What kind of new hell is this? Ds (8) loves his sleep, even at Christmas and when it's just us he's stayed sleeping peacefully till 7.30ish. This year we have dsis and 9yo niece staying. She's been up since 5am and decided to wake ds up then too. It's a miracle they've not both woken 2yo dd. I wouldn't mind but we all stayed awake till 1am because niece decided she wasn't going to/ couldn't go to sleep in ds's room so wanted to go in with her mum. She's been opening and closing bedroom doors now for hours. Ffs. And she' doesn't have a normal sized stocking. Oh no, it's a fuck off sized sack for her, comparing it to ds's 'tiny' stocking. Ds is already making noises about the huge injustice of this. Oh and I have laryngitis so was awake till 3 coughing. It's going to be a long fucking day!

Rowgtfc72 · 25/12/2018 06:47

Have always had to wake dd up at 830 Christmas morning.
I've been up since half four as that's my usual work get up time and only have today off so my bodyclock won't reset.
Dh is cosy in bed dreaming of Lego.

smerlin · 25/12/2018 06:48

We were woken up by DD dragging her Santa sack to our room to open pressies. At 2am! Managed to get her back to sleep till 5:59. Sooooo tired

Willow2017 · 25/12/2018 06:58

Merry Xmas everyone.
Just thought iwould pop on to say it doesnt get any better😂😂
My 13yr old woke me at 6!!! I had had about 3 hrs sleep as not sleeping well at the monent. (And did stockings at 1am!)
I said its too early as ds1 16 will never get up but its a Xmas miracle! He fairly bounced through when ds2 went for him.

Stockings open and 1 pressie from.under tree.
Ds1 currently doing fry up for breakfast!

There was me last pm saying "i remember those days of early mornings" Ha!

Roystonv · 25/12/2018 07:02

Grown up dc here and from reading the above we were so lucky with our two. Some awful stories of sleep deprivation and thwarted plans. Bless you all and may some Christmas magic get you through the day.

alfiesmam · 25/12/2018 07:06

Up since 5- bed at 2... heading back for an hour or 2 now as I’m wrecked

Herja · 25/12/2018 07:10

We restarted at 5.30, which I feel is reasonable. I was lured in to buying sugar mive for stockings by mumsnet and neither of them liked them! I also haave stockings (made by me, for me. Earings and perfume this year!) So I have already eaten 3 sugar mice, I feel a bit sick. I tild them they could open more presents when ex gets here, which shiould be any minute. For now it's cbeebies and soon coffee. No one is fighting. It's a christmas miracle.

crimsonlake · 25/12/2018 07:13

Mine are grown up and it is so lovely to read these stories as it brings back memories. The pressure of trying to sneak their sacks by their beds without waking them, I remember one year my eldest stayed wake all night, what a night that was. I have put the turkey in the oven and am having a quiet moment before the get up at an agreed 8 am. I still put the stockings by their beds and they will climb in with me to open their presents. We actually follow the same traditions as when they were little and I have just eaten the mince pie we left out for Santa. Merry Christmas everyone.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 25/12/2018 07:13

huggybear so sorry for the loss of your lovely Dad. I will be thinking of you today.

ChristmasKnickers · 25/12/2018 07:26

I wasn't understanding the stocking thing, until I realised that they were all on children's beds! We've always had them downstairs on hooks over the fireplace...or, when in a house with no fireplace, dangling from a window ledge 😂.

Anyway...Merry Christmas all 🎅

Darkestnight · 25/12/2018 07:28

Oh I remember those days well but now I'm having a lie in while dd who is 18 is asleep to. Enjoy it as they grow fast but for now I'm having a lay in Grin

Wonkysack · 25/12/2018 07:28

Morning all. Merry Xmas, said bleary eyed.
Well was woken at 20 min intervals, she went downstairs etc.
God firm around 4 30 and said no, to bed and sleep. She's now asleep. Toddler awake will gently rouse.
Long day ahead x

When ours were little, DH told them that Santa's list was in alphabetical order and as our surname was near the end of the alphabet there was no point in getting up early! It did work.

One year we actually had snow over Christmas and we overheard the children saying they would be able to see where the sleigh had landed. So at 1 in the morning, DH and I were out making tracks using a children's picnic bench tied to a rope which we threw across the lawn and pulled back towards us. Our neighbours spotted us doing it and were laughing at us. They showed their kids in the morning too!

Now they are all young adults and the eldest won't get here till this afternoon. One of the others is already up and lurking so we will be getting started soon.

SoupDragon · 25/12/2018 08:07

None of my 3 ever woke up early on Christmas day or struggled to go to bed. It's really weird! My siblings and I were horrendous!

Frankswife87 · 25/12/2018 09:37

We tell our DD that she's to stay in her room until morning and not to come out unless it's an emergency or she will be in trouble, it works and stops 3am waking's Xmas Grin

hammeringinmyhead · 25/12/2018 10:05

Our DS woke up at 6 but went back to sleep until 9. It helps he is 7 weeks old... Give it 2 years!

Jowak1 · 25/12/2018 10:11

My 11 year old woke up 4 times!!! Asking if he had been!! Very tired but chuffed he still believes at 11 😊 I think it will be the last year though!

Arrowfanatic · 25/12/2018 10:30

My 7 year old ds was banging around from 5.30am which woke me up (he has a loft bed and its really loud) which woke me. I was then on edge waiting to here everyone else get up.

My DD6 and DD9 both got up around 6.45am which tbf is late for them.

Thankfully they were all in bed by 8pm and snoring shortly thereafter. I have all the family coming over later so im drinking buckets of caffiene to keep me awake.

fibonaccisequins · 25/12/2018 11:09

Stockings in the front room, kids in bed by 11pm (mine are young teens) with strict instructions not to get up before 8am.
Youngest woke me at 8.40am, eldest had to be woken at 9am. I got to bed around 1am (because I was drinking mulled wine and singing along to Cliff while I filled stockings!) so this has been quite a relaxed year... Apart from a quick dash to the corner shop for gelatin for the pudding -
DHia doing the pudding and was losing his shit, was hilarious! Thankfully I hadn't had any alcohol yet, so was OK to drive. I'm a glass of Bucks Fizz in now, and chomping on Lindt chocs for breakfast [santa]
Merry Christmas MN! Loads of hugs and coffees for the sleepy mums, I hope the kids nap so you can have a quiet wine/nap/leave the kids with the ILs and can escape to the pub WineBrew

Wonkysack · 25/12/2018 11:30

Jowack my 11 yo still believes

thebaronetofcockburn · 25/12/2018 11:35

I actually fucking hate Christmas. I'm so glad mine are all older and we barely bother with it. It's overrated, big hype over one day and the getting up early is one of the worst parts of it.

Zofloramummy · 25/12/2018 11:38

I woke my dd (7) at 8 and she asked if she could have a bit more sleep! Off to my mums for Xmas dinner soon and then home to have a nice glass of wine and start to clear the tornado in my living room 🙄

youaremyworstmistake · 25/12/2018 11:40

DS woke up at 8:30 after going to bed at 7 Grin. It doesn't happen often as he's always awake at 6 sometimes 5

Wonkysack · 25/12/2018 11:54

Totally agree cockburn. Fking hate it.
Let them all start their own families and leave me to sleep till 10
