That I've had numerous private school children aged 15/16 ask me when my 6 week summer holiday starts.. At work?

Am I missing something? Do private school children get enrolled into jobs where they keep their school half terms as a employment contract?

Why DONT I get a 6 week holiday anymore? It's so unfair!

I hate january.

How do you know they're 'private school children'?

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 02/01/2019 22:55
Confused Please don't tell me you call your 15/16 year old patients 'kiddos' - horribly condescending. I think you've gotten the wrong end of the stick if I'm honest.
ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 22:56

@littleme03
Because I'm a local, I know the private school well.

I'm not singling out private school children all, they're all really lovely.. But it has only been about 3 private school children ask me this, that's all. I didn't mean to come across like I was singling them out for being privately educated. Its just different from what I did and wondered if they actually think they'll get half terms in a job :)

Summer break isn’t a half term break OP! Why did you say that? Confused

jessstan2 · 02/01/2019 22:56

Shortandsweet, you may be 96 but look sweet sixteen!

I wonder if you misunderstood or they put the question clumsily (or bit of both) - surely no-one thinks everyone who goes to work has six weeks off in one go. Their parents don't, for a start.

Strawbberrypineapple · 02/01/2019 22:57

Surely their parents work and dont have that amount of time off? Or maybe they do...Hmm

ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 22:58

The majority of them are boarders, so the contact details are the school too.

OP posts:
LavaLampLover · 02/01/2019 22:58

Don't most politicians attend private school? They usually take summer recess.

Which I'm not in favour of, either - overpaid, expenses, tax breaks and then they fuck off over summer to go absolutely nothing for the country.

Where as our teachers are sent home for a few weeks where they have to work hard on marking work, exams, making lesson plans, filling in paperwork.... And they're underpaid with no tax breaks or expenses.

I'm guessing I've taken more out of the OP than was meant though 😂

Hezz · 02/01/2019 22:59

Ok then.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 02/01/2019 23:00

Yes I think you’ve misunderstood too. Or for some strange reason are making this up. It doesn’t make sense.

What did the other two say?

ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 23:00

@whotookthechristmascookie.
Christ alive no! It was sarcasm for the post, I've never used the work kiddo out loud unless it's my sister trying to outsmart me and failing Grin

Hysterical.
Laughing out loud at this thread!

imbluedabedeba · 02/01/2019 23:01

Are you sure you're not misinterpreting their questions and they want an appointment in the summer holidays so they can attend during the day? I am a teacher and kind of expect my dentist to know the local school holidays if I don't have my diary

TSSDNCOP · 02/01/2019 23:02

I do not believe this to be true. I think you have used one child’s misunderstanding and embellished to maximise the effect.

ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 23:03

@ilovemaxibondi. Almost the same thing they only ask when our summer holidays are, the conversation doesn't really go any further, I never know what to say other than we don't have them.

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 02/01/2019 23:04

Are you new in the job OP?

Holidayshopping · 02/01/2019 23:04

Are you really a dentist?!

ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 23:04

I probably have misinterpreted, but I'd been mulling it over in my head thinking surely they don't think that Blush

OP posts:
ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 23:05

@holidayshopping.
No I work in one, I am not a dentist though. Clearly not academic enough to do the 5 years at uni Blush

OP posts:
ShortandSweet96 · 02/01/2019 23:06

@ilovemaxibondi.
Relatively new. Is that obvious?:(

OP posts:
Brickswithstones · 02/01/2019 23:06

Your OP says 'numerous private school children ' and then later you said 3 children asked you.

As another poster said, what does the summer holiday have to do with half term breaks?

Is this an attempt to bash private school students, that has failed?

Doesn't make sense, sorry.

Seeingadistance · 02/01/2019 23:06

If they're boarders then they probably won't be in your town over the summer though. I think you and your patients are simply talking at cross purposes.

myrtleWilson · 02/01/2019 23:06

So numerous equals 3 Hmm

Holidayshopping · 02/01/2019 23:07

Ok.

This.

TSSDNCOP · 02/01/2019 23:07

Perhaps they thought you were a nice person and a good dentist, so wanted to make an appointment with you at a time in the summer when you weren’t on your work holiday.

Instead you thought they were stupid.
