After committing a crime like this, it can never be guaranteed that this man is not a risk to society. What parameters do the Parole Board use to determine this? He has not been around to lose his temper/in a position to kill children while inside.

The reports details a network of 'friends' that this fiend has as support when he's out. Who on earth could be friends with something like this?

How can he even want to be released? If he had any remorse he'd have killed himself before now.

The poor parents of these children. Is there anyway they can fight against this?

*excused for

brizzledrizzle · 04/12/2018 19:33

It's all very saying he's a changed person but have you thought how people with children living in the Worcester area feel at the chance of him being back in Worcester? DBro teaches near Worcester and lives their with his family, I doubt he and his wife are that happy about the potential release.

He shouldn't be released.

brizzledrizzle · 04/12/2018 19:33

^ there!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2018 19:35

Speaking of networks, I see the Board has said McGreavy has "a network of supportive friends in the community"

I wonder who on earth these people are?? Hmm

MulticolourMophead · 04/12/2018 19:41

He murdered the baby by blunt force trauma to the skull. He then strangled the 4-year-old boy with wire and slit the 2-year-old's throat. He then removed the bodies and impaled them on spikes. Oh, he also mutilated the corpses with a pickaxe.

Why did he use 3 different methods if it was all meant to be a moment of stress where he snapped? And isn't strangulation associated with sadism, etc? Strangling someone is so deliberate, because you can pause and allow the victim to breathe again. Not like stabbing or blunt force trauma where once inflicted it can't be reversed.

And the psychiatrist's opinion was that it's "less likely" for this person to re-offend. That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. It's far too vague and the language used worries me. "Less likely" implies more than "unlikely", but in any case there's no point of reference to determine how much less is "less likely". I'd like a straight answer - what is the risk?

Claw001 · 04/12/2018 19:43

1. He has been incarcerated for decades
I agree

  1. All the reports indicate that he has made very positive progress

we don’t know what reports or info has been relied on, it’s not made public.

  1. It has been 45 years. Have you changed during the past 45 years?

yes I have, however I did not murder anyone. I think the reoffending rate for murderers committing another is about 1%.

  1. The facts tell us that he was 17 and riddled with very serious mental health issues, that he had been drinking, and that he had been left in sole charge of three very small children. This is a recipe for disaster

The facts which are available are he was 21 at the time. We don’t know if he had any MH issues. He had a drink problem. He was drunk and the children were left, in bed asleep with him for which is reported to be for just over an hour.

He says the baby woke crying, he suffocated her, then cut her throat, then fractured her skull. The other 2 children were murdered in their sleep, with curtain wire and a razor. He then got an axe and impaled them on railings.

As I said the risk of murderers reoffending is 1%. However, we have about 100 murderers in prison for whole life sentences. The most violent, sadistic type such as Ian Huntley, Peter Sutcliffe, Hindley and Bradley were also, until they died. Maybe this is a factor in the 1%.

I agree the Law needs to be applied to everyone, otherwise it’s pointless. I don’t understand why he is not one of those 100.

Augusta2012 · 04/12/2018 19:44

We understand that small children need their caregivers to be sober, mature and patient. We understand that looking after other people's young children is not easy or without challenges.

As has been pointed out multiple times: people who snap under pressure caring for children usually inflict catastrophic injuries through one impulsive act. They don’t kill three children each with different methods and then impale them on fences.

As others point out, you are factually wrong about his age, mental health and background.

If you’re going to post such patronising high handed tosh, you could at least have the decency to get basic facts right.

RabbityMcRabbit · 04/12/2018 19:44

He should never ever be released. That poor woman and her children

Augusta2012 · 04/12/2018 19:48

augusta But you are making up a totally hypothetical scenario. I don’t agree with him getting out, no way but the parole board will have considered and taken guidance about likely breaches of conditions.

No, I was responding to another poster who said that concerns about his behaviour after the use of alcohol would be no problem because he could just be breathalysed. But breathalysing him would be pointless because if he was in the situation to fail one it would be too late. And we know this is a man capable of huge amounts of violence after drinking.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 04/12/2018 19:55

I heard this on the local news earlier.
I haven't read through the thread but he should have been put down years ago.

To think they'd even consider releasing this monster is astonishing. Let alone actually letting him out.

I really couldn't give a shit if he's been good all these years. He committed a purely evil crime and is a waste of oxygen.

Aridane · 04/12/2018 19:59

I guess that after nearly half a century his risk profile may have changed...

Aridane · 04/12/2018 20:01

He looks like a pretty fit 67 year old, hardly doddering.

There isn't a picture of him now in the article confused

There is when I click on it

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 04/12/2018 20:01

It's not even his risk profile alone for me.

Yeah it's unlikely he will re-offend but it's not impossible.

It's just that why the hell should he get to live his twilight years as a free man? He couldn't be less deserving.

TinselBeakerSoChristmas · 04/12/2018 20:04

There is a petition on Change.org:
www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-triple-child-killer-david-mcgreavy-should-never-be-released-from-prison

I couldn't find one on here Petitions: UK Government and Parliament
petition.parliament.uk
It would carry more weight on here as the petition has to be debated in parliament once the petition reaches 100,000 signatures

csigeek · 04/12/2018 20:09

They told those poor children's mother that he'd never be released. Nothing he could have done would repent the sin he committed. He deserves to rot in a cell for all eternity.

brizzledrizzle · 04/12/2018 20:13

I wonder who on earth these people are?? hmm

People who increase the IQ of their home town when they leave?

Iloveautumnleaves · 04/12/2018 20:34

Signed & donated.

The parole board should be locked up. I wonder how many of them would let him babysit their children or grandchildren?

Valanice1989 · 04/12/2018 20:39

I can't read any more of this thread. I can't believe people are defending him. Mumsnet is a place where people will frequently recommend that a woman be cut off from an entire branch of their family for life because her daughter-in-law has decided she's "toxic", but a man who murders children and impales their bodies on spikes has excuses made for him because "looking after other people's children is not without its challenges".

Nicknacky · 04/12/2018 20:41

No one is defending him ffs.

People have explained the role of the parole board.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 04/12/2018 20:42

Utterly horrific. Should NEVER be released. An utter insult to the victims and their families and our justice system.

These people never change and should die in jail.

And parole boards? They get it wrong all the time which is why rapists are released and reoffend

sanityisamyth · 04/12/2018 21:08

He should have been hanged in the first place. At least the taxpayer wouldn't have had to pay for his full board and lodgings for the last 45 years. No doubt he'll get some sort of protection to prevent revenge attacks too. 😡😡😡

flamingofridays · 04/12/2018 21:09

pickle is defending him, no?

Pearl87 · 04/12/2018 21:15

No one is defending him ffs.

Did you read pickle's post?

Nicknacky · 04/12/2018 21:18

Pickles explained why she thought he should be released which is her opinion. And she had then made a statement about teenage brains which I don’t agree with, nor should anyone.

However valancie is staying that people are defending him. Plural. They are not. That’s one posters opinion.
