To think this is pointless (Primark tills)

I came across this on facebook and although its a good idea in theory I cant help but think its abit pointless, A till specifically for disabled customers. Ive never seen any in my local stores so dont know how many Primarks have it.
But apparently you can also use it if you are pregnant or have a double buggy 🙄 Surely the queues will be just as long then? and surely its a choice to buy a pram so wide it doesnt fit at the other tills?!

Isn’t the counter also lower so someone in a wheelchair can reach it?

MrsDannyRicc · 04/01/2019 14:07

Primark tills are very high. Presumably this one is lower so it can be accessed by people in wheelchairs?

Doesn't sound pointless to me.

SusanWalker · 04/01/2019 14:08

I suppose it depends where it is in the shop. My DS has autism and struggles with the winding queue bit as it's quite claustrophobic. If this was separate with a normal space around it for queuing it would be better for him.

Frenchmom · 04/01/2019 14:08

In France they have priority tills in supermarkets and post offices etc. They are for disabled people and pregnant woman. You can just go to the front of the queue.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 04/01/2019 14:09

Well firstly, isn’t the point that the desk is lower so therefore more accessible for people in wheelchairs.
Secondly, some people have no choice but to use a double buggy, what about those with twins? Confused

PortiaCastis · 04/01/2019 14:09

It's as the sign says for wheelchair users to reach.
Well done primanis

Thesearmsofmine · 04/01/2019 14:10

Its a lower till to make it more accessible for disabled people.

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:10

People with double buggies or pregnant can use it aswell meaning there will still be a queue, apparently its for anyone with a disability so they “dont have to queue.”

OP posts:
500internalerror · 04/01/2019 14:10

The queue bit is very narrow; maybe this till avoid that?

PristineCondition · 04/01/2019 14:10

The turns in the till one can be hard to navigate in a wheelchair too.

Not so pointless to those who need them

Drogosnextwife · 04/01/2019 14:10

Have you seen the snaking walled in "queue" they have now put in Primark all over the place. It's impossible to stand at a till with a double buggy or take a wheelchair to the till and still let people pass you from being to go to the next till or leave the queues. I hope to god they put these in the Primark near me because it's a bloody nightmare going through the tills.

babysharkah · 04/01/2019 14:10

Presumably they won't have to queue for as long.

Thesearmsofmine · 04/01/2019 14:11

There is nothing on that sign to say it is also for double buggies or pregnant women? If you have never seen one how do you know that?

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:11

Secondly, some people have no choice but to use a double buggy, what about those with twins?

prams with one seat behind the other. rather than side by side, its not a disability.

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:12

I've used it, it's brilliant as manoeuvring a wheelchair though the narrow queue area is tricky (and the queues are always very long!). Plus when paying at the tills my chair would block people getting past.

I didn't realise you could use it if you were pregnant. I assumed the wheelchair sign is for wheelchair users and it's simply due to space and logistics of the narrow queueing and till area. Agree a big pram is a choice and not a disability.

Having said that, there has never been anyone else using the wheelchair accessible till when I'm there and I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone with a tandem buggy, crutches etc using it.

(Last time I used it someone complained I got to "jump the queue" though so now I will feel a bit awkward thinking everyone is giving me daggers.)

GunpowderGelatine · 04/01/2019 14:12

I think this is a great thing, the till aisles are so skinny in Primark it's hard to manoeuvre anything round them!

I really don't know why people begrudge parents and women niceties in life though. Is it internalised misogyny? It's a double buggy FFS not a bomb, I find the huffing about people with buggies so boring. I imagine the priority system is like on buses with this - buggy can only be served if no disabled person there (which there won't be 95% of the time)

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:13

I still can't reach the card payment thing though even at these tills. Card payment things (is there a word for them?!) that can't be moved down on a cord are the bane of my life (looking at you Lush, for example...)

PristineCondition · 04/01/2019 14:14

Imagine being so shitty at better access in shops

GunpowderGelatine · 04/01/2019 14:14

prams with one seat behind the other. rather than side by side, its not a disability.

What about people who don't want their kids staring at the back of a seat? Or who don't like these buggies?

SoupDragon · 04/01/2019 14:14

People with double buggies or pregnant can use it aswell meaning there will still be a queue

But far less of a the ordinary one. How many pregnant women or double buggies do you see in Primark? Stop looking for problems where there aren't any.

BollocksIsNoACompleteSentence · 04/01/2019 14:15

It's very different from priority spaces on public transport, IMO. Someone with a tandem buggy paying in front of you at a till would take 10 mins max probably. You don't have to leave the shop and wait an hour for another shop as you can't access it as you would with a bus space being used by a wheelchair.

whatsthepointthen · 04/01/2019 14:15

It was on a facebook group, many of the comments state its also for double buggies and pregnant women, like I said nice idea but should be purely for disabilities because being pregnant or having a double pram isnt a disability.

OP posts:
x2boys · 04/01/2019 14:15

I can see why they need a.till for people with disabilities , but if pregnant women and people with double buggies are able to use it I imagine like everything else people with disabilities will be pushed to the back of the queHmm

SoupDragon · 04/01/2019 14:15

But far less of a the ordinary one.

That should have been "But far less of a queue than at the ordinary one."

MumMumMum1 · 04/01/2019 14:15

For mumsnet we sure do fucking hate making mums life easier don’t we!? Have you seen how narrow the queuing area is in most primarks? But god no don’t let a mum with a double buggy use it ITS NOT A DISABILITY let’s just sit & watch her struggle, knocking everything off the bastard sides & tut woefully at her stupid decision to have more than one child. Sick of it. Fuck off!
