People who say “bits” as in “I got a few bits”

They need to die.

Very naff

OP posts:
Argonauts · 26/12/2018 12:47

Nope, Nothing. Irritation, but no deathwish. And I would be surprised if the OP is really consulting her Bumper Book of Execution Methods.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 12:48

Of all the things to say you want people dead over.

I wish people would stop wishing death on others. Do they think about what they are actually saying? Children say this. Huge numbers of people say this. It's so trivial a thing to say you want people killed over.

GobblersKnob · 26/12/2018 12:48

I got some nice bits.

I'm just popping to the shop for some bits.

Also,

My bits are sore.

I'm in bits.

'Bits' = very English level of descriptiveness. Rich Hall has a chapter about it in his book, is wonderful.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 12:49

Argonauts yes as taking out millions of people is difficult.

Nevertheless, she has stated a preference that all children, women and men who say this meet death immediately.

Nice.

Butchyrestingface · 26/12/2018 12:55

How do you want him killed, OP?

Hoisted by his own petard.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2018 12:56

I don't understand how Op wants the conversation to go?

OP 'Where have you been?'

Me 'Into town to get some cheese, crackers, milk, houmous and a birthday card
After that I went to Wilko's for some loo cleaner and shampoo.
I got a coffee to takeaway and on the way home I went to B&M for batteries.'

Or

Me-'Into town for some bits'.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 26/12/2018 12:56

Are you an undertaker at risk of going out of business? Is this a clever ploy to bring in some bodies?

Shiklah · 26/12/2018 12:56

We go to M&S for our bits. But not the big shop, we're not millionaires Grin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 12:58

You want my FIL to be killed in an explosion?

Or was that supposed to be a joke, in which case I'm not sure you understand how to use that phrase properly.

ShowOfHands · 26/12/2018 12:59

Oh I loathe it. They also eat "picky bits" for tea and declare them "yum". That's when they're not eating jacket pots and spag bol.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/12/2018 12:59

Totally 100% with you OP! Grin it must be an English saying as I only ever see it on MN or English FB groups I’m on. Never hear it IRL.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 26/12/2018 12:59

Bad hangover today op?

Jaxtellerswife · 26/12/2018 12:59

We get bits.
Sometimes odds and sods.
I've been known to grab some shiz🤷🏻‍♀️

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 13:00

He's a really nice man, and he's been great since my MIL died and we were all a bit worried that he would go into a delcline really.

Thanks for responding on behalf of the OP about how you would like him to die, though. In an explosion is the answer.

Maybe OP has different ideas. Kind of you to step in for her though.

Do you want to advise how my children should be killed as well? They are 9 and 11.

overnightangel · 26/12/2018 13:00

@PouchofDouglas
I bet you’re a right laugh at parties 😴

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/12/2018 13:01

That's when they're not eating jacket pots and spag bol

Urgh!!!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/12/2018 13:01

More people on board with OPs desire that large numbers of people die (by as yet unspecified means from OP, another poster desires an explosion).

If words are so important that bandying around death wishes on boxing day seems a bit off.

Moonstoned · 26/12/2018 13:02

Nothing, you seem to be taking this awfully personally. I’m pretty sure the OP has no genocidal ambitions, but is just exaggerating about a phrase that annoys her like people do every couple of days on a Mn.

ILoveChristmasLights · 26/12/2018 13:03

Naff?

🙄

OlennasWimple · 26/12/2018 13:04

Blimey, what happened to your Christmas spirit OP?

In any case, "bits" is a darn sight better than people who set out in excruciating detail what they bought at the shops, or what they ate at Christmas, or what they bought their DC

DeaflySilence · 26/12/2018 13:06

"It's short for 'bits and pieces'"

There was a song called 'bits and pieces' in the olden days.

NotACleverName · 26/12/2018 13:06

U ok hun?

YoungLennyGodber · 26/12/2018 13:07

My MIL says this and it irrationally annoys me! Don’t know why though!

MaisyPops · 26/12/2018 13:07

Bits and pieces doesn't bother me, but bits on its own does. I'm not sure why.

I'd say 'I went to town to pick a few things up' or just 'I went to town' as I'm not the type to go window shopping so if I'm going to town then of course there is a reason.

But then again I also hate it when people talk about having 'picky bits' for tea.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 26/12/2018 13:08

'Naff' is more annoying than 'bits' (which I really don't like much on its own. I might say 'bits and bobs'. Or just 'stuff').

NothingOnTellyAgain, taking this so seriously is playing into the OP's hands. 'They need to die' is a bit of silly hyperbole, that's all.
