I’ve done something incredibly stupid

Massivemistake19 · 01/01/2019 15:50

I have name changed for this- partly because I am so ashamed.
In a moment of absolute madness at the age of 45, I tried a line of coke at a New Years party. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking as I have never done anything like it in my life before.
Now I feel devastated and so ashamed of myself - I have 2 kids and the thought that i could be so selfish has made me cry all day.

Aibu to ask for help and advise moving on from this- I feel so remorseful today and am also worried that I might have damaged my health.
I truly feel devastated by my idiocy

Not much harm done but you need to distance yourself from people who do this regularly and supplied you. Also moderate your alcohol intake

BerylStreep · 01/01/2019 16:03

Who gave it to you? Do you want to keep associating with them?

NotANotMan · 01/01/2019 16:05

You're on a comedown, it's a known effect of nasty drugs.
Cocaine is a vile drug not only for the way it makes people feel and behave but also because it's soaked in the blood of poor South American folks.
Still, no harm done by you having one line. Just don't do it again! Try MDMA if you want to have a relatively safe and guilt free chemically induced good time in future Grin

Sugarformyhoney · 01/01/2019 16:05

Chill. It’s really not the end of the world

User758172 · 01/01/2019 16:06

Calm down! It’s a line of coke - it’s not the end of the world. It’s not a big deal. Put it behind you and forget about it. No one’s harmed - you’re not harmed. You’re fine.

Massivemistake19 · 01/01/2019 16:07

@ladyla on my way home & very anxious & panicky. All I want is bed and Netflix

@beryl it was someone at a party - friend of a friend. I won’t be doing it again

grandmistressflashette · 01/01/2019 16:09

Try to stop worrying about it and let it go (I know it's easier said than done, especially the day after a night spent drinking - I'm always very anxious after I've been drinking). It certainly doesn't sound like you'll be trying it again any time soon.

NotANotMan · 01/01/2019 16:09

It's the coke and the alcohol making you panicky

Massivemistake19 · 01/01/2019 16:12

@grandmistress I suffer quite bad anxiety anyway which makes what I did even stupider

Not a massive mistake at all- just getting carried away. Were you escaping the day to day life with kids, work etc? Please don’t feel bad. I’ve never done coke but sonetimes need to escape from
How hard and mundane life can be. My choice is 20-40 cigs and I feel just as guilty. In that I’m letting my kids and husband down but In the big scheme of things it’s an occasional one-off of doing something frowned upon by society. Does that kind of make sense?

CrimpBrunette · 01/01/2019 16:13

My friend died at 26 after taking MDMA.

Missingstreetlife · 01/01/2019 16:13

Just another kind of hangover, plenty of fluid and something sweet or full of carbs and fat. Coke and bacon sandwich, tea and pizza. Drink water. You will be fine.

NotANotMan · 01/01/2019 16:14

I did say relatively
I don't touch class As myself

jessstan2 · 01/01/2019 16:14

Oh you poor thing, bless you. It was a one off, no harm done. Stop beating yourself up.

SpikyHedgehogg · 01/01/2019 16:14

Which aspect in particular makes you feel bad?

Goodmum1234 · 01/01/2019 16:14

I suffer depression and anxiety too

SydneyFrexkle · 01/01/2019 16:14

Oh my goodness. Chill. One kind of Coke is nothing.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 01/01/2019 16:15

What's done is done. As PP's said, go home, drink lots of water (and tea if you like it) and you'll feel better later.

We all do daft things occasionally and you don't have to repeat them.

I'm sitting with a mild headache drinking tea (it's earlier in the USA) and hoping I wasn't too silly at a friend's party last night! I was merry, not drunk, but probably bored the pants off a few people as I tend to rattle on when I'm tipsy. Grin

Can't do much about it now if I did!

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 01/01/2019 16:16

People fuck up at times and this was just one of your moments. You know now that you'll never do it again and there's a lesson there. Let it go and don't beat yourself up over something relatively minor.

Butcowsdontgetmarried · 01/01/2019 16:16

It’s probably not even the coke making you feel shit, it’s the shame combined with beer fear and impending doom.
You need to focus on staying well so you can resume normal service, just like you were the day before last. A big night of booze will take 2 days to get over IME. Do the minimum life admin stuff- sod washing up or tidying- order takeaway if you can afford it, stuff healthy eating just curl up, with the kids if you like, watch cheesy films, eat cheese or Maltese’s or anything malty, bananas or chocolate anything with potassium. Stay hydrated and cosy and remember you’ve done one thing once. This doesn’t change who you are. You won’t do it again.

Massivemistake19 · 01/01/2019 16:17

@spiky I feel guilty about it because of my kids. I am quite a sensible person normally- I don’t drink loads really and am quite controlled. I feel like I lost control and feel awful today

op it was one line please keep things in perspective this really is an over reaction

ButtMuncher · 01/01/2019 16:20

Try not to beat yourself up too much. You made a mistake and one you're not likely to repeat again. I've done coke in my 20s only very rarely and the fear and anxiety you get the next day is very common. Yes it's a class A - but unless you have an inclination to take it again (I'm guessing not) then try to be kinder to yourself.

TornFromTheInside · 01/01/2019 16:21

We all do something whacky sometimes. Nobody's immune.
You're human.
You appreciate the gravity of it, you tried it, the amazing mystery isn't so amazing, no need to do it again.

Good people do daft things. It doesn't make them bad.

whatsthestory123 · 01/01/2019 16:22

also you said you had alot to drink,i think thats more damaging than a line of coke

frequent drinking imo is much worse than the odd line

just chalk down to experience
