me more about his sinus secretions

He also had a really horrible brown fleece dressing gown that looked like a monk robe

Also he wouldn’t record himself snoring just in case he heard a ghost on the recording and got scared Hmm

You have no idea how relieved I am to find this thread. My ex used to do this and I always felt so guilty for being unsympathetic to his 'terrible suffering'. But now I'm vindicated in my suspicions that he was putting it all on for sympathy. I'm not alone!

YoThePussy · 07/01/2019 21:22

PookieDo My DSis had a brown dressing gown when she was in her teens. She shuffled around in it all evening every evening, we called it her monk’s robe.

This thread has reminded me of one of my teachers at school. Always sniffing and had a drip on the end of their nose. They were known as DripSnout by everyone.

PookieDo · 07/01/2019 21:27

My ex (father of DC) doesn’t even like me/talk to me much EXCEPT if he is ill and then he will tell me in depth about his bad back/headache/eye pain. It’s really fucking weird

pineapplebryanbrown · 07/01/2019 21:31

Someone asked me why a very long ago ex college bf and I had split up. I had to think very hard to remember. "Ah yes! He said he had a bad back and would wince when he walked".

Bagadverts · 07/01/2019 21:37

I’ve seen this st work. Can I ask those of you with DS is this a lifelong condition or does it develop at a particular age? If it develops any idea why?

RobinHobb · 07/01/2019 22:25

@Bagadverts
I'm curious to know the answer to this too...

WhiffOfBath · 07/01/2019 22:26

Really good question, @Bagadverts If any consolation, I have absolutely no sympathy with any of my DC (boys or girls alike). They all think I am horrible, but I am quite sure I will know if they are genuinely dying.

Isitsixoclockalready · 07/01/2019 22:42

Bagadverts We have 2 DS who never complain when they have colds. I'm a bloke and I never complain either - just get on with it - some people have to put up with far worse. Not looking for a medal or a round of applause but I don't think all blokes are whingers.

Riverside410 · 07/01/2019 22:44

Have to share this.
Dh has the virus that dd had first, then myself before Christmas. It’s rough and comes with a fever and sore throat that goes on for weeks.
Vaguely sympathetic noises came from him when we had it.
Now he’s got it, but the man version.
Had to laugh when he said ‘I just hope I don’t give you this because I don’t think you’d cope, it’s a really bad virus.’
Hello - I had it while singlehandedly prepping for Christmas and working full time, great to have it confirmed that you didn’t even notice!!!!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 07/01/2019 22:50

Mine always "burns up"and clings on me,waking me in the middle of the night (to "bring my temperature down" 🙄

pineapplebryanbrown · 07/01/2019 22:57

I have 2 DS one is stoic and brushes off illness with nary a word. The other has.....a Dressing Gown of Doom.

I am caring and sympathetic to the stoic one and cold and suspicious of symptoms with the whinger.

CheshireChat · 08/01/2019 11:41

DS (4) is showing great potential at being a Dressing Gown of Doom performer Hmm as you can see him weigh up whether to complain and enjoy being fussed over, but having to risk needing treatment.

Bafflingly, he has a high pain tolerance for a kid and doesn't really complain about that!

QueenofWhisperz · 08/01/2019 11:51

I love this, I can't wait to add to it.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 08/01/2019 13:06

I think my DH is man-fluing wrong. He prefers to vanish off to bed and wants to be left alone when he's ill.
He does have a dressing gown though.

iklboo · 08/01/2019 16:58

I know when DH is feeling ill as the fridge is full of Covent Garden chicken soup and packets of Lemsip fall out of the cupboard.
