To think the council should fix this?

My front door and the frame don't join together properly so it's absolutely freezing in my house.
The drafts are so bad.
They have been out today and say nothing they can do.
Can I have your opinion?
Or advice what I can do please?
It's so cold

I think maybe I'm used to the pvc door why this door is feeling a lot colder.
I've never been in a property with wooden doors,I didn't realise they needed any gap.

Do you mean the gap between the door and the door frame? Because that looks completely normal. Without a gap the door wouldn't open.

Or do you mean the gap between the frame and the wall in the second picture? You can fill that yourself quite easily.

Get a door curtain. We have one and you can feel the difference when it's open or closed.

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:28

In real life the gap does look much bigger along the top.
It does look like a poor fitting door to me.

As others have said - get a roll of draught excluding tape and whack it round the frame. I can't believe you actually got them to send out a tradesman for that to be honest.

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 16:30

It doesn’t look poorly fitted. There has to be a natural gap for the good to open.

SaucyJack · 11/12/2018 16:34

“It does look like a poor fitting door to me.”

Possibly it could be on better, but that doesn’t mean the council will replace it before time.

They tend to do improvements on a rolling programme, so you won’t get a new one just for asking. That’s just the way it is.

Notquiteagandt · 11/12/2018 16:36

Surely that gao is the width of the hinges? So it opens? Hard to tell from a photo. But it really doesnt look any differant to any wooden door ive seen. I have always lived in period properties though.

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:36

If you could feel how freezing it was
You would understand why

OP posts:
beetty · 11/12/2018 16:37

At the top of the door there's a big space where the door isn't aligned properly

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 16:38

Post a photo of that gap?

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:38

From the bottom of the door up is a tiny gap,you get further to the top the gap becomes wider

OP posts:
beetty · 11/12/2018 16:39

I'm not at home now or I would do.

Confusedbeetle · 11/12/2018 16:39

I would hang a curtain pole and put a heavy fabric curtain over it. You will never fully exclude draughts round a door unless you have a plastic one. A good heavy curtain would look better too. Years ago you never saw a door without one

italiancortado · 11/12/2018 16:39

Looks totally normal to me

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 16:41

I don’t understand why your whole house is so cold because of that gap? As I pass my doors I can feel the draught and the cold but the rest of the house is fine.

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:41

If you look at first pic the gap clearly gets wider the closer it gets to the top of door

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:43

It's a weird set up
You come through front door and there's the stairs.
You go upstairs and there's the hall with the living room, bedroom etc
So really a flat I guess
I say house as I have private gardens etc

OP posts:
Sirzy · 11/12/2018 16:44

Well you have been given lots of options here to fix it so hopefully that’s problem solved!

Nicknacky · 11/12/2018 16:45

No window, room, door frame is perfectly finished to the millimetre and yes, sometimes there will be a marginal difference, that’s normal.

Ok, I don’t understand why your flat is so cold then!

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:46

Just a shame the council don't seem to want to maintain own property's
Be on the phone sharp enough if I paid my rent late tho.

OP posts:
beetty · 11/12/2018 16:47

It shouldn't be so cold your shivering tho surely
Heating on full

Absolutely nothing weird about that. It's a pretty standard set up for a flat!

beetty · 11/12/2018 16:48

So all of you would be happy to have your front door like that?
I've never ever known a door with gaps like that

Perhaps move to the private sector? Or buy?

It looks normal 🤷🏻‍♀️
