Hi mumsnetters. Hoping you can help me here.

My friend Bos asked me to pop to the post office for him. No problem I said. Always glad to help. But when I got there I found him already loitering and, wait for this, he walked up the post office steps!

AIBU?

Confused

Aw god I was just contemplating going to check the second thread and thought no drogo, have some self control and let it go yet here I am!

LittleRen · 07/12/2018 13:44

I have just read 5 pages of the last thread... did the riddle ever get solved? I can't read anymore, it's making my head hurt.

EnglishRose13 · 07/12/2018 13:49

Well...

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 07/12/2018 13:51

Ooh I know I know

"I know him as well" makes no sense, because that's a response the listener has to supply. Jokes have their own punchlines.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 07/12/2018 13:51

FFS, Me, why can't I leave Boswell alone? It's like crack to me, I can't resist!!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 13:55

Original OP never came back!

Yes she did.

MyOtherProfile · 07/12/2018 13:57

What did she say? I missed that.

VeniVidiViciTwice · 07/12/2018 13:57

😁

Huntlybyelection · 07/12/2018 14:02

I KNOW THE ANSWER! *

*(I don't. I hate it. But I can't leave alone. Am Boswell addict. Help me.)

Drogosnextwife · 07/12/2018 14:05

LittleRen

Imagine 80 pages!

She came back and said she solved it but couldn't tell us, absolute twat!

Satsumaeater · 07/12/2018 14:08

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this but there was a riddle in Enid Blyton's "book of the year" about chickens and corn in Cornwall and I never got it and rebought the book a few years ago for ds, and I still don't get it. It was called a Farmyard Charade.

SylviaAndSydney · 07/12/2018 14:10

Ooh what’s the Enid Blyton riddle?
I’m shit at them but it may give me something else to focus on..

Serialweightwatcher · 07/12/2018 14:10

Need to kmow the bloody answer Sad

DoJo · 07/12/2018 14:11

@MyOtherProfile The OP came back to say that she had worked out the answer but couldn't (or wouldn't) say what it was. Cue much wailing, gnashing of teeth, cursing of Bosweel and calling of troll from those who had had their time wasted and their brain power depleted by thinking about the whole thing for hours.

There were also two other posters who claimed to have 'got it', also claiming that they couldn't reveal the answer, although one subsequently admitted that she hadn't got it and had instead decided that her answer was correct simply to have closure on the whole thing. Whether or not that is an acceptable definition of having 'got it' or not still hangs in the balance.

dogzdinner · 07/12/2018 14:15

What's the clock bus canada one?

Satsumaeater · 07/12/2018 14:19

Mine is quite long, I might need to take photos of it. Leave it with me and I will come back. No idea about the Boswell one though. I assume it is nothing to do with TV show "Bread"?

Dairyqueen2 · 07/12/2018 14:21

Satsuma ... If only it was as entertaining as Bread was ...Xmas Sad

FiveStoryFire · 07/12/2018 14:37

I have a new theory.
Someone mentioned the spoons game in the second thread. The thread that the OP said led her to the answer.
The goal of the spoons game is:
"The goal of the game is to be the first to collect four cards of the same rank. If an opponent beats you to that goal, to not be the last to realize it."
So my new theory is that the joke is on the last person to realise that it's not a joke.
And that's why the OP can't say what it is on the thread.
Because then there wouldn't be anyone left who doesn't get the joke, thereby nullifying the joke.
What does everyone think of this?

FiveStoryFire · 07/12/2018 14:39

This is also why derek said you have to work it out for yourself and it's not in the spirit of the joke to reveal it.

Andylion · 07/12/2018 15:07

Were you paying a cheque in? Bloody cancel it.

Grin

Are you effing serious?
(I am work otherwise I would swear outright. Grin )

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 07/12/2018 15:24

FiveStoryFire

That is not a new theory, I'm afraid.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 07/12/2018 15:26

A man OR woman called Boswell was beaten to death on the post office OR library steps with naice ham, then pelted with badger and rice. Before he (or she) could cancel the cheque for the Maui wedding to the Mexican House Thief, Andy (or Andi) Forshort snapped and farted, thereby spilling the penis beaker all over the cutted up pear.

I think that's the essence?

Sunflowersforever · 07/12/2018 15:30

Maybe it's reading it backwards?

OP posts:
BuggerOffBoswell · 07/12/2018 15:52

Loadsof you forgot the Pom Bears. Evil bastards probably tripped Boswell up to facilitate the naive ham assault.
