I am ringing about the accident that wasn't your fault!!

I am getting a lot of nuisance calls. They start with "I am ringing about the accident that wasn't your fault?"

I have told them time and again. There was no accident.

Then they say were you ever in an accident...No I wasn't

Then a few days later the same thing again!!

Please tell me how to get rid of them. AIBU to think they have no interest in the truth?

OP posts:
needanappp · 13/12/2018 22:37

Just block the numbers. They won't be able to get through.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/12/2018 22:38

I usually ask "what do you know about the accident I had?"
They usually hang up

HopeGarden · 13/12/2018 22:38

I ask them who they’re calling for. They are never able to give me the name of anyone in our house.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 13/12/2018 22:40

You can have so much fun with them.

Set a timer and tell them about you accident. Leave NOTHING out NOTHING. I got up had breakfast, was cornflakes, no toast it was a Wednesday always toast on Wednesday. Or was it cornflakes anyway I left for work.......
You get the picture m. See how long they take to hang up. You can make a game of it.

Redglitter · 13/12/2018 22:40

My colleague tells them he was fatally injured in the accident. Their script cant cope with that

Lwmommy · 13/12/2018 22:40

Ive had a spate of these, they stopped when i asked them to either provide evidence that i have given permission for them to use my data to contact them as per GDPR regulations or remove me from the database.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/12/2018 22:41

It’s nonsense these companies can do this. I have actually given up having a land line.

We have legislation like GDPR and what is the fucking point?!

YesThisIsMe · 13/12/2018 22:41

I always say “Yes, it was terrible, I died!” and put the phone down. It makes me laugh, and if they’re lying to me I don’t see why I shouldn’t return the favour. The good news is that you’ve only got 18 months before legal processes change to make it no longer worth their while. They’ll move on to something else of course.

IncomingCannonFire · 13/12/2018 22:42

Depending on how much time you have:

  1. Hang up
  2. Don't hang up and leave them stuck on the line for ages.
  3. Wax lyrical about how traumatic the accident was, but it really wasn't an accident because you intended to ram the other vehicle, they cut you up and you have a problem with road rage, and it was definitely your fault, etc.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/12/2018 22:42

Don't answer your phone to a number you don't know. Ever.

Bunbunbunny · 13/12/2018 22:42

I normally say oh thank god no one will take my case as I killed six people. They tend to hang up at that point. Grin

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 13/12/2018 22:43

There are untold thousands of them - too many to block! So I just wind them up by saying, "Oh yes, can you hold on while I find my documents?" Then I leave then waiting there while I get on with my life.

BadgerWithSprouts · 13/12/2018 22:44

What @ThatssomebadhatHarry says

Waste their time and they will not want to call back.

Bananalanacake · 13/12/2018 22:45

I tell them about the time I had diarrhoea in marks and Spencer's underwear department . All over the white underwear and I had to pay for the ones I damaged. Can I claim for that? It's bollocks of course but it gives me a giggle.

Clionba · 13/12/2018 22:47

I just say "it wasn't an accident, I meant to kill him".

YoThePussy · 13/12/2018 22:47

I agree, play with them.

Ooh the accident I was in recently, gosh yes was awful. Terrible injuries, actual amputation, pause for several seconds. Do you know I lost two fingernails and I had only had a manicure the week before.

I can be very irritating and waste a lot of these people’s time. I know they are just doing their job but if they waste time on me some more gullible person is being spared.

Clionba · 13/12/2018 22:49

"I only had a manicure the week before" !! Grin brilliant!

Girlking · 13/12/2018 22:50

Insist they take your phone number off their database

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/12/2018 22:51

Oh god...one rang my 12 yr old Hmm

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 13/12/2018 22:51

You just need some stock responses!

'It was awful. I died.'
'Well, it wasn't so much an accident'
'I was trying to replicate the night bus from Harry Potter - turns out cars don't shrink'
'The voices told me to do it'

I have been told though - never answer the phone to them and they eventually go away. I think by not picking up the call the company marks your number as not responsive (not sure how true that is.)

Dotty1970 · 13/12/2018 22:53

Phone down and block or if you have a young child that isn't easy to understand, give the phone to them... That used to definitely work and kept said child busy

Bagadverts · 13/12/2018 22:54

Had this in the street due to my disability
“Were you in accident in the last three years not your fault?”
“No and by the way you missed the other two legal requirements for a valid claim, what damages I have and it was actually someone else’s fault.”

BrokenWing · 13/12/2018 23:02

Colleague at work had one the other day, he said to them "so they are saying it wasn't my fault? Brilliant thanks for letting me know that means I don't need to go back for sentencing tomorrow. You've made my day!!! Bye". and hung up.

legolimb · 13/12/2018 23:08

Ooh I love these responses. I may have to write them on a piece of paper and stick it next to the phone.

OP - it is annoying. Are you registered with TPS? It doesn't stop all calls though. We still get quite a few and ours is a new number.

Racecardriver · 13/12/2018 23:11

‘Oh yes! It was such a bad accident. I got really badly hurt. I think I’m gonna sue them!’. Wait for them to get through their April to the point where they ask you what injuries you sustained and say something along the lines of ‘three broken ribs, internal bleeding, collapsed lung and, fractured skull resulting in death.’ Just keep repeating it and then say ‘My injuries resulted in death. I’m dead. How much money do you think I can get from them?’
