To think some people are a bit precious about shoes in house

I visit someone weekly with work and use a room which is literally 6 foot steps from the front door yet I have to take my shoes off.

AIBU to feel this is a tad annoying?

But in real life flamingo, people who tend to keep their shoes on in the house DO take off dirty wet shoes. They just don’t take them off if they aren’t muddy etc. So mud and water isn’t being trampled through the house at all. I don’t wear my slippers outside. People aren’t nuts, they just don’t routinely take off their outdoor shoes at the door. You’re imagining something that just doesn’t happen.

The other thing is that all those in shoes off households who have experienced someone trampling in mud - that would be rude in a shoes on household too!

Yes, it does happen. Before we had a "shoes off" policy we got dog shit and mud on our carpets a few times and even got an oil/grease stain that we couldn't remove. We didn't mind so much back then as we'd just moved in and knew we'd be replacing the carpets. But as soon as new carpets went down, shoes were banned - full stop!

masterandmargarita · 06/12/2018 15:14

What about dogs?

abacucat · 06/12/2018 15:16

Badbunny - sounds like you have shit friends or family. I am in my late 50s and never had any of those things happen to my carpets.

Reallybadidea · 06/12/2018 15:19

What really winds me up is that my parents have a no-shows rule, yet if I ask my did to take his shoes off in my house he gets the massive hump.

masterandmargarita · 06/12/2018 15:24

So if you have a dog, do they have to clean their feet when they come in? because surely they walk along the same pavements as your shoes? Or is the shoes off policy mainly for non dog owners?

HerSymphonyAndSong · 06/12/2018 15:28

If anyone is spreading poo particles around a house it is your own dog!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 06/12/2018 15:29

Badbadbunny You know some very odd rude people. No one I know thinks it is ok to walk dog poo or mud around a house, regardless of shoes on or off policy

Doghorsechicken · 06/12/2018 15:39

Well since our house is situated on a working yard I don’t want grease, oil, chicken shit, mud etc trodden through my house just because you can’t be bothered to take your shoes off. If you wear them you can hoover & mop for me before you leave.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 06/12/2018 15:40

The thought of wearing shoes in a hoyse is just gross. My in laws carpet is disgusting due to keeping shoes on in the house. O cant understand why people would want to keep shoes on x

HerSymphonyAndSong · 06/12/2018 16:47

“Gross”
“Disgusting”
A little kiss at the end doesn’t make your opinion any less unpleasant
Don’t judge everyone by your inlaws’ poor standards

flamingofridays · 06/12/2018 20:12

I dont have a dog and if i was going to get one id have wooden floors put in first!

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 06/12/2018 20:25

@symphonyandsong no. Just my opinion i think it is gross. The roads and oavwments outside are disgusting why anyone would want to traipse it through their house i dont know.

I was just responding to the post. My post was not aimed at anyone i did not mean to offend you.

MiddlingMum · 06/12/2018 20:30

Shoes off policy here, and there's no way a dog would be allowed in the house either. We have German and Japanese friends and they both think the British idea of shoes on in a house is revolting and extremely ill-mannered.
