Flaunting on facebook when your DH is awaiting trial

Facebook, I know, work of the devil ... I have an acquaintance whose husband was arrested for drugs trafficking recently. They're out on bail and awaiting trial which could result in a few years in prison as it was in the papers and he was caught red handed. Their facebook is full of pictures of their happy family and their holidays. Their facebook had always been full of travel shots in lovely locations.

I don't think many people know about it as while it was in the local papers, he was arrested a long way from their local area. But there's no doubt it's him.

Am I being unreasonable to think that this is kind of shameless?

Why are you even Facebook Friends with these people, you clearly don’t like their lifestyle (& personally I don’t blame you) but why are you even friends with them Confused.

Redactio · 01/12/2018 20:29

WorraLiberty - drugs to the value of hundreds of thousands of pounds, and you are stupid enough to beleive he didn't know they were there? What amount of space do think that amount of drugs would take up?

Bunnyfuller · 01/12/2018 20:44

You’d be surprised how little room.

Again, a ‘big bail’ - big bail doesn’t include holidays and having a fab lifestyle. Your accounts are frozen as soon as they have enough to start investigating.

Not ringing true, OP. Do you suspect he’s dealing because you’re jealous of alleged FB lifestyle?

I work for the police

ForalltheSaints · 01/12/2018 20:50

Perhaps if Mark Zuckerberg had not failed to turn up for the House of Commons select committee, he could have been asked his views on whether this is acceptable content.

Of course, if any of the holiday photos included a bare nipple, they would have been banned.

JudgeRindersMinder · 01/12/2018 20:55

No no no!
A lot of people involved in the illegal drugs trade get caught precisely because of these kind of photos....their supposed income doesn’t match the lifestyle they’re portraying, so questions start to be asked about how they can afford these things

Drugs traffickers absolutely should be posting these kind of photos!

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2018 20:56

Right. Firstly I didn't say 'I believe' it and secondly jurors are supposed to keep open minds for obvious reasons.

As to how much space they did/didn't take up, it would depend on how they were stored and in what.

For example, if he was driving a van load of boxes of 'tinned beans', that doesn't necessarily mean he packed the cargo himself. It could've been packed by a colleague or someone else he trusted.

I'm surprised this sort of thing needs explaining, especially to someone so fond of calling others stupid.

Caprisunorange · 01/12/2018 20:57

Blimey think how many illegal immigrants get into a lorry bound for the U.K. without the driver knowing. Actual live people!

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 01/12/2018 21:00

Redactio

Not sure you read my post properly. Especially the last line. I've seen first hand how drugs ruin people's lives. In no way do I think drug dealing is okay.

Pinkblanket · 01/12/2018 21:02

Just unfriend her if you don't like it.

DistanceCall · 01/12/2018 21:03

there's also something about it that is about seeking affirmation.

Yeah, and? You should pity this woman, then. Her husband is about to go to prison and she's keeping up appearances on FB. Sad, really.

Biancadelriosback · 01/12/2018 21:13

People don't post the bad things on social media.

Caprisunorange · 01/12/2018 21:15

Well some people do post the bad on social media and get endlessly criticised for that too. That’s not good enough either I bet

TroysMammy · 01/12/2018 21:17

Was the holiday paid for from the proceeds of crime?

Bluerussian · 01/12/2018 21:44

I don't get why you are so annoyed. There is more to a person than one thing they did that was bad. This is a family you're talking about. Not a big deal either.

GabsAlot · 01/12/2018 21:47

he woukdnt be allowed on holiday if hes on bail theres certain conditions to being on bail

Rudgie47 · 01/12/2018 21:47

I wouldn't be bothered what they were posting on Facebook.
Just thank god its not you that has all that stress on your head.

StrangeLookingParasite · 01/12/2018 21:49

This us one of the oddest comments I've ever seen. Have you nothing better to do OP?

I have mental space for wondering about all sorts of things, don't you?

Basecamp65 · 01/12/2018 22:10

My son in law is serving 10 years for drug dealing - first thing they did was seize his passport!!!! Not too sure how they are able to be doing this.

People awaiting trial for anything above a minor level of drug trafficking would not be on bail - they will be remanded in custody. The few on bail would most probably have strict conditions stating where they must reside and they need the courts permission to stay elsewhere - the vast majority will be on tag. They will be monitoring their Facebook. They do not get permission to go on holiday.

Also he will be subject to a POCA trial and the Facebook photos will be used as evidence and the money reclaimed at at least 10 fold the actual cost.

Either his offence is far more minor than you have implied or you have the wrong person.

LadyPasserine · 01/12/2018 22:15

The confiscation order will soon put a damper on it.

Amanduh · 01/12/2018 22:18

Hmmm. A lot about this doesnt ring true.

CoughLaughFart · 01/12/2018 23:08

Are these definitely current photos? Is your friend perhaps sorting through old pics she hadn’t had a chance to upload before?

Newsername · 01/12/2018 23:13

Amazed at all these drug dealer apologisers!

Op I agree with you! It’s in bad taste. They’ve dealt drugs and have made money from other people’s addictions. God knows how many lives they’ve ruined. There are real people suffering as a result of drugs and I’m shocked people don’t care about this!

She shouldn’t be flaunting her happy life when they’ve probably made thousands addicted and unhappy.

greendale17 · 01/12/2018 23:16

**DistanceCall

So you think FB is an accurate reflection of people's lives?

Grow up.**

^Maybe you should grow up and find real friends who aren’t fake on Facebook.

greendale17 · 01/12/2018 23:19

YANBU- I agree with you OP. Normal, innocent people would just keep a low profile until the trial was over.

They like cocky, arrogants dicks who think they will get away with it. And I don’t believe for a second the wife didn’t know.

Ceilingrose · 01/12/2018 23:21

I have no idea but if he was drug trafficking (ie to your teenage children) then to hell with him.
