Hello I'm pregnant with DC3, and me and DH have started speaking about names. I love the name Eddie for a girl but can't think of a longer version for the full name. Family hate this name as its a boys name. Do you think its a bad choice?

Also please could I have suggestions on names like Eddie, Tori (full name Victoria), and Margot (full name Margret).

Edith? Edwina?

I really, really wouldn't call a girl Eddie. It could be short for Edwina. I like Edie for Edith though.

Also I would say Margot is a name in its own right, not a shortened version of Margaret.

Honestly? I think it's a ridiculous name for a girl. On paper, people will always presume she is male.

I love Eddie for a girl. I really like unisex names. Same for Frankie and Quinn.

But Edie is more feminine.

Eddie is short for Edina in Ab Fab.

Eddie is short for Edward. Edie is a name in itself but can be short for Edith or Edwina.

Why not just call her something completely out-there and go with Graham?

I really like Eddie, the way it would be pronounced if you shortened Edward. Don't like Edie anywhere near as much.

One of my daughters is named Margot, decided to just go for Margot on the birth certificate. However with Eddie would go for a longer name, the same with Victoria to Tori for DD2 as doesn't necessarily feel like a full name in its own right.

Edina or Edwina. That's all I got.

Eddie/eddy is a boys name op. There's so many beautiful girls names, why choose a mediocre boys name?

Is it worth commiting her to a lifetime of correcting confused people? People will either make errors assuming that she's male or manually "correct" to a version like Edie/ Eadie when pronoucing it.

Etta, Aida, Agnes and Ingrid are fine. Ingrid is probably most distinctive due the popularity of a range of names like Ella, Ellie, Ava etc which tend to be quite short with a high vowel to consonant ratio, and starting and ending with a vowel.
