To put butter on my crackers (with cheese)?

I've just made myself a late night snack of assorted crackers, lots of salted butter and slices of crumbly extra mature cheddar.

DH said I've completely ruined it by adding butter and said (in a loving way) that I have lost the plot!

AIBU? It's the way I've always done it and when my dad packed my school lunches I remember fondly he would from time to time put a thick slab of cheddar in between two Jacobs crackers with butter on both - as if the cracker were the bread in a heavenly sort of cheese sandwich - and wrap it up in cling film as a treat.

No no no no, cheese n crackers do not need butter!

UrsulaPandress · 06/12/2018 23:13

Butter, salty as possible, is essential. Unless you are having Dairylea.

duckthisshit · 06/12/2018 23:14

There absolutely needs to be butter to stick the cheese on!

keepingbees · 06/12/2018 23:15

Yanbu. In fact I quite like a buttered Jacobs cream cracker without the cheese...

FannyAndMoonFace · 06/12/2018 23:15

Yes yes to the butter coming through the tiny holes Grin

Omg of course butter!! Cheese and crackers with butter on is what I'm looking forward to most about xmas!

seventhgonickname · 06/12/2018 23:16

Butter is essential. You need it to stick the cheese on and to stop a really crisp and crumbly cracker going everywhere.
It is also too dry without the butter and the combination is out of this world.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/12/2018 23:20

Not only do I have butter with my cheese and crackers I quite often add marmite as well.

Leeds2 · 06/12/2018 23:20

I wouldn't add butter, no.

But I used to!

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 06/12/2018 23:21

yanbu, crackerwheats with butter and salt are to die for. Also partial to a buttered jacobs.

SpoonBlender · 06/12/2018 23:22

I'm not allowed butter any more. But butter! Got to have butter on your crackers and cheese.

SleightOfMind · 06/12/2018 23:26

Cheese is a special foodstuff and there are rituals.
I shudder to think of someone eating unmelted cheese without butter.

He’s a fucking heathen Farawaytreelady
Re-educate or run.

BoswellandAndAndyForshort · 06/12/2018 23:30

Butter with cheese and crackers? I’m sorry what? Why are people agreeing, what sort of twilight zone have I entered, scary perverted people.

Are you the type of sickos who have butter in sandwiches?

Davros · 06/12/2018 23:37

Butter makes everything taste better

SpoonBlender · 06/12/2018 23:47

Boswell I think paying close attention to that "riddle" has addled your mind. You're clearly not thinking straight.

eddiemairswife · 06/12/2018 23:50

As a child I called cream crackers 'butter biscuits', because that is how I had them.

e1y1 · 06/12/2018 23:51

I know bad form, but have you seen the other thread with butter war- discussion happening on AIBU 🤣

But yes, crackers need butter, only exception is if having them with peanut butter (of course)

FannyAndMoonFace · 06/12/2018 23:52

There's another butter AIBU!? Blush

It depends. Does he think butter on the crackers is weird or frivolous. If it's the latter definitely ltb.

My exh believed heating up ready brek was frivolous.

NoSquirrels · 06/12/2018 23:53

LTB = Love The Butter

I’m with you on the Jacobs crackers & Cheddar = butter essential

Whereas Digestives & Cheddar = no butter, but I’d love apple slices, please.

Soft cheeses require no butter (always agog at the people who butter cream cheese sandwiches, for instance!) and some crackers go better with some cheeses.

But your DH is just missing out, basically.

StableGenius · 06/12/2018 23:56

Christmas 1978

My mum was ill in bed. My dad, entrusted with Christmas lunch, gave me and my brother a plate of Ryvita with cheddar. No butter.

It was like trying to swallow a slab of fatty grit. Thank God I had the Grease album to compensate.

You need butter.

eddiemairswife · 06/12/2018 23:56

I grew up during butter rationing. It is now the absolute everyday luxury.

EdWinchester · 06/12/2018 23:59

I’m with your dh.

Butter? If you have a cheese board, do you ask for butter?

JustABetterPlayer · 07/12/2018 00:00

Butter + Smoked Salmon + Blue cheese 👍

But..... it has to be the hovis digestive biscuits, crackers are a poor substitute.

FannyAndMoonFace · 07/12/2018 00:04

@EdWinchester if that cheese board includes crackers then yes, yes I do!
