That my only-just two year old has started to call me “mum” not “mummy”?

Happy to be handed a grip, because I’m ridiculously (very unusually for me) sad over this!

Ah well, I get called mummy, mum, dad, man, stepmother’s name....the list goes on.

My son has only ever called me by my first name and the same for his dad as that is what we use. It bothers me less now but never did that much. It seems to bother other people especially when he was small. Not sure what it had to do with them. Does it really matter as long as parent and child love and care for each other (most of the time)?

@MsLexic

That’s me fairly summed up in a neat phrase, really

Have them write that on my grave will you? “She certainly had the audience’s attention”
Fabulous

I gave the tribute to my late mother last week, she died aged 92. I had always called her "Mummy". I tried to write the notes for the day using "my Mother" instead of "mum" a word I really do not like. In the end I just thought "stuff it" and called her "mummy" throughout, it was just her. In her youth she was and glamorous and stylish, "mum" to me is more to do with the down to earth side of life.

My kids took to calling me "Mum-Ra" for a bit - and then "Mothership" and now "Ma" . Personally I cannot stand "mummy" - it sounds infantile to me with undertones of pretentious. I guess it's all down to personal preference ...

Don’t worry. I promise you once they get in their 20’s and want your debit card,you suddenly become mummy again!
