No children in this house (well, not unless you count DH!!) so no stupid o’clock dashes to get presents out and fill stockings or to be put under the tree; however, I’ve been wide awake since 3:35am with no good reason so, at 4am, I gave up on pretending I was asleep and put the radio on and picked up Mnet. Am not feeling the ‘love’ this year for various reasons and would happily wake up on Boxing Day to know it’s all over for this year!!

As children we didn’t have big Christmas stockings, Father Christmas would leave one of our school socks at the end of the bed with a few bits of fruit and a couple of little gifts in it. All other presents were left downstairs after everyone had gone to bed, lounge door was locked and key put safely away wherever these things were put in the 1970’s!! We were not allowed downstairs till mum and dad were up and not one present was touched till we had all got dressed and had breakfast - and then it was only one or two gifts at a time each. One year we still had presents to open on New Year’s Day!!

HowDoYouMilkANut · 25/12/2018 04:37

My DC are asleep but DH is on a night shift and I never sleep well for the first one! Tomorrow night I'll be so exhausted I'll sleep like a log. We're doing presents as soon as he gets in about 630, then he's off to bed and I'm up for the day with the small ones.

Mamababynumber2 · 25/12/2018 04:40

Dd8 has not fallen asleep and it's nearly 5am!!!

canigetaliein · 25/12/2018 04:41

DC (4) has already been in to tell me Santa has been & that he must have been really good as he has lots of presents. He’s lying in bed trying to go back to sleep, it must be torture! 😂. My siblings and I once got up at 4am & snuck downstairs, opened everything & started playing. Mum appeared at 5am, absolutely livid & sent us to bed.

thaegumathteth · 25/12/2018 04:43

Dd woke at 245 but she’s sleeping now. I cannot get back to sleep though Sad I’d really like a Christmas when I’m not exhausted and feeling crap.

OnlineAlienator · 25/12/2018 04:48

Feeling a little queasy now and not if its the pain or the pink juuce from the chicken i ate earlier but didnt want to point out as my mum worked so hard to cook and recook it Blush

ladybirdsaredotty · 25/12/2018 04:49

I've been up since 4am with 14mo. He is WIDE AWAKE. He doesn't have a clue about Christmas HmmGrin Luckily his sisters (7 and 4) sleep on!

user1471426142 · 25/12/2018 04:50

We’ve got a house of Sickness. Didn’t get to bed until 1.30 due to intermittent tears and coughing. Was back up at 4,30. Fortunately toddler has gone back to bed but I’m a bit broken.

canigetaliein · 25/12/2018 04:51

DC1 has just informed me he can’t sleep as he just wants to look at his presents, bless.

frogsbreath · 25/12/2018 04:52

My ds (6) was awake until 11ish, declaring nothing can make him sleep

He came into my room at 1.30 ish to complain Santa hadn't been and it felt like all the other christmasses had been quicker.

Went to steal his stocking at 3am and he was still awake.

Stayed awake myself until 4.15 when I finally did his bedroom stocking and now I can't sleep.

Stocking downstairs next year Angry

Buggeroffbingbunny · 25/12/2018 04:54

Stockings definitely go the mantelpiece downstairs in our house and DS is only 2. I didn’t realise people put them in bedrooms!

Same as tooth fairy- teeth always left under the lounge rug when we were kids not under pillows. Saves sneaking around!

Stringofpearls · 25/12/2018 04:55

I'm awake and waiting for my baby to wake up, its our first Christmas with our first baby sp I'm ridiculously excited!Xmas Smile

cheesemumma · 25/12/2018 04:55

DD woke at 4 and just gone back to sleep, she doesn't realise it's Christmas, but now I'm awake I'm going to be up with morning sickness so jumped on MN.

Waiting for DH to come in from a Nightshift.

Llanali · 25/12/2018 04:59

DD went to bed at 9pm and is still asleep without a peep.

I came home from surgery from another D&C/ERPC at 8.30pm, helped DH with stockings etc and cake to bed at midnight. And been awake since 3.45am!! Ffs.

Sleepinghooty · 25/12/2018 05:02

Ds2 is awake with a horrible cough. We’ve got a house full of family so he was on a mattress on our floor. In an attempt no to wake everyone with coughing we’re downstairs watching cartoons- poor boy is feeling too unwell to get excited by the presents. Reckon we’ve got another couple of hours before anyone else surfaces. But don’t think there’s a chance of more sleep for me!

letmepeeinpeace · 25/12/2018 05:07

I've never left presents in bedrooms, lounge only.

CanuckBC · 25/12/2018 05:07

I am still awake and so is one son, however... it is only 9 pm here!!! Many hours to go still. Have to do the mad dash of wrapping gifts and Santa run. Ugh. My oldest was going to do it with me but decided to go to sleep at 7?!? Very unusual for him. So I am just going to put my youngest (10) asleep and hope I don’t fall asleep with him.

cushioncovers · 25/12/2018 05:08

I'm awake sat in bed drinking tea. Couldn't sleep. My dc are older now so I will probably have to wake them up later.

Oysterbabe · 25/12/2018 05:10

My 1 year old has been awake and crying for the entire night, which he has never ever done before. I feel like it's ruined Christmas. I can't see me feeling like smoked salmon and champagne in a few hours, I feel like I'm going to throw up I'm so exhausted.

categed · 25/12/2018 05:16

My two were awake at 2am ish. We open some presents before bed (visit family nd never have time otherwise) of to bed and all aslee by midnight. New stockings from santa, pre packed popped into rooms. An hour and a bit of play then back to bed. I am up coughing now though 😂😂

ohtheholidays · 25/12/2018 05:20

I've just had to go upstairs to beg my DS17 to stop shouting because his sodding girlfriend has rung him up to have a go at him at 4 in the morning on Christmas Eve,bloody hell I don't care if she doesn't celebrate Christmas in her house,in this house we do and we have 5DC!

I'm now dreading the rest of the day!

I hope everyone else manages to get some sleep,Merry Christmas all.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/12/2018 05:22

Hope he's not coming down with something Oyster.

Just trying to get some sleep here but DS is awake - he had to go to the toilet. I've told him it's very early yet and to go back to sleep...

2ducks2ducklings · 25/12/2018 05:27

@P2202 I'm exactly the same! Absolutely terrified that we're going to be burgled. I nodded off at about 1.30 and woke at 5am. Everyone else is still asleep though

0hT00dles · 25/12/2018 05:33

Dd4 woke up needing a wee and we’re in a hotel so we probably wouldve gotten her back to sleep only all the presents were ‘hidden’ in the bath with the empty plate by the front door of the room.

Now she’s wide awake opening lol dolls. I’m shattered

PeapodBurgundy · 25/12/2018 05:40

Santa hasn't even been in this house yet. I fell asleep on the sofa feeding DD; 'D'P decided rather than wake me so I A) don't smother the baby, and B) can finish my cleaning, put up the Christmas decorations, and do Santa duties, just to go to bed and leave me there. DS woke me at 2.30AM coming downstairs to a half decorated room, so there's the magical reveal ruined, and took until 4.30 to go back over. Managed to get the dining room sorted out, and the tree up. DD is now feeding again, I need to finish the tree, take food out of the freezer and do Santa duties before DS wakes up again. Stressed to hell and resisting the urge to smother 'D'P with a pillow in his sleep!!!
