To cut my lovely long hair?

shouldicutmyhair · 30/12/2018 13:08

Attaching two pictures none of which are of my hair. However the first one is very similar to my hair the second is to how I think I want it cut.
Nearly everyone I ask thinks I'm mad. I do love my hair it definitely one of my best features. But I have had the same look now for over 16 years. I really fancy a change.

Cut it. It'll grow back! Smile

Dimsumlosesum · 30/12/2018 13:10

I have to leave mine long to counteract my large head and frame. I'd love shorter hair though.

Babymamamama · 30/12/2018 13:11

Cut it... It will look great and in time will grow back if you so wish.

domton · 30/12/2018 13:11

Do it. It will grow if you don't like it.

Everyone said I was mad to go grey and stop dying it when i was 37 and totally grey. Now, all good...as a bonus I'm bang on trend for the first time ever :) I teach, and the kids thought I was 'well cool'. Grin

How quickly does it grow with you? 16 years is a long time, I'd definitely go with a change.

Dahlietta · 30/12/2018 13:14

If you have lovely hair, that will still be apparent with the second haircut. It's not like you're thinking about a buzzcut! I would do it - as others have said, it's not like it won't grow back if it doesn't look as nice. Tell 'everyone' they can grow their own hair really long if they like it so much Wink

junecat · 30/12/2018 13:16

I've just had mine done very much like your second pic. It had been all one length to the middle of my back before and I was desperate for a change. I'm so glad I did it x

Twinningsloverbutnotanymore · 30/12/2018 13:17

You'll cry. Believe me you will, but once you see what it's like its actually rather refreshing having short hair. Just make sure your face shape suits it, talk everything out with the hairdresser and ask if they can cut it in stages. That way it's not a massive shock!
I done it a few years back and I loved my Bob, takes two mins to dry!!

lemoncurdd · 30/12/2018 13:21

Cut it. Long hair is so aging.

CoughLaughFart · 30/12/2018 13:23

It’s not like you’d be going dramatically short. I’d go for it - if you hate it, you can let it grow for a while and it will look similar to your current style, even if it’s not quite as long.

darlingShelby · 30/12/2018 13:24

lemon
Don’t be a lemon 🍋
That is absolutely not true!

boymum9 · 30/12/2018 13:24

I did exactly what you're wanting a few months ago and I really regret it!! But it will grow, so I suppose you may as well try and worst comes to worst it'll grow back!

GemmeFatale · 30/12/2018 13:25

Cut it. If you hate it hair grows

Terribletwos84 · 30/12/2018 13:25

I had eight inches cut off yesterday and a fringe added. Feel so much lighter and younger. Took two minutes to deal with it this morning. Little shorter than has ever been before but so worth it! Have had long hair the past ten years so was a shock when i woke this morning

Scoleah · 30/12/2018 13:26

I've just had mine done
Before and after similar to the Pics.
I got so bored of my Long hair, it knotted too easily and made me Look drab.

I've had it cut and I love it! Feels so Light and so quick to dry and style!
Go for it OP!

Jitters22 · 30/12/2018 13:27

I'm another one who had long her for all of my life and about three years ago got it cut to shoulder length.

It is so much more manageable now, easier to wash, dry, style and I much prefer it. Also the regular cutting to keep it at the shorter length means it looks/feels to be in much better condition - has more body and feels thicker.

It's still long - just not as long. All you are doing is lopping off a few inches, and as others have said - it will soon grow back if you don't like it.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 30/12/2018 13:27

It depends on why you want to cut it? IMO the first photo is far nicer than the second. If I had the hair in the first, no way would I trade it for the second. On the other hand if your hair is just the same length as the first but in bad condition and unmanageable then yes, cut it.

Lweji · 30/12/2018 13:28

I alternate between long hair (although not as long as yours ever) and just slightly longer than a bob.
You can then enjoy all the different lengths until it grows back.
Your hair can still look great shorted and actually frame your face better.
Do it.

BlancheM · 30/12/2018 13:48

I would, it's more up to date

stopgap · 30/12/2018 14:00

If I had lovely thick hair, I wouldn’t cut it. Long hair can look amazing at any age if the hair is healthy.

chipsandgin · 30/12/2018 14:02

I alternate between long and lob - it'll grow back, go for it!

Whisky2014 · 30/12/2018 14:05

Hmm I always think people urge others to cut their hair because they are jealous of people with nice long hair.
That's 2nd pic is like Caroline flacks hair. it's a modern style. I say dont cut it!

StarryFleck · 30/12/2018 14:06

Do it! I did and my hair feels thicker, bouncier, is more manageable and easier to style plus it looks and feels healthier.

katseyes7 · 30/12/2018 14:07

l had 12" cut off mine last year. lt was down to my waist and l couldn't wait to get it cut. lt felt so much nicer and lighter, and yes, it did grow again!
As a bonus, my friend and her mum said it took years off me.
And you can always donate your 'cut off' to the Princess Trust.

Birdsgottafly · 30/12/2018 14:07

I had the same cut. My hair has grown back in around six/seven months.

I'm getting cut again in the spring.

It's nice to have a change. What made me grow it, is I like Up-do's, for going out, over Winter. Your hairs done in the morning and you don't have to worry about it.

Over Summer it's easier to have hair out.

PipGoesPop · 30/12/2018 14:08

Do it!
