Set my alarm for 5am to fill stockings, couldn’t get back to sleep so lying in bed with a coffee with DH and the bloody kids are snoring.

Don’t they know he’s been??!

DrWhy · 25/12/2018 05:43

DS (2) was up around 11 with a wet bed (gets half out of his nappy somehow), sorted that, got DD (7 weeks) so sleep about midnight), she was up at 4.45 (good stretch!) had a feed then refused to go back to sleep. DS started moaning so I looked in on him but head was still on his pillow and he looked to be mainly asleep so I backed out rapidly, it’s really rare that someone hasn’t had to get up for him by this time. DD is now feeding again and I’m really hoping I can put her down and grt another hour but experience suggests that once she’s awake it’s an hour and a half to 2 hours before she’s back to sleep, by which time DS will def be uo.

Fluffytheevil1 · 25/12/2018 05:44

Wide awake here but both DC are still asleep. Despite putting themselves to bed at 8pm Hmm
‘D’ H woke me up so I’ve lay here wondering how long the kids would take to wake up and he just shook me again claiming I’m snoring. Confused I asked how I can snore if I’m awake?! I’m too annoyed to go back to sleep now Angry.

sashh · 25/12/2018 05:44

This year our son is up at 3:30am but he's only 3 weeks old so we'll forgive him! Unfortunately we lost the dog recently, we'll have to get another to continue the Christmas morning lie ins!

My brother used to do church. The presents were delivered into the dining room which had a glass door but was magically locked by Santa and could only be opened after church.

If you don't actually want a new dog ask neighbours who have dogs, I'm sure someone would happily lend you a dog for a walk.

Shazafied · 25/12/2018 05:44

@oysterbabe I feel you. My 1yo has had a shocking night and has been properly awake since 4. And I’ve been awake myself anyway with back pain. Meerrrryyyyyyyy Christmas !!!

DrWhy · 25/12/2018 05:46

Oh and we planned to put stockings by the fireplace but then realised at 10pm that would mean DS seeing the present pile when he first woke. He would then want to open everything and probably have an almighty breakdown about having to have breakfast, get dressed etc. So we’ve put the stocking in his room instead. Planning to move it upstairs when he’s a bit older.

ProjectGainsborough · 25/12/2018 05:47

Mine were awake at 4. They’re now watching tv and dd is crying because she can’t open presents until 7 when the GP get up (they’ll sleep through anything) Xmas Hmm

Happy bloody Christmas

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 25/12/2018 05:50

My DD is 11 and semi believes, she caught me hanging her stocking up in her room at 11.30. 😩

I got up for a wee at 4.30 and her light was on, she was reading and I made her go back to sleep.

I've been downstairs drinking tea and Mumsnetting since!

Llanali · 25/12/2018 05:51

@P2202 and @2ducklings2ducks

Do you want to borrow a dog? Pressies in the sitting room.... only accessible through the room with five sleeping big dogs in. Good luck, Mr Burgler..... My dogs can sprint at speeds approaching 40mph- can you?

malificent7 · 25/12/2018 05:54

Dd is awake . At 10 she dosn't beleive in Santa but wants too yet common sense is kicking in.
However she is wildly excited and cannot wait to open gifts...stocking is in her room...ooooooops!
Ironically when she did beleive in Santa she slept till 7.Confused
I will do her a stocking till she is 60 +!

Weebitawks · 25/12/2018 05:55

I must be the only person in the world who has to wake her kids! DS is almost 8 and has never done the walking up ridiculously early thing! And this seems to be the only day that my 3 year old doesn’t wake up st 5am!

Am I not making Christmas magical and exciting enough???

Theonewiththecat · 25/12/2018 06:00

Dd (9) went to bed at half 8. I went in at 9, she was still up, so she put some tv on. I went in at just after 10 and she was still up (she normally goes straight to sleep) so I told her to turn her light out and try.
At 5.38am the cat started to go mad, really loud meowing. So I went to investigate. Dd had woken up and the cat wanted to see her. 🙄
So I went and sat with her, then her best friend text her, and now they are facetiming 🧡 it was really cute.

CakeRattleandRoll · 25/12/2018 06:02

We're in Australia and don't have a chimney, so Father Christmas always leaves the presents in the backyard cubby. And that's where stockings get hung too. Solves a lot of problems!

I remember reading a good tip for those that have stockings in the bedrooms - make sure child has two identical stockings, one gets hung up at bedtime, then parents can fill the other and do a quick switch later on.

SpeckledyHen · 25/12/2018 06:09

Oh how I miss all this . Enjoy it whilst it lasts . My DS1 is in Oz on a beach 🏖 and DS2 will be hanging when we next see him . Happy Knackerd Christmas to you all 🎄.

yesmelord · 25/12/2018 06:10

We've been up since 4:45, we're going to have some very tired and grumpy kids before lunch Envy

All Father Christmas presents now opened and torn to shreds. Waiting till family comes later to do tree gifts.

DH starting to fall sleep on the sofa.

I guess I better get ready for the day!

brizzledrizzle · 25/12/2018 06:10

I've been awake for a couple of hours, the three musketeers are all still fast asleep.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 25/12/2018 06:14

I have been reminding 6yo for at least a week that after 5am is ok but will make me tired and irritable, after 6am is fine. He's a fairly early riser at the best of times and only just getting the hang of amusing himself for a bit before waking me.

Santa delivered - to his room - at 11pm and he hasn't woken up yet. Confused

9mo, otoh... 😴

DragonMamma · 25/12/2018 06:18

I’ve been awake since 4.30am for no good reason. The DC are still asleep.

I could murder a cup of tea and a biscuit but I’m not risking it. This is the danger hour.

MaryShelley1818 · 25/12/2018 06:19

I’ve been awake since 4.50am, DH since about 3.30am and DS (12mths) has been fast asleep and snoring since he fell asleep at 8.30!
To be fair though we were both asleep by about 9pm as we were all in bed watching the Snowman together so still had a really good nights sleep. DH has just crept downstairs for a coffee and to watch some news.
I’ve never heard of people having stockings in bedrooms...they’re supposed to be hung by the fireplace surely?

Blobby10 · 25/12/2018 06:21

I remember those days when my three wouldn’t go to sleep because they were so excited. Nasty mum that I am told then the presents might be magicked away if they woke up before 6am and that I would put the light on so they knew when they could get up!

We only had one occasion of a 5 year old walking at 1am and scoffing all the chocolate in his stocking which I had put in his room about half an hour earlier 😂😂. Think we got off lightly by the sounds of some of other people’s stories

LlamaShark · 25/12/2018 06:23

I got DD's to ask Santa to leave the stockings in my bedroom. Good job really as the first one woke at 3.30 🙄

MaverickSnoopy · 25/12/2018 06:32

I think by all accounts here we had a pretty good night. I'm too tired to know really.

Got to bed at 11pm. Was up at 1:30am with 2mo for a feed. Started doing stockings once she was back to sleep at about 2:15am. 7yo interrupted but I managed to stop her coming in using baby as excuse. Had to stay awake to guard stockings that were filled in case she came in again. Then managed to fill stockings and get back to bed by 3:30am. 7yo came in at 4:15am - sent her back to bed. 2mo woke at 5:15am and then 7yo came in. So all in all I've had about 4 hours sleep. Obviously I'll need to get my energy from chocolate.

Huggybear16 · 25/12/2018 06:32

My wonderful dad sadly passed away this year, but he LOVED Christmas.

When my sister and I were kids, HE WOKE US UP at about 3am to tell us Santa had been.

He was so excited to see us open our presents. He loved Christmas and everything about it. I'm actually typing this through a few tears, it just isn't the same without him.

purplerainpitcher · 25/12/2018 06:34

DD9 went for a sleep over with DH 11 year old sister the night before Xmas eve. apparently they were up half the night according to MIL. she was passed out by by 8pm last night and I'm led here now at 6:30 waiting for her to wake up DH said I'm not allowed to wake her up.....

Amibeingnaive · 25/12/2018 06:41

DD7 came trotting into us at 4am asking if we could all go downstairs. As I only made it to bed at 2am, my answer was 'fuck no', so I took her into bed with us for a cuddle to try and settle her.

Of course she fell asleep, starfished and I ended up cramped and hot so got up eventually and left her and DH snoring away. DS8 also still asleep.

So the only dickhead awake is me. And the cat. Sigh.
