To ask what the age gap is between your first and second child...

Just that really .. I have a 5 year old and been trying for another baby for a while now. But I'm abit worried about the age gap now if I get pregnant say this year ? Is it a big gap ? I dunno. There's two years between all my brothers and sisters.

Yanbu to ask.

headstone · 01/01/2019 18:36

Almost 7 years and it’s a great age gap imo.

EncroachingLoaf · 01/01/2019 18:37

4 years... I had a hideous first birth and it took a long time to feel ready for the next one.

Of course many people have smaller gaps but I don't think 5 years is a particularly massive one.

TheHobbitMum · 01/01/2019 18:37

For me there is just under 10mths, not quite what you wanted to hear I expect Grin

If you genuinely want another child then don't worry about the age gap. There are always pros/cons to large & small age gaps

birdiewoof · 01/01/2019 18:41

17 months.... then 8 years 10 months between 2nd and 3rd Grin

Jencottage · 01/01/2019 18:41

My first turns 9 in April & second due in May. It will be a challenge, but, my first is delighted to have a little brother soon !

QuarterMileAtATime · 01/01/2019 18:41

17 months. I’m expecting my third and there’ll be an 8-year gap, which I’m very much looking forward to in comparison! Grin

TeenTimesTwo · 01/01/2019 18:43

We have over 5 years age gap, and 6 academic years. It has worked out quite well, the main issue is when we do 'educational' stuff like museums we have needed one adult each.

User10002000 · 01/01/2019 18:43

20 months then 9 years between my second and third.

jayne310 · 01/01/2019 18:44

Those with a big age gap, how are kids together? Do they play together? Interested in each other ? If you don't mind me asking

My first turns one in August and my second is due in July. Don’t worry about the age difference, it’s all about what’s right for you as a family. I was worried that it might take a while and I’m 34 so I wanted to try again ASAP, didn’t expect to get pregnant the first time! Haha.

There’s good points about all different size age gaps. Good luck to you in getting pregnant soon 🙂

honeylulu · 01/01/2019 18:44

Nearly 10 years... not planned like that. Secondary infertility sucks.

It's been great though, they are surprisingly close and love/ hate each other as much as "normal" siblings.

Janedoughnut · 01/01/2019 18:44

My neighbours two children have the same gap between them as you would have if you got pregnant this year and the older one (boy) dotes on his little sister and is very protective of her. I see them go past my house with him holding her hand.

TheHumanSatsuma · 01/01/2019 18:45

4 years, not through choice. It seems to have worked out ok.

EdinaMonsoon · 01/01/2019 18:45

4 years due to multiple miscarriages. It isn’t what I would have chosen initially but actually I think it is the best age gap. I got to enjoy both of their baby years without juggling too much & now they are teens (14 & 18) it’s a lovely dynamic.

AutoFilled · 01/01/2019 18:47

3 years and still need the one parents each if we do ‘educational’ stuff. The 4 yo can’t read and do understand museums, or even horrible histories. They don’t go to the same activities. As long as you are willing to spend time with each one separately you will be fine.

Yulebealrite · 01/01/2019 18:47

23 months

moleeye · 01/01/2019 18:48

Will be 4.5 year gap, due in March. My little girl is so excited to be a big sister. It's all she talks about

Echo pp, secondary infertility is awful. 2.5 years of trying and a failed round of IVF when I got a complete shock that I was pregnant in July

formerbabe · 01/01/2019 18:49

2.5 years between my two.

There's five years between me and my sister though and it's not an issue at all..it never felt like a big gap.

jamimmi · 01/01/2019 18:49

4year 3 months. Fab gap and means baby gets lots of 1 to 1 as oldest is at school. Now 15 and 11 and really close boy n girl.

Nonomore3 · 01/01/2019 18:49

@TheHobbitMum @TheHobbitMum

forgive my stupidity did you get pregnant within 1/2 months of having your first baby?

Can I ask, did you breastfeed?
My little one is older but I’m breastfeeding and I don’t think it would be possible to conceive right now..

Squigglypig · 01/01/2019 18:50

7 years and they are lovely with each other. The older one dotes on her baby brother and he lights up when he sees her. She says she can't remember life before him.

BikeRunSki · 01/01/2019 18:50

3 yrs 6 weeks
They squabble constantly

The gaps between my siblings are
Child 1 - 2y 11m - Child 2 - 5y 8m - Child 3 - 3y 9m - Child 4

I’m Child 3, I get on by far the best with my brother who is 5y8m older than me.

Ilikeviognier · 01/01/2019 18:51

16 months.😳

It was a bit unexpected after ivf for ds1 - I was expecting it to take years to get pregnant again, if indeed it was even possible.... instead I got a bfp immediately after my first post partum period....

The first year with both was very tough tbh. That said, I’m hoping as they get older we’ll reap the benefits!

I suspect there are pros and cons of every age gap!

IdblowJonSnow · 01/01/2019 18:52

4 years which was great in early days but harder now the older one is getting pretty grown up. It is what it is... there are many more factors to ease/them getting along or not other than age.
