As there is no biblical scripture to show Jesus was born at the time of the winter solstice. Surely it’s just teaching creationism or that the world is flat?

Not caught up with entire thread but wanted to add a bizarre nativity

In a nativity play, in a near by school...Joseph was referred to as Jesus's foster Dad. When parents asked WTF to the school. The school responded by saying....

'Joseph wasnt Jesus's Dad'

I don't know, what this adds. But to me it's the sign of changing times. WTF times

I'm not a Christian and believe the story of the nativity was tied to the winter solstice.

WheelyCoteClaus · 24/12/2018 18:39

Is that your atheist tolerance speaking? Grin

Religion is banned from schools in France Abra1de and they study philosophy instead.

This is a misrepresentation of the status of religious education and of philosophy in French schools.

The teaching of Philosophy is reserved for pupils in Terminale (Year 13) and replaces the teaching of French language and literature, which are examined for the final Baccalauréat examination in Première (Year 12).

Religious teaching is ubiquitous in French faith schools, which are private but massively state subsidized and open to all comers.

The French National curriculum does not avoid religion as a topic of legitimate human enquiry.

French secular schools observe Catholic holidays and cultural practices in a fairly widespread manner.

Is that your atheist tolerance speaking?

Who said atheists are tolerant?

Somed may be some not.

Atheism has no dogma- no rules.

DGRossetti · 27/12/2018 11:18

Atheism has no dogma- no rules.

Some peoples atheism ... for others it's a serious as a religion. Look at all the people who are mortally insulted at being invited to churchy-events. There'll doubtless be one along soon.

There are seven types of atheist according to John Gray www.spectator.co.uk/2018/04/what-does-john-grays-anti-atheism-amount-to/

MaisyPops · 29/12/2018 16:36

That's an interesting article mostly
I like the point about Dawkins style atheism. I personally find that sort of self righteous anti religion nonsense as ridiculous and intolerant as religious fundamentalism.

And that's before you get into the usual 'I sent my child to a faith school and am pissed off at the faith element' atheists.
