Mrs May. Who's going to replace her as PM?

longwayoff · 11/12/2018 08:51

After her performance yesterday it's simply a matter of time? Or is it? Who is fit to replace her? I can't think of a time when there was nobody I'd entrust the country to by voting for them but now here we are. What on earth is going to happen?

Raab is pretty sexy though.

NotAColdWomanHenry · 11/12/2018 13:45

Eeeeeeeeeeeewwww

Keir Starmer though, I would... not to mention David Miliband!

Johnnycomelately1 · 11/12/2018 13:47

Starmer would have to oust Jez first though which would be totes awks. He’ll have to wait until Jez either (1) fails to win the GE or (2) wins but then alienated everyone and gets no confidenced.

Witchend · 11/12/2018 13:47

I think anyone that wants to be PM would have to not have enough knowledge about the situation.
Therefore I propose the first selection criteria for anyone applying would be the question:
"Would you like to be PM at the moment?"
If they answer "yes", then immediately cross them off as a possibility.

@DarlingNikita He was already the Tory it was OK to like because he was a regular guest on Have I Got News For You. And, to be fair, he was quite witty when he was basically a comedian. He was a lack lustre mayor who revealed himself to be too enamoured by vanity projects and uninterested in the nitty gritty and hard work. He then completely burnt his bridges in June 2016 by associating himself with that ridiculous bus. Very poor judgment for someone with leadership ambitions. The grassroots Tories I know loath him. I really can't see him ever being PM.

Genevieva · 11/12/2018 13:50

@Witchend I like that approach. It has something of Plato's reluctant Philosopher King approach to it. Sufficiently wise not to desire the job.

Deadbudgie · 11/12/2018 13:51

Keir Starmer is 25/1 same as amber Rudd!

brizzledrizzle · 11/12/2018 13:51

Sajid would probably get on well with Corbyn.

longwayoff · 11/12/2018 13:56

Budgie thats a, great idea, better even than the Redknapps.

Nonetheless, overall he is a favourite of the grassroots.
And being Mayor of London elevated him above HIGNFY status.

PollyFlinderz · 11/12/2018 14:02

Yet had a man referred to her in that way there would be hell to pay on these pages, you're not wanting her referred to as Mrs May and yet you find that word acceptable!! Says an awful lot about many of the people on this site.

I think your confused. I haven’t commented on her being referred to as Mrs May and I reported the post referring to her as a C* not long after it was made.

RustyBear · 11/12/2018 14:02

I sometimes wonder if John Redwood might want to have another go. A ‘compromise candidate’? (See Yes Minister, Party Games)

howabout · 11/12/2018 14:19

Hi Surfer Nice to see you joining in the spirit but you've made me feel ancient. Dominic is far too young and innocent looking for me Grin

longwayoff · 11/12/2018 14:32

Nb. Bozza still needs to account for £34,000,000 mislaid whilst fiddling around with the non-existent garden bridge. Just a trifle . . .

Andy Burnham! I heard him on the BBC news today and he was so keen to relate every Brexit comment back to Manchester, it kind of felt like he was trying to lay down a bit of plausible deniability for the moment that he sweeps in and saves the Labour party. What, me? No I'm really busy over here with Manchester. No, really... oh alright go on then seeing as you asked nicely I suppose I will be the next Labour leader, thanks.

Butterymuffin · 11/12/2018 14:46

Clearly time for Larry the cat to step in. He's outlasted Cameron already.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/12/2018 15:46

Actually that's not a bad idea ... someone experienced in getting rid of unwanted vermin might be just the thing Wink

londonrach · 11/12/2018 15:48

There is no one is any policital parties at the moment suitable to be pm. This is the first time ive felt like this. Its like a vacuum. At a time when we really need a strong leader!

londonrach · 11/12/2018 15:49

Although larry the cat is a vvvvvv good idea!

TheMadGardener · 11/12/2018 16:06

DH and I have never been Tory supporters but even we have started feeling sorry for TM. As someone else said, it must be crap being attacked from all sides every single day when it's absolutely impossible to find a deal that half of the UK won't hate. Most of the other Tories are happy to jeer and criticise but they don't really want her job at the moment because they know how impossible it is.

Not only is the Tory party in a shambles but there is no effective opposition as half of the Labour party still hate Corbyn.

I felt so angry yesterday watching the scenes in Parliament. A rabble of rich MPs shouting and jeering and trying to score points off each other like it's a game. This is a serious issue affecting lives and jobs of ordinary people who aren't as rich as most MPs. Business owners everywhere are saying they just want some certainty now. They should be working together to sort it out for the sake of the nation, not bloody laughing and trying to score points off each other. Parliament is a disgrace.

For what it's worth, I voted Leave and DH voted Remain, and we both think the whole situation is now a shambles.

brizzledrizzle · 11/12/2018 16:29

Interesting debates in your house then? Grin

Much better that way than being one of those couples who automatically vote the same. When I turned 18 I was informed by my parents that 'In this family we all vote for .....' - errrm, no we don't Grin

Holidayshopping · 11/12/2018 16:32

Wow, really?!

What did he say when you told him you weren’t playing ball?!

Talkinpeece · 11/12/2018 16:41

In the real world
Keir Starmer

in an ideal world
we would have electoral reform, bring in PR, let both the Tory and Labour parties split
and have a centrist coalition

Talkinpeece · 11/12/2018 16:42

ooh,
I just thought of a Tory I could support

Ken Clarke
the only one brave enough to vote against invoking A50

SockQueen · 11/12/2018 16:45

Jeremy Hunt is keeping very quiet at the moment, getting on with Foreign Secretary-ing and avoiding the Brexit shit storm as much as he can. Wonder if he's carefully positioning himself to step in once all the other egomaniacs have ballsed it up...
