To cut my lovely long hair?

shouldicutmyhair · 30/12/2018 13:08

Attaching two pictures none of which are of my hair. However the first one is very similar to my hair the second is to how I think I want it cut.
Nearly everyone I ask thinks I'm mad. I do love my hair it definitely one of my best features. But I have had the same look now for over 16 years. I really fancy a change.

CoughLaughFart But everyone on MN is!!

Yes, but they’ll never clap eyes on the OP. Surely the kind of people who’d be jealous would be jealous of people they know having beautiful long hair, not people they’ve never even seen.

Thanks everyone! Definitely a lot more people in favour of getting it cut. I am pretty sure I will do it. Like a lot of people said it does grow back. I have had afew colour changes over the years so don't feel a colour change would be enough. It is very thick and is very similar to the first picture when I can be bothered to spend an hour styling it.
Will definitely look into how to donate it if I do. Does anyone know if it matters that it has colour in it?

Yeah, they definitely prefer virgin hair - especially in your case I think - as you're taking only a few inches off - it would have to go in with other hair, if they can use it at all.

But Google is your friend here.

Coloured is fine for donations. Just make sure you put the donation in a plaited pigtail.

Nothing ages a 30 to 40 something woman more than short hair.

Don't do it unless you want that 'headmistress' look.

Lithops · 31/12/2018 08:56

Oh lord, R2D2, did you have to come on with that misogynistic nonsense? Plus if you actually look at the pictures, the OP doesn’t want short hair, just shorter hair than her very long hair. Don’t worry, her haircut won’t spoil the world’s prettiness too much.

Moominfan · 31/12/2018 08:59

Worst case scenario you don't like it and have to wait for it to grow back

Lweji · 31/12/2018 09:01

People of all ages have hair of all sorts of lengths. Waist length is very teenagery and not particularly flattering to any grown woman, IMO. Not to mention the care required.
My usual limit is when the inner back starts to get tangled by itself.

The OP is looking at cutting it at/below the shoulders, which is a decent length and it will grow back quickly if it doesn't feel as good.

loveskaka · 31/12/2018 09:03

Really depends, think we need to see a pic of u to really tell x

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/12/2018 09:05

If your hair is as nice as those photos I wouldn't.

70sbaubles · 31/12/2018 09:07

Dont. Long hair is more feminine and pretty. Short hair is ageing.

mrsnec · 31/12/2018 09:09

I did that back in October. It hasn't grown much since then. I like it and thought I'd style it properly and wear it down more but the reality is I end up wearing it up exactly as I did before but it is still long and it's lighter and healthier and I'm really glad I did it. I'm 40 by the way and I did it because my dc were about to have their first haircuts and I went first to show them what to expect.

Lweji · 31/12/2018 09:10

The OP won't cut it short!!!!!!!!!!

And
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lweji · 31/12/2018 09:11

Not that short is ageing by itself. It can look old lady or great, depending on the cut and the person.

Lweji · 31/12/2018 09:12

Also, the second photo is how the OP WANTS IT.

Are some people still asleep?

lucky88 · 31/12/2018 09:45

Go for it!
After 16 yrs it's time for a change Smile.
Hair will grow back (also can just by extensions if you hate it)

Aeroflotgirl · 31/12/2018 09:47

Go for it, hair grows, long hair is so samey, everybody seems to have it.
