Baby names

Hello I'm pregnant with DC3, and me and DH have started speaking about names. I love the name Eddie for a girl but can't think of a longer version for the full name. Family hate this name as its a boys name. Do you think its a bad choice?

Also please could I have suggestions on names like Eddie, Tori (full name Victoria), and Margot (full name Margret).

This reminds me of that episode of friends where Ross and Rachel are trying to choose a name for their baby. ‘I like James. But only if it’s a girl.’

Buggeroffbingbunny · 08/12/2018 16:17

How about Teddy as a NN for Theadora?

BJacks86 · 08/12/2018 16:18

Is now the wrong time to confirm that I desperately wanted DD2 to be called James but DH said no...

Also a big fan of Frankie, Stevie and Noah for girls.

I just like boys names for girls and old people names.

Thank god for your husband

Iknowthatguy

Thank god for your husband

This^^

QueenofmyPrinces · 08/12/2018 16:24

Frankie and Stevie are nice names on girls, I wouldn’t particularly find that anything unusual.

But James, Noah and Eddie for a girl?

Thank God your husband has got some sense.....

nancybelle · 08/12/2018 16:24

What about Meredith shortened to Eddie?

MamaDane · 08/12/2018 16:27

In Denmark girls can be called Noah but it's spelled Noa.

Rattail · 08/12/2018 16:30

James? A bit cruel i think. The poor child at school. You know children can be cruel

BJacks86 · 08/12/2018 16:31

I daren't share my list of boys names, obviously in a minority thinking times are changing and you can name kids opposite gender/gender neutral names.

OP posts:
Stringofpearls · 08/12/2018 16:33

Meredith could perhaps have Eddie as a shortening?

MaMaMaMySharona · 08/12/2018 16:35

I think Eddie and James are lovely names for girls! If you want a full name, I like Edina or Edith. I’d love to have been called Jamie Smile

IACGMOOH · 08/12/2018 16:38

My wedding dress is called Edie so I don't think that's boyish
But Margot is a name, it's not short for Margret Confused

ClaryFray · 08/12/2018 16:52

Have another after and call her patsy! Please....

BJacks86 · 08/12/2018 16:55

Meredith could be a good option :)

And thank you MaMaMaMySharona thats what I always think!

Don't worry my daughter is just called Margot just mentioned Margaret as an illustration.

ClaryFray Shockingly don't think many of my kids friends are going to be familiar with Ab-fab.

Maybe Patrick though?

@IACGMOOH Eddie and Edie are different though. Edie is pronounced eedee and is a women's name. Eddie is eh-dee and is a mans name. Also a dress isn't a child so weird comparison

Upanddownandroundagain · 08/12/2018 17:02

I absolutely love boys names for girls - Robyn etc. I love Eddie for a girl. Eddi Reader is apparently short for Sadenia. Would you call her something so her initials are E and D and then call her Eddie? I love it though!

Topseyt · 08/12/2018 17:04

Eddie is a boy's name to me. As are Noah, Stevie and James. Don't spell it Eddy either. That means a type of whirlpool.

Don't. Your husband is right.

Georgie might not be too bad if you must be unisex, but not my style.

EnglishRose13 · 08/12/2018 17:32

What about Sequoia?

winterhappiness · 08/12/2018 17:34

@BJacks86 I actually love your ideas! I too am a big fan of boy names for girls! And I think Eddie is great!!! But I think I agree, I would probably use a longer name on the birth very !

But hey, go for it! It's a lovely name! And she will totally own the name anyways!

Birdsgottafly · 08/12/2018 17:49

Iknowthatguy, Margret is a perfectly acceptable spelling.

Davina? And call her Dave. Nigella, but go for Nigel? Billy can be short for loads of names, so can Jo. Alexandria=Alex Roberta =Bobby, or Rob, if you really want a talking point.

Why didn't you just rename yourself?

As said, thank god for your DH.

Charlie, George, Sam, Harry, Frank ie, Tom, Ollie, Max, Henry, Jack, Lee, Vic, Paul, Toni, Chris, Danni, Andi, Bertie, Ray, Lesley, Bernie, Phil, Pat, Matty, Ronnie, Monty, Kit, Lou.

She won't thank you though.

snowone · 08/12/2018 17:54

OP my current top name for my DD2 is Noa! I don't understand why people need to be so rude. I quite like Eddie and if you do then use it. The only thing I can think of it being short for is Edith or Edwina though. Good luck!!

CatWars · 08/12/2018 18:00

There is a female version of James in Scotland 'Jamesina'. It's pronounced jam-ess-eye-na and get's shortened to 'Ina', pronounced 'eye-na'. I think it's ugly, mind you, though not as ugly as Eddie for a girl. Edina is quite nice, and the person who was making up names that could be shortened to Eddie should button their lip.

Itsear · 08/12/2018 18:01

If you want her to be called Eddie pronounced Eedee just call her the girls name Edie. Much better than the awful Eddie/Ed/Edith.
