Hi everyone

I have lurgy and I feel miserable with it. I'm feeling rubbish and drowning in my own snot. Who else is sick? Remedies please! Grin

Shady it was a few Januarys ago now. The quinsy came on very quickly in the middle of the night on one side only. I couldn't even drink, could only absorb water via my tongue. I bravely drove myself to the ooh walk in centre and presented my throat, could barely open my mouth and couldn't speak very well.

I expected Dr to tut and send me away to lie down for a week or something. He immediately put me in resus on a drip of saline and antibiotics. The steroids in the IV made me puke which of course made me piss myself somewhat.

They advanced on me with a long needle and aspirated the offending abscess on my tonsil. I immediately felt better and escaped with lots of antibiotics. They wanted me to stay in but i didn't need to.

They had to do the needle a few times because it's impossible not to gag! Very horrible!

I keep feeling better then doing things then being wiped out again. Very frustrating!

UniversalAunt the Difflam Spray does work but the Difflam Mouth Rinse was prescribed to me by the nurse at the Walk In Centre after the abscess burst and it’s 10 times better, if you can get hold of the rinse do.

Day 15...I think, and still waking up feeling like a train hit me. Sinuses, ears, glands and head still really sore and want to stay in bed. Going to try a walk today for the first time in God knows how long.

Hope you are all recovering.

I've got my first ever flu this festive season Sad I haven't moved from bed in 3 days other than to use the toilet (I desperately need a shower by this point but am too weak to face it). Thought last night that my fever was going down and I wasn't as achy, even managed to eat a bit, but I've woken up with a higher temp than ever and coughing up lots of phlegm. I'm asthmatic so will consider phoning my GP tomorrow if no better as I don't want it settling in my chest.

Hope everyone's feeling better soon!

TornFromTheInside · 01/01/2019 10:06

Had it for 2 weeks. I cannot believe how much snot can be produced. It's combined with a persistent cough.
I can have a few hours when I think I am starting to see the back of it, then it returns with a vengeance.

Truly fed up of it.

JustDanceAddict · 01/01/2019 10:07

Me! Just a cold:cough but it’s lingering. Had it for about a week and trying to
Keep dosed up as it’s so annoying otherwise. Don’t feel ill with it but just snotty/coughy.

NorthernKnickers · 01/01/2019 10:08

Me! Celebrated NYE with Norovirus...which was very attractive as you can imagine! I shat myself twice 🤦‍♀️ Not my finest moments of 2018 I can honestly say, so here's hoping 2019 is slightly more positive 😂 Get well everyone 👍

ShadyLady53 · 01/01/2019 10:11

@poster thighofrelief101 that sounds like a horrific experience. Came on very quickly with me too, Saturday dinner time and I was sat in the Walk In Centre at 7.45am the next morning. Had the same experience of driving myself and struggling to talk to the receptionist but expecting “there, there have a strepsil!”. I had all the gagging issues too and she kept saying “try your absolute best to make an ahh sound for me” cos nowt was happening.

Sounds like you got great treatment though unpleasant. I couldn’t praise the staff I saw enough, although my treatment was slightly different. They said they thought my body was doing a fabulous job of fighting it off (inflammation and tennis ball glands are a good sign!) so they decided to hold off on prescribing antibiotics for 24 hours to see how I coped without but made plans for me to see an ENT on Christmas Eve or Day if needs be. I’ve got neutropenia so they took a long time deciding a course of action. Hope I never get anything like it again though, I’m sure you’re the same.

pineapplebryanbrown · 01/01/2019 10:17

knickers Deary me, i haven't shat myself (apart from giving birth) since the great gastric flu debacle of 1987. This is why people must not have carpet in the bathroom. Now pissing myself, meh, every coughing fit, every sneeze

Arrrrgh, awake with throat raging.
FFS it hurts.
I took two Co-codamol three hours ago, got a couple of hours sleep until woken by coughing & razored throat.
Have Difflammed my gullet & done a lozenge.

Day 11/12 loosing track, just remember heroic efforts to pick up pre-booked turkey on 23rd - so long ago & far away.

Time for another lozenge & NY Bake Off.
Will this ever go away?

ImogenTubbs · 02/01/2019 07:54

I had a D&V bug on New Year's Eve. I'll just say it's a good thing the toilet and sink are so close together at PILs' house! It was pretty gross. No more sickness now but still feeling grotty and have a cough and cold to boot. Hope everyone feels better soon!

jinglewithbellson · 02/01/2019 08:18

Feeling somewhat more human this morning although I spent yesterday pottering around at home sorting new stuff and wardrobe out so not much energy used.
Saving it for the next four days back at work Confused
Hoping I feel ok

Auramigraine · 02/01/2019 08:19

Me...... my chest feels terrible!!

NoParticularPattern · 02/01/2019 09:12

I’m still ill. So is DD. She decided last night was the absolutely ideal time to wake up every 45 twatting minutes. I cried, a lot, about that situation. Current situation is: snot that feels like it is probably made from silly putty, cough that alternates between chesty and back to pointless, inability to do anything without heavy breathing and complaining.

Oh and now apparently I’ve given it to MIL. Nothing at all to do with one of her other grandchildren open mouth coughing all over the buffet (and me!!) last weekend. No not at all. All my fault! I really want to stay in bed, but apparently DD needs more entertainment than your average hyperactive spaniel so that’s apparently not a thing. Paracetamol are fully ineffective now and breathing through my mouth has created a massive split in my tongue. I am miserable as bloody sin.

pineapplebryanbrown · 02/01/2019 11:58

I was better, now I'm a sneezing snot ball again. Sigh, so tired and I have to walk the dogs. Poor things. Still haven't done my urgent paperwork but i have glanced at it so mini step in right direction.

Me! Had various symptoms since about 21 Dec. Currently having bouts of stomach pains and feeling nauseated, although no actual puking or diarrhoea. Also have a spinning/swimming/lurching head that started quite suddenly mid-morning, making me feel MORE nauseated.
'Ordinary' cold symptoms seem to be coming and going too: cough, lots of foamy or sticky snot, sneezing, shivers/feverish feeling...

I'm glad it isn't just me but I'm SO tired of it now.

myrtleWilson · 02/01/2019 12:06

I've regressed. Am back to annoying dry cough and snotty nose. I think I just need to accept this is me now, living my best life Grin

shecamefromgreece · 02/01/2019 12:11

Me I've woke up feeling rubbish. I was at a NYE party with a friend who had been ill and in bed for most of Xmas but decided to drag himself out for new year (and sneeze and cough over everyoneHmm) my throat is really tight and I feel like someone is sat on my chest.

Olddognewtricks2019 · 02/01/2019 19:52

I’m beginning to worry. I’ve been vomiting every day for about 9 days now. It’s definitely coming about because I’m coughing (huge booming cough) and not nausea, no diarrhoea. Had chest checked and no infection so is this just my body trying to get rid of the mucus? I’ve vomited around 6 times today to a point it’s now just water. I’m only worried because the last time I had sustained vomiting I’d contracted H.pylori.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 02/01/2019 21:08

I thought I didn't have a fever.
I did. By the evening of the 31st I was running 38.9°c
It's been up and down ever since. I'm coughing like I've been on 40 a day for years.
When will this hell end? I've had swine flu and it wasn't this horrible.

pineapplebryanbrown · 02/01/2019 21:21

Yet another day in pyjamas so tired, just sleeping all the time zzzzzzz

Ladybirdbookworm · 02/01/2019 23:17

Just checking in and wanting to let you all know that I have no idea where all this mucus is coming from ....iblew my nose this morning and it was as though my right sided sinus actually cracked !!!
Also having the period from hell and beginning to wonder if the two are going hand in hand.
Looking forward to another extreme nose blow in the morning ....hmm it's the little things ...

Shirleyphallus · 03/01/2019 09:05

I’ve got the same thing, started on Boxing Day with a hacking cough, then it’s basically a multitude of illness delights - when I think
I’m getting over one thing something else strikes

Have been through fever and chills; nausea; headaches. Currently on blocked ears.

One thing I did find hugely useful for the concrete sinuses was a hot steam bath with vicks in it, then towel over head and inhale. That cleared my 24 hour sinus headache actually and all sorts of stuff was dripping out my nose within a few minutes.

shecamefromgreece · 03/01/2019 09:55

Gah well this bug is an absolute delight!
I flying solo today with my four dc and an extra one as dh is back at work. He's been off from the 17th I'd dec it's just Sod's law I get ill now!
I can't actually remember the last time was il!
