To ask what we have to look forward to after March 29th 2019

It turns out Theresa May’s definition of ‘soverignity and democracy’ is to postpone a democratic vote, not allow anyone except her to change their mind and generally run to clock down until her deal is the only option.

So what do people think about that?

What are the benefits we have to look forward to when we leave the EU given it turns out ‘they don’t actually need is more than we need them’ after all?

What are we doing this for?

(And for those who want to ignore Brexit, don’t read this thread. Equally, this is the biggest thing this country has ever faced in most of our generation so please don’t banish this to the Brexit section)

Controlled immigration So you haven't heard that Savid Javid has dropped the Tory immigration cap, then?

Less pressure on our services.
With a fall in EU doctors and nurses and support services the NHS will be under more pressure than ever before. Do try and keep up.

A feeling of freedom. Yeeees, you might feel free but you will have actually lost a lot of rights. I don't think you an count personal delusions as an advantage.

Possible drop in house prices so my children can actually afford a home. So a possible advantage with no actual evidence that it will happen? Of course without a job it is unlikely that they will be able to afford one anyway.

Great list! Now can we have one based on reality?

Judeeee · 19/12/2018 10:07

Recession, mass unemployment, increased homelessness, soaring food prices...

But no need to worry when there is a royal birth due, Wimbledon and Glastonbury 🤦‍♀️

BrexitDestruction · 19/12/2018 10:08

"A feeling of freedom". Fuck me. It's all worth it then.

Russiawithlove · 19/12/2018 10:10

recently have you recently changed your username by any chance?

recently · 19/12/2018 10:11

Not recently! Why?

Russiawithlove · 19/12/2018 10:12

If you have you might think about changing your linguistic style.

DoctorTwo · 19/12/2018 10:13

Well OP, if we leave with no deal/no CU/SM a lot of hard working families will have a lot more time to be together due to their JIT manufacturing jobs being relocated to either Mainland Europe or the Far East. So that's something Smile

fanfan18 · 19/12/2018 10:14

I'm going on holiday on 29th March 2019 so I'm looking forward to that. Grin

If you have you might think about changing your linguistic style.
1)I've already told you I haven't.
2) If you are trying to make a point, maybe you could just come out and say it rather than making snide remarks?

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 10:17

Do you not believe that studying economics for decades might, just possibly, give someone the edge on you?

People who understand economics realise it is not an exact science, the majority of economists where not predicting the 2008 crash, only a few outliers.

People pick and choose economists to listen to when it suits their narrative, hence why some labour supporters like to cite Big Banks/economists that are in favour of remain yet brush them aside when those same economists and big banks say a Corbyn government would be a disaster for the country.

I may be thick and ridiculous but I think you were previously barebehind

SusanWalker · 19/12/2018 10:19

House prices need to be brought down by increasing supply. Making imports of raw materials more difficult is not going to do this. House builders are not going to.build the numbers of houses we need if prices are dropping sharply. Prices need to drop slowly and smoothly as the housing stock increases.

And I agree that brexit is going to cause more not less pressure on services. More cuts will be in the pipeline.

No, but it's not 50:50 with some experts for or against is it? Overwhelming it has been predicted that Brexit will be bad for the economy. In fact most Leavers seem to have given up even arguing to the contrary.

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 10:20

Well OP, if we leave with no deal/no CU/SM a lot of hard working families will have a lot more time to be together due to their JIT manufacturing jobs being relocated to either Mainland Europe or the Far East. So that's something

See, this somes it up, there is a nobel prize winning economist explaining you that some are being hysterical and hyperobolic, but they refuse to accept this "expert".

Ha, ha. No.

Bearbehind · 19/12/2018 10:23

I love someone to explain why they think falling house prices is a good thing?

I appreciate that, in isolation, it might seem that way but do people really not understand that falling house prices is just 1 symptom of a declining economy.

That means that all other factors do not remain equal so very few would actually benefit from such falls in house prices.

Cheaper houses are still unaffordable if you lack job security or interest rates are soaring.

Bearbehind · 19/12/2018 10:24

In fact most Leavers seem to have given up even arguing to the contrary.

Exactly - there’s still no benefits to speak of, just a load of very tired sound bites and ‘feelings’

icannotremember · 19/12/2018 10:24

Watching leavers look around for someone other than themselves to blame when the reality of what they have done to us all is evident. That's pretty much the only positive I can think of, and it's not one that's worth it.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 10:24

Shock

Now thats image im going to have a heard time forgetting

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 10:24

No, but it's not 50:50 with some experts for or against is it?

It still doesn't make it an exact science, and it really wasn't 50:50 regarding the Financial crisis either.

Also some are using "economic ruin" when even the worst case scenarios predicted by the economist who say it is a bad idea, project we will lose 0.5% of GDP growth YOY resulting in a loss of 11bn by 2030, that is including all compound factors of potential job losses etc.

But people are not really listening and understanding these predictions, but reading "economic ruin" and running with it.

Russiawithlove · 19/12/2018 10:24

Only takes 2 secs to keep changing names back and forth. Nice try though

recently · 19/12/2018 10:27

Oh stop your stirring Russia. If you really want to check - ask MN to verify. We are not the same person! Or maybe you've run out of any sensible arguments and are trying to deflect?
