I am ringing about the accident that wasn't your fault!!

I am getting a lot of nuisance calls. They start with "I am ringing about the accident that wasn't your fault?"

I have told them time and again. There was no accident.

Then they say were you ever in an accident...No I wasn't

Then a few days later the same thing again!!

Please tell me how to get rid of them. AIBU to think they have no interest in the truth?

I usually pass the phone to my son who doesn’t talk very well and really hasn’t mastered the art of conversation.

ladydickisathingapparently · 13/12/2018 23:14

My dad always asks if they’ve felt the love of Jesus in their life Smile

madeyemoodysmum · 13/12/2018 23:15

Oh yes I love this. I act in a crazy dramatic loon way. They soon hang up.

InsomniacAnonymous · 13/12/2018 23:15

arethereanyleftatall "Don't answer your phone to a number you don't know. Ever."

I suspect that's what my mother's friend may be doing. She sent my mother a Christmas card and I want to let her know that my mother is now in a nursing home, but she never answers the phone. Not everybody who phones you from an unknown number is a scammer (just most) Sad

organiseandbrewery · 13/12/2018 23:15

I usually say:

"Oh yes... which one?"

FairytaleOfWigan · 13/12/2018 23:16

I tell them that first I have to take them through our security checks and ask them for the case reference number / incident number / vehicle registration number / date of accident.

Usually they hang up straight away. If not, I tell them that unfortunately without these details I can’t discuss it with them due to data protection rules.

TinselAngel · 13/12/2018 23:17

The only way I've found to get rid of them is to say "yes I made a claim for personal injury and uninsured losses and I agreed it was in full and final settlement"

Bigonesmallone3 · 13/12/2018 23:18

I had these after my partner actually gave out my phone number after a genuine accident we were involved in, we were both fine! But the callers were trying to coax me into lying for a claim
'You only have to of taken paracetamol for 24hrs no one would know if u had or hadn't'
🙄 they did get bored eventually, took about a year but I slowly sussed and blocked all the numbers!

yorkshirecountrylass · 13/12/2018 23:19

Depends on how much time you have and how much they've annoyed you. If in a rush quote GDPR and DPA 2018 - they'll hang up faster than the local laundrette. If you fancy letting them stew put the phone on the side without hanging up - see how long they stick it out. With a bit more time you can really enjoy yourself. "Ooh yes thank you for calling, the funeral director must have passed on my details..." if they don't get that reference you're really in for fun! "Ooh now then are you talking about the accident near the High Street or the shopping centre? I'm so grateful you rang I didn't see how anyone could get me compensation for ramming straight into the back of the stationary fire engine with lights and sirens going while I was drinking my coffee and doing my make up whilst having a chat on my mobile and tuning the radio... you get the picture OP! They waste your time, why not enjoy the entertainment!

VanGoghsDog · 13/12/2018 23:20

Half of them are just AI now so if doesn't matter what you say. Just hang up, better not to answer if you can manage it.

Fromage · 13/12/2018 23:21

Heavy breathing and ask what they're wearing.

Act more and more turned on until you go the full When Harry Met Sally at the mention of representation in court.

Fossie · 13/12/2018 23:27

I started to get a lot of these calls after I was a witness to an accident. I’m quite annoyed that either the police or the insurance company of the poor women I witnessed in the accident had passed my details on to them. How could it be it be anyone else? Surely this is illegal?

littlem133 · 13/12/2018 23:28

Why would the police pass your details on to these companies Hmm

StripyHorse · 13/12/2018 23:29

I ask them to tell me the information they have so I can confirm if correct. I used to have circular calls around this - both repeating ourselves. Now I find they have got wise to time wasters like me and hang up. Then I block that number.

whatalifethisis · 13/12/2018 23:30

I tell them that 'no, it was definitely my fault', most times they get their senior to talk to me and then they hang up on me......very rude!

arethereanyleftatall · 13/12/2018 23:31

@InsomniacAnonymous
I always listen to my voice mails though, and respond if required. These type of calls never leave voicemails.

And, I agree with the pp, before your dcs start getting too old and start talking sense, let them answer the phone to these people. Toddlers can be pretty funny.

caringcarer · 13/12/2018 23:34

Leave phone off hook and walk away. Go back in 5 mins and they are gone.

Kikithewitch · 13/12/2018 23:37

I had an accident a couple of years ago, very slowly in a car park, someone reversed into me, the car was damaged but no injuries.
Within 6 hours of contacting the insurance company I was inundated with called about personal injury.
That was Halifax, we both had the same insurance company ironically, I refuse to use them now.

imamum21 · 13/12/2018 23:39

easy to get rid of them find the nearest kid and say santa is on the phone, i done it and not had any since

Bluesmartiesarebest · 13/12/2018 23:40

‘Oh yes, it was a terrible accident, it left me with a condition that makes me sing all the time. There were 10 green bottles hanging on the wall...’
They always hang up by the second verse and they never call again, which is a shame as I know loads of annoying songs Smile

Saracen · 13/12/2018 23:41

"Which accident? I've been in so many that I can't get insurance anymore!"

AboutThat · 13/12/2018 23:45

The initial call is from a computer, this is so the call handlers don't waste their time ...challenge accepted. If you say yes the computer will ask again to double check then ask you when it was. Only then do you get put through to an actual person and that is where the fun begins. My personal best is getting as far as passengers that were in the car with me, 5 with unusual names and a dog called Rover was a step too far and he hung up again. I'll drop that to 4 and a dog next time I have a spare 20 mins and see if I can get to the next level.

Lozz22 · 13/12/2018 23:46

They either get me holding the phone in front of my Cats mouth whilst saying things like Felix tell the nice man/woman on the phone what you had for you breakfast today. Hold a treat in front of him and he goes miaow, then it's and tell them what you've been doing today, have you been sleeping on Mummy's knee, Cat treat and miaow again. Got called a time waster for that one!! And my new one because there's only so many kitty treats I can give Felix is ' oh you mean the one where my car went over a cliff? Yeah it was awful, my head was decapitated and I nearly died. It's only by the grace of god that I'd happened to call at the shop before my so called accident for some sewing threads and needles so I was able to pick my head back up once I'd finally found it and sew it back on. Only problem is I somehow managed to sew it back to front and now I don't know if I'm coming or going!!

Camsie30 · 13/12/2018 23:47

Love these calls. My usual response is "am I dead?"

CoachBombay · 13/12/2018 23:50

I told the last one "well yes it was an accident, but I don't see why being registered blind should stop me from driving, do you?"

I also told one "ahh yes, it was a dark night, the sea fog was thick, I just didn't see the iceberg in time"

😂
