They need to die.

Very naff

Now, if you'd restricted the death sentence solely to perpetrators of picky bits, you could probably have garnered enough support on MN to topple the present government and install your own fascist dictatorship.

I came on to sign the death warrant for purveyors of picky tea but I see I've been beaten to it. Bah.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 26/12/2018 15:07

I think the best part of this thread has been NothingOnTelly, especially when she pointed out the public health ramifications of the OP's proposal.

I'm on her team here. This kind of blue-sky thinking on the part of OP without thinking about the details on the ground is probably what led to the fall of the Roman Empire.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/12/2018 15:08

I'm sure you're trying to be glib/hilarious OP but 'die' is a bit much. I assume 'Naff' and 'WTAF' are hardly any better to a lot of people if you want to split hairs.
Nit picking people are usually unhappy or insecure about something else really, aren't they- a bit like bullies. Best to live and let live I think, and realise you arent the authority on whats right, and that words used by others dont actually contain clues as to their personality- especially at bloody Xmas! I can’t stand the use of “I got a few bits” either. Not sure why exactly other than I find it unsufferably twee.

Ruddle91 · 26/12/2018 15:17

I nip doon toon for some bits regularly man

MysweetAudrina · 26/12/2018 15:33

They should be blown to bits that will learn them.

I'd rather someone use a saying I didn't like to someone who would wish death on someone else.

I always say I'm just heading out to pick up a few bits.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 26/12/2018 15:37

How can you care about this but not about people who say things like 'needs gone', leaving out the 'to be' ?

SantasBassoon · 26/12/2018 16:02

I say naff and bits. I'm brazen.

Theoryofmould · 26/12/2018 16:05

"That will learn them" oh that makes me all cross and a Hulk like, I'd give the people that say that a jolly good telling off rather than kill them Grin

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 26/12/2018 16:08

I've heard the much more grammatical alternative of "they'll learn or they'll die learning", Theory. I'd like to use this forum to popularise it.

TooManyPaws · 26/12/2018 16:11

Messages' is Irish AIUI.

It's Scots too.

OnlyaMan · 26/12/2018 16:12

A sentence like "I went to the shops and got some bits" is meant to convey extra information. It doesn't.
The speaker might as well have said "I went to the shops"-or said nothing at all.
"Insufferably twee" sums it up well. I would add "lazy".
When I am in a passive-aggressive mood, I say "Bits of what?"

AloneLonelyLoner · 26/12/2018 16:16

I used to go out with an Aberdonian who used to say ‘odds n sods’ or worse, ‘such likes’ . He also added in the definite article to nouns randomly for no apparent reason. Drove me up the wall. When he asked me to marry him I declined. I wouldn’t though wish death on him.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 16:20

I went to the shops and got some bits is different from I went to the shops

The first person bought more than one small item
The second person may or may not have bought anything, of any size

So yes there is extra information.

I personally find wishing death on millions of men women and children a bit more objecitonable in the phrasing department but I suppose everyone has their priorities.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 26/12/2018 16:21

Okay nothing we get it you are soooooo terribly offended

ikltownofboothlehem · 26/12/2018 16:23

When I am in a passive-aggressive mood, I say "Bits of what?"

Then I'd passively aggressively reply with a real-time breakdown of my shopping trip, what I got from where, how much it cost and how busy the place was. Grin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 16:27

I'm not offended.

I do dislike the current fashion of claiming people who you disagree with etc are "offended" though.

I don't wish them dead though. There's the difference.

I suppose I think that it would be good if people thought a bit more about the casual words they throw around. People say bits "need to die" according to the OP. That is quite an extreme pronouncement.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 26/12/2018 16:48

Ffs

Nobody else thought their entiiiiirrre famillllly was being threatened. Only one drama llama appears to have the hump about it. It's rather telling

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 26/12/2018 16:50

How nothing is lying after reading the threat to life

People who say “bits” as in “I got a few bits”
malmi · 26/12/2018 16:55

I went to the horse tack shop to look at saddles but just came back with a few bits.

AmIthatbloodycold · 26/12/2018 17:05

FFS nothingontelly give it a rest, please

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 26/12/2018 17:07

With you OP.

Bits.

Nibbles.

Just get fucked.

PortiaCastis · 26/12/2018 17:08

Oh FFS what a lot of bloody drama over some shopping.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 26/12/2018 17:09

Not bits of horses I hope?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 17:11

If I don't give it a rest are you going to wish death on me?

Just out of interest.

Do you lot really think it's AOK to go around in real life saying people who do super trivial things that annoy you (like use a word you don;t like) NEED TO DIE?

Don't you think that's a bit strong?

I have simply pointed out to the OP that her desire means that both my children and my lovely FIL need to die. I wonder if she really meant that and if not, why not say just people who say this are fuckign irritating or something?

It's a bit bloody strong wishing death on so many people.

I genuinely don't get these sort of mass murdery fantasies where people who cross my path get killed off horribly so it's a bit - woah - when I see it written down.

Do people make these sorts of pronouncements in real life as well? Like in the office if say someone ate the last biscuit, saying "people who do that NEED TO DIE" you see I'd think that was waaaay over the top.
