Just that really .. I have a 5 year old and been trying for another baby for a while now. But I'm abit worried about the age gap now if I get pregnant say this year ? Is it a big gap ? I dunno. There's two years between all my brothers and sisters.

It will be 3years 1 month (give or take a week). Accidental 2nd pregnancy after a hideous first birth and PND. Cannot believe I'll have a second in 4 weeks Shock

KenDoddsDadsDogIsDead · 01/01/2019 19:55

16 months between 1st and 2nd..4 and a half years between 2nd and 3rd. They are all great mates and very close

yesmelord · 01/01/2019 20:19

@Nonomore3 it's a myth that you can't get pregnant while breast feeding.

Montsti · 01/01/2019 20:27

2 years 7 months between dc1 & dc2...then 2 years 5 months between dc 2 & dc3 and 2 years 11 months between dc3 & dc4..

BollocksToBrexit · 01/01/2019 20:29

20 years between mine. Waited until the first one moved out.

gluteustothemaximus · 01/01/2019 20:31

8 years between 1st and 2nd.

6 years between 2nd and 3rd.

Down to HG and SPD in pregnancies.

No more! 3 is plenty Grin

PumpkinKitty82 · 01/01/2019 20:33

9 years between my two and no issues .
My ds is very good with his little sis

3boysandabump · 01/01/2019 20:33

13 months between the first two then 3.5 years between 2&3 then 3.5 years between 3&4

KindergartenKop · 01/01/2019 20:33

My sil was 6.5 when dh was born. They get on much better than my brother and I who have a 3 year age gap. It actually all depends on their personalities and interests. Obviously a 3 and 6 year old will have more in common than a 3 and 10 year old but the relationship goes beyond childhood and the relationship then depends on the personalities.

lilmishap · 01/01/2019 20:38

13 years

Nonomore3 · 01/01/2019 21:13

@yesmelord
Thank you. My understanding is that if you are breastfeeding and not menstruating then your chances of getting pregnant are at about 1% - which is less than if you were using condoms.
But of course, you never know when your menstruation will return so it’s always a gamble..

mindutopia · 01/01/2019 21:18

5 years between my two and it’s wonderful. I don’t honestly know how people do smaller age gaps. My older one is able to be fairly independent and is really helpful and has her own life now at school, so baby and had lots of one on one time from the start. I truly can’t think of any negatives.

Nonomore3 · 01/01/2019 21:23

@TheHobbitMum wow. Hats off to you! I could not even imagine being intimate let alone finding the energy to be pregnant and all the rest!
Although I keep waiting to get the burst of energy and arise from my sleep deprived state.. I might be waiting a long time I fear

PhaLANge · 01/01/2019 21:28

BollocksToBrexit has the right idea! Wait until the first moves out Grin

Wow lovely comments and so many different views it's great. I'm not so much worried as my daughter is very caring and loves baby's and she shares well and what not, I think I'm more worried about having spent 5 years with my daughter alone then having another baby will she feel pushed out ? Obviously I will not push her out on purpose. But me and my daughter are very close and I don't want her to think I'm spending more time with the baby. If that makes sense. Obviously I will have time for her aswell but with a baby they need more seeing to with nappy changes and feeds and stuff so it would look like I'm doing more with baby. Does that sound stupid ? I know I haven't got a baby yet but just want to see others experience on it just to get my head around it abit more. Thanks everyone x

I have 3 DS's each 3 years 9 months apart... Not even planned the gap

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 01/01/2019 21:53

5 years between 1st and 2nd. It's a great age gap. 2 years between 2nd and 3rd, far more difficult. 7 years between 1st and 3rd, brilliant gap. They all get along.

YeOldeTrout · 01/01/2019 21:55

23m. I don't do planned pregnancies. Eldest adored little sis.

3out · 01/01/2019 21:57

Our 9 year old asks me nearly every day when I’m going to have another baby, he’s desperate for another sibling! There was a small gap between our kids, so none of them really remember life without siblings.

MaverickSnoopy · 01/01/2019 22:10

4.5 years between 1 & 2. Then 2.3 years between 2 & 3, so nearly 7 years between 1 & 3.

When DC2 was born, DC1 was a great older sibling, although she struggled to understand that my time was diluted somewhat. Now they both get on so well about 80% of the time and the older one really dotes on her subling. When DC3 was born, DC1 was amazing. Being older she just wants to join in with playing mummy and help out. She wants cuddles all the time and pulls faces.

If anything a larger gap has been easier. I have a sibling who is 6 years younger than me. We got on until I was about 10 and then we fought relentlessly until I was about 21. Then we got on and then once I hit my 30s we fell out over grown up issues (eg politics), but we still love each other and try not to discuss our conflicting views.

There is no right or wrong here.

LiquoricePickle · 02/01/2019 00:02

2 years. There are 7 years between my sister and I and we're really close.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 02/01/2019 00:08

16 months between 1 and 2. 12.5 years between 2 and 3. There’ll be 23 months between 3 and 4.
