To put butter on my crackers (with cheese)?

I've just made myself a late night snack of assorted crackers, lots of salted butter and slices of crumbly extra mature cheddar.

DH said I've completely ruined it by adding butter and said (in a loving way) that I have lost the plot!

AIBU? It's the way I've always done it and when my dad packed my school lunches I remember fondly he would from time to time put a thick slab of cheddar in between two Jacobs crackers with butter on both - as if the cracker were the bread in a heavenly sort of cheese sandwich - and wrap it up in cling film as a treat.

Cream crackers and butter are delicious.
I miss them - don’t get them in Sweden and the English shops charge like 4x the price 😭

What?

holasoydora · 07/12/2018 00:20

I was only telling someone today that my all time favourite snack memory is Jacob’s crackers with butter (tho it was probably flora) and mountains of grated cheese.

JaneJeffer · 07/12/2018 00:23

Add a bit of marmalade too. Yum.

Feliciaxxx · 07/12/2018 00:23

Also butter on scones with jam and then cream!

Crimebustersofthesea · 07/12/2018 00:23

Of course you should have butter. That's what the little holes are for, so it squidges out like little worms. Which is far more appetising than it sounds.

greenritta · 07/12/2018 00:26

Why ruin good cheese with butter? All that greasy stuff will only coat your mouth and prevent the good cheesy taste to reach your tastebuds!

YANBU but IMO it depends on the cracker - some need butter more than others!

I am always a bit sad when someone serves me cheese and biscuits with no butter.

Betsy86 · 07/12/2018 01:13

Butter is a must!!!!!

Strokethefurrywall · 07/12/2018 03:05

Always with butter. New Year's Eve dinner is always 2 bottles of pink Montmartre champagne a block of pepper jack, some warm Camembert, some Boursin and a fuck ton of crackers and butter.

So it's a crying shame I don't eat dairy anymore.

Mmm late night snack cheese on water biscuits. Best thing I have had all day. Tempted to add a dollop of Branston pickle.

AJ1425 · 04/10/2020 22:32

No butter but there should be a chutney and ideally a lid. If you're wanting butter on crackers it should just be butter and cracker and nothing else.

ZeldaFighter · 04/10/2020 22:46

Me and DH have just had buttered crackers and cheese. We don't always butter as just sometimes cba but I wanted to do it properly tonight :-)

nocoolnamesleft · 04/10/2020 22:48

Butter if hard cheese. No butter if soft cheese. Semi soft cheese could go either way.

CoRhona · 04/10/2020 22:49

Always butter. If I hadn't just had some your thread would have made me want some Wink

HandsDownRoundTheTown · 04/10/2020 23:29

Butter. Wensleydale. Bliss.
