Sitting here eagerly awaiting 5pm when I'm off work for the rest of December! Using up all my annual leave so I'll regret it in a few months but hey ho! Do you get a Christmas break? If so, how long are you taking Xmas Smile

OP posts:
RuthW · 14/12/2018 20:40

Finish 3pm Christmas eve and back 8 am day after boxing day.

Nope, finishing as soon as I get my job done on Xmas Eve, so could be 2pm but more than likely will be 4pm. Back in on the 27th at 8.30am Hmm

Unescorted · 14/12/2018 20:43

Today until 7th.

notsurewhatshappening · 14/12/2018 20:43

I'm a primary teacher...
Finish on Friday 21st and back to.work on Monday 7th. I will spend at least 4 days working though.

peachgreen · 14/12/2018 20:44

I'm on mat leave so either... already or never, depending on your perspective Grin

BentNeckLady · 14/12/2018 20:46

Finish Friday and back 7th Jan. I’ve worked my fair share of christmasses so I don’t feel at all guilty about being absolutely over the bloody moon about having so long off! I’m counting down the seconds.

HariboLecter · 14/12/2018 20:47

Finish 5pm on the 24th, back at 9am on the 27th.

Givemeyourbunsandyourbiscuits · 14/12/2018 20:47

I'm working Xmas day Xmas Smile

StresserJoy · 14/12/2018 20:55

I finish at 5:45 on the 21st and I'm not back in 'til the 7th. I am so, so happy.
I could have taken it off unpaid and used my annual leave elsewhere (the whole business is closed for the 2 weeks) but new holiday year starts in Feb anyway, so I'd rather take it paid!

Biggerknickersagain · 14/12/2018 20:56

Working all through. Busiest time of the year, but I do have Christmas day off technically, although Christmas Eve shift takes me through to Christmas morning. Second time in years I've had Christmas day off, so happy with that!
Will have a week off in the new year to collapse and recover after the madness that is Christmas where I work Xmas Smile

Just as a matter of interest, for those of you that have Christmas breaks because your workplace closes, does the time your companies are closed count towards your annual leave? Or is it seperate or is it just unpaid?

Hope you all enjoy whatever time off you get over Christmas Xmas Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 14/12/2018 20:57

Finish Wednesday 19th and back on Monday 14th Jan Xmas Grin
I took some annual leave - I'm a scientist working in Germany.

Kim82 · 14/12/2018 20:57

I finish on Friday 21st and I’m back in on Thursday 27th. Dh is the same.

Whataboutbobbo · 14/12/2018 20:57

Working through. Just off for the bank holidays.

Ragwort · 14/12/2018 21:11

Bigger - to answer your question, my DH has to take paid leave (out of his annual holiday entitlement) from Christmas to New Year, so about four/five days leave I think, he doesn't want to take it, but has to so loses the option of having annual leave at the time of his choice. It seriously annoys him, he was self employed up until a year ago so chose to take just Christmas Day/Boxing Day off as he would prefer to have leave at a time that suits him.

I honestly think December/January is not a good time of year to have leave - different if you have children off school and want to be with them but not everyone is in that position. I would much rather take my annual leave at a time that suits me, fortunately as I work in retail I get to work and have time off when I want it, not enforced at this time of year.

dancinfeet · 14/12/2018 21:17

I finish on Friday 21st and officially back on sat 5th jan, though I know I will be at work for several other days over the break, just not teaching classes but sorting through costumes ready for my next dance show.

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/12/2018 21:19

I finish on Fri 21st and I go back 7th Jan.

Can't wait! Xmas Grin

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 14/12/2018 21:21

I manage a care home so no break for me. I should be off but I bet people will call in sick and I will have to to in. I am salaried (20k a year for managing plus being on call 24/7) so no extra money for it at all.

speakout · 14/12/2018 21:25

I am self employed and put the brakes on last week. This is potentially my busiest time, but just too much work to cope with.
In previous years I have worked like crazy to keep up with orders, but this year I have decided to do the reverse and shut up shop!!

I can't stop completely, but it will be a trickle rather than a flood.

OH has just finished work today- he is back on the 4th, he has annual leave to use up. So that's a nice easy run up to christmas for us.

TheGhostsOfPresidentsYetToCome · 14/12/2018 21:25

I finish Friday 21st and go back 8th Jan. I really need it. I’m absolutely on my knees after a stupidly busy few months.

Nononononono33 · 14/12/2018 21:26

I am incredibly lucky to be finishing on Friday 21st and not back until 7th Jan. My new job has very generous annual leave (HE) - it is rare that I take two whole weeks off for Christmas. DM was just telling me, though, that she has a week booked off from 7th Jan so I will be envious of that. She is medical so therefore will be working over Christmas, however.

AliTheMinx · 14/12/2018 21:30

I work at a University. We finish on Friday 21st and re-open on Wednesday 2nd January. This is built into our leave and everyone is off. My son broke up from school today, so he'll be in holiday club next week, and he doesn't go back until Monday 7th January. I haven't decided yet how to cover 2-4th January, but am looking forward to a nice break together over Christmas.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/12/2018 21:33

NHS -
I finish next Thursday (20th) , Fri is a N/W day for me , got 24th booked off , back on 27th.

I am working NYE but I like Christmas Eve off.
We have to ensure there's enough staff to cover clinics .
My DC are teens so we don't need to be home.
Roads are a bit quieter (away from town)

Tiredmum100 · 14/12/2018 21:36
