To put butter on my crackers (with cheese)?

I've just made myself a late night snack of assorted crackers, lots of salted butter and slices of crumbly extra mature cheddar.

DH said I've completely ruined it by adding butter and said (in a loving way) that I have lost the plot!

AIBU? It's the way I've always done it and when my dad packed my school lunches I remember fondly he would from time to time put a thick slab of cheddar in between two Jacobs crackers with butter on both - as if the cracker were the bread in a heavenly sort of cheese sandwich - and wrap it up in cling film as a treat.

Of course there should be butter!

FannyAndMoonFace · 06/12/2018 22:39

Thank goodness for that!

of course there should be butter the creamy saltiness compliments the cheese and helps the cheese stay on the cracker, except ritz they should be eaten like crisps as in on their own no cheese

DramaAlpaca · 06/12/2018 22:41

Of course you need butter! Madness not to. You need butter so the cheese doesn't fall off the crackers Grin

Nothininmenoggin · 06/12/2018 22:41

Defo butter. Husband doesn't know what he is missingSmile

YoThePussy · 06/12/2018 22:42

Of course you are right OP.

YAVU for making me crave a large plate of assorted crackers with butter and shitloads of yummy cheese.

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2018 22:43

Definitely butter! Stops the cheese sliding around for a start.

YoThePussy · 06/12/2018 22:43

Oh bloody hell, I want Ritz crackers now too.

E20mom · 06/12/2018 22:43

That's exactly what I ate for my dinner just now. It would have been completely rubbish without butter.

BMW6 · 06/12/2018 22:43

Is he fucking crazy? If you don't butter the crackers the cheese just falls off!
Does he make sarnies without butter or similar on the bread? Same thing.

LTB. He is psycho.

Bodear · 06/12/2018 22:43

LTB. Obviously

LordNibbler · 06/12/2018 22:44

Lots of lovely butter, there's nothing like it.

SleepingBooty · 06/12/2018 22:44

Defo butter otherwise you'd be 'fair clagged'. In other words it'd be dry and require lots of water.

chemenger · 06/12/2018 22:46

Yes to butter. I really want a cream cracker with salted butter, strong cheddar and Branson pickle now. Unfortunately I’m in the US where nearly all of that is either unobtainable or extortionately expensive. Crackers here are tiny.

vampirethriller · 06/12/2018 22:48

There has to be butter.

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 06/12/2018 22:48

I’m with your husband, sorry.

TwoIsQuiteEnoughThankYou · 06/12/2018 22:49

Dear Sweet Mother of God - crackers and cheese without butter? Utter lunacy.

MrsTommyBanks · 06/12/2018 22:50

Always butter. Your DH is a weirdo.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/12/2018 23:06

Deffo butter. And also Aldi Caramelised Red Onion chutney.

FannyAndMoonFace · 06/12/2018 23:07

I've packed my bags and I'm about to LTB, I'm taking the butter with me.

BeanBagLady · 06/12/2018 23:08

He’s right: you’ve lost the plot.

But as long as you enjoyed it there’s nothing wrong with that.

GrungeSponge · 06/12/2018 23:08

Yep defo butter. Although my husband has been known to make me a sandwich without butter before....cats bum face does not cover it!

Oysterbabe · 06/12/2018 23:09

Most things are improved with the addition of butter.

ASliceOfLife · 06/12/2018 23:11

I normally don't butter but I am fancying it next time.

Sweetooth92 · 06/12/2018 23:11

Butter. Then squish the cheese down and lick the excess through the teeny cracker holes. Did this as a kid and still have too 😳
