Is anyone looking forward to it? Did anyone who vote leave happy they voted it? Or regretful?

I’m a brittle diabetic. For me it isn’t just the insulin. It’s the pump supplies, the testing strips and the right type of insulin.
It is a battle to stay afloat even with all the right things I need.

StoorieHoose · 03/01/2019 20:33

Hysterical nonsense? Well ain’t you all heart!

Cobblersandhogwash · 03/01/2019 20:33

@themoomoo do you understand how fragile food chain supplies are? And how even the smallest delays can quickly affect supermarkets ability to replenish stocks?

If these posters are right and people are horribly affected by delays in food and medicines, will you recognise the pig's ear for what it is?

PortiaCastis · 03/01/2019 20:33

Cheeky I'm type 1 as well and yes it's pretty scary that supplies of insuln may be held up at our borders but why on earth does the UK only churn out a very small percentage of what's needed.

themoomoo · 03/01/2019 20:34

given that life expectancy without insulin is days
which is why there will not be a shortage. You really think 3 million people will die? really? you don't think this has been prepared for? TM herself has it so thinking in the most selfish terms she's going to make damn sure the supply is fine.
i hope to god you haven't told your children your fears

Cheekysquirrel · 03/01/2019 20:37

Oh what like everything else has been well planned for and prepared for? Confused

No doubts TM will be fine - but I’m not prime minster am I and neither are any of the other t1 and 2 diabetics reliant on insulin. Pretty sure we will be further down the pecking order.

Cheekysquirrel · 03/01/2019 20:39

My lovely and very sensible pharmacist was concerned about it when I spoke with him. I know he probably has no more clue than anyone else but seriously I don’t think it’s just me that’s this worried!

Cheekysquirrel · 03/01/2019 20:40

Sorry prime minister
Not sure what auto correct did then...

StoorieHoose · 03/01/2019 20:41

Yes cos the governments planning is going guns isn’t it - Ferry companies with no ferries or experience and a website with the terms and conditions of a pizza takeaway don’t really make me think that they have done much forward planning

Kolo · 03/01/2019 20:42

@perry, I’m married to a EU national. He’s lived here 15years and we have 2 children. I’m really worried about what’s going to happen to our family. DH doesn’t want to pay £65 and go through the hassle of applying for residency, not to stay in a country that makes it quite clear he’s not really welcome.

themoomoo · 03/01/2019 21:23

DH doesn’t want to pay £65 and go through the hassle of applying for residency
surely it's a hell of a lot more hassle and expense to relocate abroad? £65 is frankly nothing.

BrexitDestruction · 03/01/2019 21:42

It's money that he should not have to pay though, isn't it? He moved here, quite reasonably, not expecting to have those rights forcibly stripped from him without his consent. Fucking scandalous.

Justanotherlurker · 03/01/2019 21:47

Fear over a secure supply of insulin is a real concern with frightening consequences. Diabetes is a serious illness. I wouldn't laugh.

Daily mail headline alert!!, a major importer of insulin publicly came out months ago saying this wasn't an issue even in a shit show of no deal.

Maybe you are just reading partisan headlines and not applying your apparent intellectual knowledge with being a remainer.

I mean fridges, ferries is a new grounds of argument, but there is a reason why insulin has been silently dropped in by the pro remain media

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 21:53

Insulin provision is not something I know a lot about that's why I asked for links and references. I wouldn't laugh about it and I certainly wouldn't be flippant.

However, as I said before if you can provide links that reassure people that would be good. And like most remainers I would be thrilled if this turns out to be a non issue.

Not everything is about point scoring.

themoomoo · 03/01/2019 21:56

so, brexitdestruction what's the plan? pay the equivalent of lunch out for the two of you and fill in a form, or sell your house, buy another house, find a job, find a school, tell the kids they're leaving their home, and all move to where?
let me guess what it'll be...

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 21:58

We all want to be wrong about all of it, particularly life saving medicine. If the worst thing that happens is that I look like a prat, I'll take that's with open arms.

I hate the fecking Guardian but this is a bloody ghastly story too. I'm old. I remember stuff. This isn't a fecking joke.

I will put my house on you being a labour supporter wanting the rich to pay more taxes, and yet you complain about paying £65 that on a basic level is a one off payment.

colouringinpro · 03/01/2019 22:03

I'm worried not just because of the headlines (NHS collapses under high drugs costs as USA ramps up prices etc etc) .

But because of the scores of companies inc pharmaceuticals that have been forced to sign non disclosure agreements. So we basically have no idea how shocking a no-deal Brexit will be.

Justanotherlurker · 03/01/2019 22:14

@bellinisurge

Looks like you play the game of divide and conquer with the link you provided.

Replace irish with mulsim and you will no doubt be falling over yourself.

lljkk · 03/01/2019 22:17

Recent Daily Mail comments on insulin & Brexit, but none from an actual manufacturer. Weird.

18 Dec 2018: "... timely imports of perishable substances could be hindered by increased customs checks at British borders. Ministers are drawing up plans to fly in vital drugs and give priority to lorries carrying medical supplies at gridlocked ports."

Sept2018: NovoNordisk is planning to maintain a 4m stockpile of insulin.

23 Aug 2018... it emerged that a factory in Wrexham produces insulin, and drugs firms that manufacture it in France and Denmark reassured diabetics contingency plans will ensure Britain will not run low.

27 Jul 2018 "Millions of patients - including the diabetic Theresa May - could be hit by shortages of drugs like insulin in a no deal Brexit"

Justanotherlurker · 03/01/2019 22:17

I'm worried not just because of the headlines (NHS collapses under high drugs costs as USA ramps up prices etc etc) .

It's the leavers who are thick because they didn't do research beyond the headlines!!!!

PortiaCastis · 03/01/2019 22:27

This from novo-nordisk makers and suppliers of insulin

"You really think 3 million people will die? really? you don't think this has been prepared for?"

Yes, I understand they've been preparing for some time. They're planning to reuse old graves, to identify new mass burial sites and the NHS has invested in refrigeration.
Don't worry: there won't be bodies left rotting on the streets.

JustABetterPlayer · 03/01/2019 23:44

Three million dead, 2 generations to recover economically to a point that has already been exceeded, chlorinated chicken apocalypse and many more. For allegedly educated people there’s a whole lot of stupid going on in this thread.

Lweji · 04/01/2019 01:10

"I’ve actually written letters to my kids to be opened in the event there’s no insulin and I die"

This wins funniest post in the whole brexit debate. friggin hilarious.
are there really people this overdramatic!!!
Let me guess, you suffer from anxiety....

Just wow!
It takes a special kind of arsehole to write posts like this, regardless of over dramatics, and particularly if the pp has anxiety.
