To wish the extra funding for grammar schools was £500 million rather than £50 million.

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/government-gives-16-grammar-schools-in-england-a-share-of-£50m-funding-pot-to-expand/ar-BBQqmk6

Instead of just 16 grammar schools sharing the pot of £50 million . It should be the full 164 of grammar schools hence the £500 million requirement.

Grammar schools as the flagships of the state education sector should have all the resources they require . In order to ensure a world class education is available to those that can make use of one.

I am not stupid and realise to make statements like this on here puts me on par with Nigel Farage or Katie Hopkins in the hearts and minds of the cohort which inhabits this parish !
However, I have a belief that if you have limited resources available you should make sure what you have got does not get wasted; i.e. put it in to areas such as selective education.

After all there are only about 220 good secondary schools in England with 164 of them being grammar schools. The other 56 being de facto grammar schools despite posing as comprehensives. This proves you cant be successful if you are all things to all people !

I wish no money went to free private schools and they properly funded state schools!

Bechetdiagnosed · 04/12/2018 19:54

you didn't have to tutor your child, you chose to

Yes I did choose to tutor her. I have no regrets. She attended a failing primary and the tutoring helped her reach her full potential.

JacquesHammer · 04/12/2018 19:58

She attended a failing primary and the tutoring helped her reach her full potential

So we were given a failing primary too far away. So we chose private to help her reach her full potential.

Yet you think we shouldn’t have access to grammar schools? You’ve bought access in the same way we did. Neither is morally different!

Bechetdiagnosed · 04/12/2018 20:00

Can I suggest you read the whole thread.

I have not paid for private schooling. Nor would I have ever been in the position to do so.

I did

No. But you paid for a tutor?

Whereisthegin1978 · 04/12/2018 20:07

The money should be sent to all state schools. Personally believe we should abolish private and grammar - I was educated at a private school but as an adult believe in equality.

Schuyler · 04/12/2018 20:15

So, are you a teacher?

letstalk2000 · 04/12/2018 21:02

Since my academic ability has been questioned, presumably that makes me a teacher .

What difference does it make whether I am a teacher or not.

Assuming I am/was a teacher in a state school with 35% FSM; I would be very wise to keep my opinions on education policy to myself !

Good idea

Schuyler · 04/12/2018 21:17

I’m asking because you’ve acted like an authority on the topic and said you worked in a school. You volunteered the information.

Schuyler · 04/12/2018 21:19

The reason I asked was because I do value the opinions of many teachers, so I was surprised at your opinion. Additionally, your lack of basic grammar and punctuation, alongside your ability to understand foreign aid and foreign relations, made me wonder if you really did work in a grammar school.

letstalk2000 · 04/12/2018 22:12

I never said I worked in a school that was either assumed or presented to take the Michael .

Secondly if I choose to write in a casual way on a internet site that should not define my professional status.

Thirdly there are many people in certain professions who would not dare voice their true opinions in public.

Finally I have a first in Politics from an R.G University gained in 1993 .

My dissertation was about the Miners Strike and the undeniable link,as to why South Yorkshire Police got away with manslaughter at HILLSBOURGH .

I never said I worked in a school
23:52 last night you wrote
The Grammar I work at has plenty of children from all sorts of backgrounds

You either lied last night or just now

hazeyjane · 04/12/2018 22:17

that was either assumed or presented to take the Michael

Ok, you are either Alan Partridge or Nigel Farage (who let's face it, has some time on his hands now.)

Learn how to do quotes then

Surely they taught you that at your RG Uni ?

Bechet - I'm not disputing that tutoring helped your daughter 'reach her full potential' - what ever that really means - I am disputing the use of the phrase 'had to'. You didn't have to.

Talkinpeece · 04/12/2018 22:26

Because you are playing the fool Grin

letstalk2000 · 04/12/2018 22:31

I'd like to see zero funding for grammar schools.

BlackberryandNettle · 04/12/2018 22:49

Grammar schools i think may need a funding boost as they haven't had much investment recently as didn't need improving - no researched evidence other than rumour around the local (grammar) area and facilities looking a bit shabby compared to other schools.

I don't agree that they should be prioritized over other schools though or that investing heavily in a very small number of schools is a good strategy.

letstalk2000 · 04/12/2018 22:52

Gaetano Mosca 1939 [1896] The tyranny of the majority ! sums up this site . The meaning of which is also suggestive of Schumpter who pointed out '
We are behaving exactly as fervent socialists believe to whom capitalism is worse than witch hunting'.

This is to point out anybody proposing a pathway finding different answers or asking different questions is deemed guilty of Witch Craft.

OP posts:
wafflyversatile · 04/12/2018 23:14

Capitalism is a rancid pile of shit. The consumerism needed to fuel it is destroyed our planet. No need for a boost for any school once we've made the earth uninhabitable.
