Why the the leavers so scared of a second vote?

StrumALum · 16/12/2018 15:27

I don't get it.

The leavers were fed some lies, that much is obvious.

What I don't get though is that if the leavers are so sure of themselves then why are they so worried about a second vote? If it's 'the will of the people' then it will be the same outcome anyway.

Or are they panicking because now the lies (like the bus) have been exposed, people are now more clued up and they were relying on people not being clued up to get the vote through in the first place?

Ah pleeeaase.. the only folks voting leave in such circumstances are older generation "foreigner haters" living in their bubble.

Oh, right, are they the wrong sort of Leavers, then eh @cider?

You sure do know an awful lot of people in bubbles...

Loletta · 16/12/2018 19:22

If food and medicine are sitting behind the borders of France and Ireland and EU officials are tapping their clipboards and saying ‘rules is rules’ refusing to let it through while people starve - I doubt very much history would blame leavers. GB did a similar thing during the potato famine refusing to relax trade laws which could have saved lives while people starved. If the EU wants to be seen like that then they’re fools.

Are you insane??
Today I was in John Lewis at 3 minutes to 11 (browsing hour) to buy a pair of shoes for my son. The shopping assistant asked me if he wanted to try a pair of shoes on. She went to the back to get them, her supervisor came out and said she shouldn't have asked me because it wasn't 11 am yet. And you think it's Europeans who follow the rules with blinkers on?

bellinisurge · 16/12/2018 19:23

"Remain is quite obviously a movement which seeks to impose the views of the wealthy elite on the largely unwilling poorer classes."

Bullshit. But keep doffing your cap to Rees Mogg and Johnson. You might have to wait for crumbs from them.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/12/2018 19:24

Don't try and stir the pot, the deal is shit all round hence why its being rejected. It BINO, we will end up walking out with no deal

The deal was always going to be shit because Brexit is shit. May's is the least shit. No deal won't happen because of the GFA.

underneaththeash · 16/12/2018 19:24

I don't think anyone's scared of another vote but.

                             WE'VE ALREADY HAD A VOTE

It was a people's vote too as people voted for it.
(I voted remain, but there were and are good arguments either way).

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/12/2018 19:25

we aren't owned by either the EU or Ireland
That's the way its going, we need to get out now before the EU does own us. Just take the current 'backstop', which only allows us to leave the EU if the EU gives us permission.

CiderBrains · 16/12/2018 19:26

It's kind of like marrying a man or woman in the 70s, spending years with them but over the years things have changed/gotten worse/you have put up with things you don't really want. Then one day you decide you want a divorce but the other person makes it difficult and becomes nasty and uncooperative and you realise during that divorce that actually they are, as you suspected, a complete asshole and you can't wait to get out.

Like divorce, things are up in the air and scary and you wonder how on earth you will get through this and live on for the rest of your life. Afterwards you are glad it's over, you make your adjustments and are glad you got out of that bad marriage and are able to start again no matter how scary it may seem at first...

callmeadoctor · 16/12/2018 19:26

We have already had a peoples vote, thats why! Confused

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/12/2018 19:26

Remain is quite obviously a movement which seeks to impose the views of the wealthy elite on the largely unwilling poorer classes

I'll spare us all the tedium of listing all the vastly wealthy Brexiteers who are gunning for a No Deal that will comprehensively fuck the poor, shall I?

Justanotherlurker · 16/12/2018 19:27

I agree Brexit is shit, but unless something changes we will end up with no deal, its pretty certain this is not going to be voted through.

Rumboogie · 16/12/2018 19:27

@bellinisurge @UnneccessaryFennell

You have succumbed to the propaganda. Many authorities who should know do not agree that a 'no deal Brexit', or, more properly, a 'Bare Bones Brexit' ie exiting on WTO terms but with a number of mini-deals, to minimise disruption will be disadvantageous and certainly not a catastrophe. (see some links below)

A second point is that in any negotiation you must be genuinely willing to walk away, and that means knowing, and being prepared for your best alternative to any agreement. This is what the Government have failed to do - and it seems, actually been prevented from doing by remainer MPs, specifically Hammond, who refused to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.

bellinisurge · 16/12/2018 19:27

So your personal prediction excuses your shameful famine analogy and screwing up the Good Friday Agreement? Hmm

Justanotherlurker · 16/12/2018 19:27

Bullshit. But keep doffing your cap to Rees Mogg and Johnson. You might have to wait for crumbs from them.

And Corbyn, or doesn't that fit the narrative of big business/banks all supporting remain

brizzledrizzle · 16/12/2018 19:28

Now the full facts are known.

Are they? Or do we know what the politicians want us to know?
Even if the full facts are out in the public domain our old friend 'One GCSE Gary' isn't that likely to take any notice of them, he'll just vote against 'Ahmed the neurosurgeon' coming over here and taking all the jobs.

MutantDisco · 16/12/2018 19:28

Ah, I see no-one's answered my Putin question. It clearly hadn't entered Leavers' heads that he wants a weakened UK/EU. He's doing his best in France with the gilets jaunes at the moment.

bellinisurge · 16/12/2018 19:29

@Rumboogie , difference is, I'm happy to be wrong. I'm a prepper so I won't starve. Me being wrong would be the best outcome. Can you say that?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/12/2018 19:29

Do you want Putin or the EU? Because that is your basic choice.

LOL, is that the best argument remainers have? Or is a secret plot by Corbyn?

gonzo77 · 16/12/2018 19:30

Not afraid of another referendum. I am just disgusted that a democratic vote may be ignored because our ministers do not like the result.

bellinisurge · 16/12/2018 19:30

"And Corbyn, or doesn't that fit the narrative of big business/banks all supporting remain"
Corbyn is a mendacious twat and a Leave supporter.
I hate his fucking guts and always have.

Fatasfook · 16/12/2018 19:30

A girl I know voted leave because she believes the tripe about the nhs getting more money.
I think that those of you that think it is undemocratic to have another vote don’t understand what a democracy is.
We need another vote.

Justanotherlurker · 16/12/2018 19:30

Do you want Putin or the EU? Because that is your basic choice.

This is one of the funniest comments I've read this year!

CiderBrains · 16/12/2018 19:31

Voting to rid of "the foreigners " ex fil is the wrong kind of leaver voter yes. And why wouldn't it be? Hmm

Feb2018mumma · 16/12/2018 19:31

I think the point is, why vote if you have to have another vote becuase the people who voted for the other side don't like it?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/12/2018 19:31

That's the way its going, we need to get out now before the EU does own us. Just take the current 'backstop', which only allows us to leave the EU if the EU gives us permission.

The backstop exists because it protects the GFA as the British have been unable to square an open border with leaving the EU. The UK are co signatories of this international agreement.

I agree Brexit is shit, but unless something changes we will end up with no deal, its pretty certain this is not going to be voted through.

May needs to tell the electorate the truth and that Brexit is unworkable. This of course won't happen because it requires honesty, integrity and the Tories putting country before party.

Loletta · 16/12/2018 19:32

Would you rather have a backstop or the return of hard border in NI? Do you not understand the EU is acting in our own interests in preventing the far right from trampling on the GFA?
