Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please! Grin

Very foolishly took some laxative medicine as cold remedies give me constipation. Result achieved but have completely redecorated my bathroom and toilet.

Just remembered Olbas bath, cracking stuff, lay in a hot bath and get completely covered in Olbas oil smell. Not easy to come by so suspect is another thing I like that has been discontinued.

Maelstrop · 03/01/2019 10:13

Lemsip=caffeine and paracetamol, so easier and cheaper to drink tea and take the tablets.

I've had 2 days of being light headed, coughing so hard I'm nearly sick, unable to do a h y thing but lie down and groan. Couldn't eat so great start to the diet! Feeling lots better today, I'm never ill and this wiped me.

lubeybooby · 03/01/2019 15:27

oh fucking christ where the hell did this come from? I was a tiny bit bunged up nose wise last night but today it's gone mad. shivers, aches, fever, no appetite, nose to rival a river. No cough yet but my asthma is teetering on the brink so keeping an eye on that. I haven't felt so ill in at least ten years

to whoever gave me this I wish on you a next life as piers morgans loo seat, you absolute thunderwanking shitferret

Day 18 and feel really poorly, loads of sinus pain, yellow thick mucus and pain all over my body/fatigue.

I’m supposed to be back at work officially on Monday and don’t know how I can manage. I went for a 30 minute walk on New Years Day and ended up stuck in a petrol pump cafe crying in pain and feeling awful. The past few days have been spent on the couch or in bed. I’ve only left the house 3 times since the 18th and haven’t seen anyone except my parents. Honestly don’t know what to do. I’ve got a lot of important commitments coming up. How do you get rid of this thing?!

ginyogarepeat · 03/01/2019 17:09

Have you seen a doctor @ShadyLady53 ? If it's going on that long with no improvement it might be an infection that requires antibiotics.

lubeybooby · 03/01/2019 18:22

I'd see a doctor now too just to check, maybe they can at least provide stronger painkillers

ShadyLady53 · 03/01/2019 18:24

@ginyogarepeat thanks, I saw the Nurse Practitioner on the 23rd December (Peritonsillar abscess burst the previous night) and she said that there were no signs of a bacterial infection so didn’t prescribe antibiotics. The stuff I’m coughing up has lessened and is clear but the stuff coming out my nose is now yellow, it was clear until two days ago. If I feel bad again tomorrow, I’ll try and get a Dr’s appointment but the likliehood will be a two or three week wait!

TeamDixon · 03/01/2019 19:05

I've had a headache for 24 hours now - nothing else! It's in the post though isn't it?

pineapplebryanbrown · 03/01/2019 20:49

Shady i think you're badly ill. Quinsy is serious and with you being neutropenic surely your GP would see you urgently. Can you have ABs with neutropenia?

Returned to PharmaLady a couple of days ago & scored a bottle of Difflam sore throat rinse/gargle. TY pps for recommending this one, it really does work.

Cough so harsh that I have lost my lunch a few times in the past few days. Think I am now 14days plus with this Lurgy.

For someone so ancient, I have really been ill for so long & certainly not with such throat & ear pain. I have taken more paracetamol in the past 14 days than I have in the past 14 years. A modest exaggeration but you get the point.

Now cruising at two over-the-counter Co-codamol every four hours & Difflam gargle when it hurts. This is where I will stay until I get better or my liver packs up.

Huge sympathies & cuddles to our Sick Sisters (& Bros) who have to keep the show on the road for family & work.

UniversalAunt · 03/01/2019 20:59

I have RAREly been so ill.
FFS I know I am REALly ill.
effin’ autofill.

UniversalAunt · 03/01/2019 21:07

Shady, do you have a temperature?

One of the odd things about this virus is that I am really unwell, with horrible throat & ear pain due to inflammation, choking up buckets of clear mucus & yet my body temperature has been reasonably normal.

If you have heavily coloured mucus & feeling unwell with a raised body temperature then you may well have an infection. Get thee to a GP or NHS day clinic to be checked over as pps have said as you may well be in of anti-biotics.
Infected sinuses left untreated can drag you down for aaaages, so well worth sorting out promptly with sinus washes & meds if required.

YoThePussy · 03/01/2019 21:12

Read last year that the stuff we are all hacking up is dead white blood cells. Would like to know why mine vary between green, yellow and grey.

ZaraSpellman · 03/01/2019 21:13

So I went to the doctor's and apparently I've had 2 viruses and should expect to feel ill for another weekHmm

PavlovianLunge · 03/01/2019 21:15

Sign me up. Finally got the house to ourselves after a Very Long Time, and bam... rasping cough, headache, light-headed, and prickly skin. Oh and terrible wind with a touch of reflux. I fell asleep watching the Chase earlier, but to be fair, that’s probably the best way to get through it.

I’ve been happier.

ShadyLady53 · 03/01/2019 21:25

Thanks everyone, just battled the Christmas tree away and my whole body was shaking - can’t believe I’m 34 and this bloody weak. Will call up GP first thing if no improvement. Starting to worry that the back pain and rib pain is not muscular from the cough but that it could be my lungs and I could have pneumonia. I’ve had it before but the pain was in my chest.

@UniversalAunt no high temp, low on occasion. I think we’ve got the exact same thing from what you’ve described. I too have taken more painkillers (paracetamol and ibruprofen) in the past two weeks than the rest of my life combined! Also more otc in general. I usually suffer on but have needed everything I could get. I’ve had EBV, suspected swine flu, pneumonia and this is the worst I’ve felt that I can remember. It’s the sheer range of symptoms and the duration.

@thigh My GP is generally quite rubbish and always forgets about the neutropenia! I haven’t had antibiotics in 2 years and we do try and avoid them in case I become resistant. In the past I have left it too long hence the Pneumonia in my first year of university. I was really hoping to avoid them but starting to worry I’ve been too blasé. Anyway I’ve tried every OTC and natural remedy there is now so maybe I need some help 😩.

Thanks for the support everyone. Hope we are all soon on the mend!

bigfluffy · 03/01/2019 21:44

Shadylady it sounds like we have the same thing. I went to urgent care on day 12 as I was getting breathless just walking round the house. Sinuses felt like concrete, thick yellow stuff coming out of them. I've never felt so unwell in my life. The GP gave me amoxicillin for the sinusitis and it literally cleared up overnight. I'm still recovering another week later but the difference in how I felt was remarkable. Really, if you are not coping with over the counter, go and ask for some further medical advice.

pearlypick · 03/01/2019 21:52

Do people know if this lurgy all over the country?Shock. I'm near the South coast. I always pick up these awful things at xmas, and have a bad underlying condition, so want to try and avoid it, if poss!

It sounds awful Xmas Sad.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/01/2019 21:56

Gah, you're all wusses. I have a cough and free-streaming snot, too, yet still managed my eight-hour shift of walking up and down hills (coughing into bushes and getting through half a packet of serviettes)

That's my best tip BTW. Serviettes instead of tissues. They are bigger and softer.

tapdancingmum · 03/01/2019 23:18

Got to the Dr's yesterday and I have a double ear and throat infection. She said it was probably because I never got rid of the original cold fully back at the beginning of December and it's culminated in this. One nasal spray and 4 tablets a day and I hope it goes

tapdancingmum · 03/01/2019 23:25

Oh, and she gave me a tip of gargling with soluble paracetamol as it gets to where it's needed quicker. I may give it a go but I gag every time I try to gargle so fear it may not end well!

pineapplebryanbrown · 04/01/2019 02:03

Sigh.......and on it drags. I have ceased to be a human, i am MUCASGIRL and my superpowers are violent sneezing and never ending snot production.

My costume has evolved from dressing gown to thick, long, hooded cardigan. The only person who will come near me is my best dog. I'll be forced to wear a bell soon.

MarcieBluebell · 04/01/2019 02:24

The GP gave me amoxicillin for the sinusitis and it literally cleared up overnight.

My gp refuses to give me antibiotics. Arr so jelous of people who have them. Mine started with terrible sinnitus and then a sore throat and chest infection. Then clogged ears and have dizziness and sickness. Feel so low. It all started in June!!!!!

They refuse to say I have an infection even though I've been bed bound for months! Feeling really fed up.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/01/2019 08:17

I’m on antibiotics for mine now, it was in my chest and is suspected pneumonia now. Day 7 here. Don’t think I’ve ever been ill for this long before.

ShadyLady53 · 04/01/2019 14:25

Day 19 in the WHEN WILL THE LURGY END house. Had a really bad night with sinus and glandular pain and was up for a few hours before falling back asleep until 11am and missing the emergency appointments at the GPS! Luckily they’ve made me another appointment for first thing Sunday morning. If it gets any worse before then, I’ll call 111 and see if I can get an appointment at primary care. Another day on the sofa beckons!

Hope some of you are coming out of the other end of it now!
