AIBU to be glad Chris Evans is leaving

Getting fed up of him promoting his mates/people who scratch his back. He lives in a world where everyone is middle class and wealthy with young kids and this is who he broadcasts to. Yes, I know I can turn him off and will do so - the Noel Edmonds back-slapping and promotion interview has just pushed me over the edge!

Bollocks thanks for the reminder - must do mine

nevermorelenore · 06/12/2018 12:19

Sarah Jarvis has a very clacky mouth - you know, when someone sort of makes a wet sound every time they speak. It's very radio-unfriendly and off-putting.

Is that what that sound is called? I have misophonia and that noise is like nails on a blackboard to me. I’ve often had to switch off podcasts because I can hear that saliva swishing noise!

I’m glad Chris Evans is leaving too. Smug and laddish. Car Fest is particularly annoying. Especially when people pay thousands to buy VIP experience and hang out with CE and his mates. Who are these saddos with 10k spare to buy this shit?

Westwing1 · 06/12/2018 12:29

I liked CE for a long time (GLR radio breakfast programme in the 80s I think it was) but the last year I've had enough. Too much relentless positivity and little sappy lectures on how we should all cherish the moment, each other blah blah. I realise I am in the minority here but I like Steve Wright and Liza Tarbuck (got to be in the mood for her but I like she is doing her own thing).

WindyWednesday · 06/12/2018 12:41

I’ve been a fan of CE for years. Since the days of his Sunday afternoon slot on a radio station I can’t remember. But his show was called “Too much gravy”. Early 90’s late 80’s.

But now I can’t cope with him at all. He’s lost the charm he had.

thepotato · 06/12/2018 12:47

Sarah Cox is my favourite. She's very funny and doesn't talk for too long in between songs.

Heatherjayne1972 · 06/12/2018 12:56

Sarah cox is fantastic I was really hoping she would get the breakfast show
Ce has gone all Earth father mr positivity lecturing us about his perfect life. ( we ‘d all have a fabulous life with his sort of money) And when he rambles to fill the air time it’s just cringe worthy
That’s when he’s not all shouty

Hope Zoe ball is a marked improvement

Mrscaindingle · 06/12/2018 13:03

I was just thinking exactly this when I listened for the first time in ages this morning...he really irritates me by saying we all just have to try a bit harder and then we can be as happy as him. I switched him off one morning in the 90's as well when my alarm went off to him gloating about getting Fridays off...something along the lines of all you poor saps having to work 5 days etc. Don't hold out much hope for Zoe she has an annoying habit of gasping in when she's talking.

I really miss Terry and am now losing Simon Mayo, don't have much reason to put radio 2 on anymore...but find radio 4 a bit boring to listen to all the time.

EdinaMonsoon · 06/12/2018 13:16

CE has moments of brilliance and can be entertaining but I can't abide when he drones on & on & on about one subject for the entire show. Like the golf, for example. Or something he has done with his kids the day before and he harks on til the end of the show about something that was a 4 minute slot at best.

Sara Cox would have been a much better replacement than ZB. I like Zoe but I much prefer Sara's quieter style of presenting. Naturally funny & sharp but not shouty.

Steve Wright I don't mind but agree his show has never moved on from the 80's really. Don't really like his occasional replacements either - Craig Charles is great doing what he does but doesn't work for afternoons. Jonathan Ross was pretty good when he has covered though.

I LOVE Jo Whiley (I know I am seemingly in the MN minority with this). Although she & Simon were a tad awkward to begin with, I think they have at last settled into their groove and I really enjoy their banter - they have a sibling-like rapport: Jo the cooler sister and Simon the slightly more reserved but with a great dry sense of humour and they do poke fun at each other. I'm gutted that the show is coming to an end.

Sarcelle · 06/12/2018 14:11

The Dr Jarvis clacky mouth sound gives me the rage. I also have misophonia!

Cannot abide CE. Odd superannuated teenager schtick was annoying years ago, why is he still doing it. You can tell a lot from a man's mates - Paul Hollywood and James Martin. The arrogance drips off all three of them.

ZB is also pretending to be a shouty teenager. All that gush, she loves everybody according to her. Love him, love that....amazed she got the breakfast job. Sara Cox would be a better choice.

I would also like Graham Norton to retire. When his waspish mate Maria McSomethingorother get together they exclude the audience and his demented seal laugh sounds as false as Jimmy Carr's. The Sat morning show should be Alan Carr and Mel Sykes.

Oh my god Dr Jarvis’s clacky mouth, I thought that I was the only one to get annoyed by it!

I have found my people.

I love Dermot & Graham Norton on a Saturday & Sara Cox is great. Will miss Simon Mayo. Chris Evans is a total knob tho!

Westwing1 · 06/12/2018 15:15

Graham on Saturday makes me laugh, I like that sometimes he finds starting the show a bit of a grind, has a little sarcastic moan and then warms up to the world. He makes my DH laugh too and my DH loves Maria!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 06/12/2018 15:22

Simon Mayo is going off to films and scriptwriting and his book doings, and i think Jo Whiley thought fuckit, I'm off back to my early evening slot

I was disappointed that Sara Cox didn't get the breakfast show, but cannot wait to hear her on the Drivetime, she will be ace! I really like her evening show, but hear barely any of it as I fall asleep so quickly!

I loathe Evans with every fibre of my being, he is an oafish, knowitall, showoff, look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, name dropping idiot, it's one thing I will hold against Terry Wogan for ever, that he gave his show to that loser.

Aurea · 06/12/2018 15:23

Ok. A bit weird. No applicants from Trinity (Oxford) for Law have been called to interview at other colleges. Can anyone shed some light on what this means? Thanks!

Aurea · 06/12/2018 15:24

Sorry. Please ignore my post. Posted on wrong board. X

The80sweregreat · 06/12/2018 17:12

I agree about clacky mouthed doc with Jeremy vine. Her voice is a bit odd.
She knows her stuff though!

ConcreteUnderpants · 06/12/2018 17:54

i miss Terry, he spoke to two people, you and the other listener. You felt part of the show

Absolutely love, Inflagrante. You could tell they were all really good friends with genuine affection for each other.

Riotingbananas · 06/12/2018 18:16

If you liked Terry Wogan, do give Danny Baker's show a go, it's got a slightly similar vibe.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 06/12/2018 18:30

I’m a radio tart, weekday mornings I flit between CE, Radio X, Absolute & my local station. Can’t take too long of any of them really.

Love Ken Bruce. And Liza Tarbuck. Both great in their own space in their own ways. And I don’t catch her very often, but when I do I always enjoy Sara Cox, seems a genuinely warm n funny person.

Zoe Ball. Eugh. Surely not everything is that lovely and wonderful and exciting and gasp-inducing. Geez, calm down.

Saturday morning though has to be Frank Skinner on Absolute. Laugh out loud funny.

noideaatallreally · 06/12/2018 18:31

I didn't mind CE at first, but the last few weeks it seems he has 'read a book' and now is a total expert on mental health. No Chris, you cannot just wish away problems by not thinking about them on a Wednesday. the problems for many, many people are real, urgent and will not just go away. You have no idea what life is like for people outside your very clicky, wealthy set. Don't patronise people you don't know.

I will miss Simon Mayo. I still miss Terry.

ForalltheSaints · 06/12/2018 18:34

Even when you take into account that no-one will ever replace Terry Wogan, Chris Evans has gone well past his sell by-date. I know many people have spent today living in the 1990s thanks to O2 but that is where Chris Evans' style of presenting belongs.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/12/2018 18:47

Just remembered another I like, Paul O'Grady on a Sunday. Genuinely laugh out loud at that!
