To think the council should fix this?

My front door and the frame don't join together properly so it's absolutely freezing in my house.
The drafts are so bad.
They have been out today and say nothing they can do.
Can I have your opinion?
Or advice what I can do please?
It's so cold

It's perfectly normal.
What are you going to do about it?

Bombardier25966 · 11/12/2018 18:58

Just buy a curtain.

If you can't afford one, then find your closest furniture project and they'll find you one. They might even have a rail too.

beetty · 11/12/2018 18:58

How can it be fit for purpose when
1.it doesn't shut correctly
2.there are significant gaps which are causing significant drafts

Oddsocksandmeatballs Do you own your property? if not you should report your door, its against fire regulations that you dont have a fit for purpose door.

ForalltheSaints · 11/12/2018 18:59

Get a door curtain. Wear warm clothes not something from Primark.

beetty · 11/12/2018 18:59

I've just made another repair request online and stated again the problem.
Il keep doing it till the fix the problem.
Fed up with being fobbed off

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 18:59

It does shut. There are gaps because ITS A DOOR!!

beetty · 11/12/2018 19:00

I could be head to toe in Gucci and it would still feel like the North Pole.

What @HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend said is my experience of social housing.

They were very happy to leave dangerous defects until I got environmental health involved. My boiler ended up condemned and we went weeks without in winter (after they'd left us with the dangerous boiler for years).

The carbon monoxide could have killed us.

Did they give a fuck? Not a single one.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 11/12/2018 19:01

Its a wooden door, for the door to fit the frame it has to have gaps, what are you not understanding here OP? the door locks and is secure, buy a curtain issue solved!

Wetdressinggownsleeve · 11/12/2018 19:02

It's. Not. The. Door. Put a curtain up, stop whining and put in a request for some decent windows and a new boiler.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 11/12/2018 19:02

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend - No, we are tenants. To be honest we just use the kitchen door instead, I will mention it to the letting agent next time she is here though so thank you.

beetty · 11/12/2018 19:02

What are you not understanding?
I'm aware it has to have gaps....I'm saying the gap at the top is clearly larger than it should be ...hence the drafts coming through

gamerwidow · 11/12/2018 19:03

When we had a wooden door it had gaps I’ll that and was really drafty too. It does make your house cold but it’s the way wooden doors are.

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 19:03

So fix it yourself like everyone else does!!

beetty · 11/12/2018 19:03

I don't want to put a curtain up..
I want the council to actually do the job they should be doing and fixing things that need fixing
Like I said previous ...god forbid I miss the rent.

OP posts:
beetty · 11/12/2018 19:04

I shouldn't have to fix it myself ...
One of the only good things of council properties Is the fact they should maintain the properties

OP posts:
dippledorus · 11/12/2018 19:06

Why wouldn’t you put up a curtain and sort the problem? Charity shops often have curtains cheap

Extrastout · 11/12/2018 19:06

Woman, stop obsessing about the goddamned door. Lol. Put a fleece on and a dressing gown. You'll be grand.

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 19:06

It’s a minor, minor repair. You can’t possibly expect the council to run out and fix everyday issues for you?

Wetdressinggownsleeve · 11/12/2018 19:07

Okay, whatever. I think your on a wind up now tbh, trying to stir up some trouble by making council tenants look like entitled moany dicks.

Lazypuppy · 11/12/2018 19:07

OP: AIBU
everyone: YES
OP: no i'm not, it'a not fair, bla bla bla

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 11/12/2018 19:08

Wooden doors don't have the same size gap all the way round. Mine all have a much bigger gap st the top too.

My house is also pretty expensive to heat and generally cold; but that's because it's an old house with wooden doors and poor insulation, nothing else.

beetty · 11/12/2018 19:08

I'm not entitled ,I'm just fed up of one thing after the other in here.
I have a pre payment gas meter and it's costing a fortune because I need the gas on all the time otherwise it is freezing.
There's no door from the hall to the living room so I can't even keep that room warm.

OP posts:
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 11/12/2018 19:08

Oddsocksandmeatballs even to your landlord/letting agency, if they dont help resolve the issue, give me a shout, I've a few key phrases that will put the shit into them!

OP, ask for an inspector, your wasting the joiners time, but seeing the door, your wasting the inspectors time, you might not want to help yourself, but the council isn't going to renew a door when its fit for purpose. FACT!
