Meh I've had a drink with my adult kids. My son is bloody hilarious when he's on form. Proper belly laughs.

Momasita · 01/12/2018 10:47

Loving the stories of family enjoying drinking together.

Op I think if mum was alcoholic or bad drinker it's different story.
My dsis is alcoholic, I would die inside if she said this. But in normal relationship with normal children... No drink issues it sounds lovely.

Infact I'd go so far to say how important it is as a family to have a drink and have fun together.

That's so sad. Dh dm and df are like that. It's really sad.

By contrast we have so many funny memories with my dp.. Wondeful times!
My dm was in fact far far more fun to go out with than many of my friends!! Neither of us got really drunk at all but certainly very merry.

I was very emotionally close to my dp. Dh on the other hand who gets formally offered a beer as though it's the most wild special suggestion... For a family living in the edge is as far away from them emotionally as you can get.

TheFaerieQueene · 01/12/2018 10:53

The child is an adult. They can do what they wish.

corythatwas · 01/12/2018 10:55

My birth family is teetotal, so obviously wouldn't be happening with us.

But must make life difficult in fishing and farming communities where fathers and sons tend to work together and there is only one boozer for miles around.

TheWiseWomansFear · 01/12/2018 10:56

I get drunk with my mum, it's hilarious...
once got my 80yo NaN to do tequila shots with me....

JaceLancs · 01/12/2018 10:58

At 27 and 54 I think we can do exactly what we like
I love spending time with DD
We are going away together in next week or so Xmas shopping and Xmas markets
It will probably also involve food and alcohol

SaucyJack · 01/12/2018 10:59

Yeah, YABU.

My Mum is a performance teetotaller, and out of her many, many, many snide and judgy habits- the absolute worst has to be her trying to booze-shame me as tho I’m a naughty 15 year old if I do much as have a glass of fizz at a family wedding.

I’m 37 btw.

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 01/12/2018 11:06

I think this is an appropriate response to a ridiculous aibu

Back in the Olden Days, when all round here was fields, we would say interesting first post.

Just sayin'.

AlaskanOilBaron · 01/12/2018 12:00

A couple of drinks, yes. Going out and getting drunk, no. I avoid this in general, so I'm not sure why I'd want to do this with my children.

Blackness78 · 01/12/2018 12:05

I have children over 18 and wouldn't ever get drunk with them (mind you, I haven't drank in years) but I can't get worked up about other families doing it.

Doghorsechicken · 01/12/2018 12:06

Stop referring to her as ‘her child’. She isn’t a child, she’s ‘her daughter’. I love going on holiday with my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandads, cousins etc. and getting pissed together. Great times!

bellsbuss · 01/12/2018 12:11

I go for cocktails with DD1 20 or we have a few drinks at home, don't see the problem

AngryAttackKittens · 01/12/2018 12:18

"Her child" makes it sound like she's filling the baby's sippy cup up with gin.

PortiaCastis · 01/12/2018 12:51

My child is 20 but I call her by her name

woodhill · 01/12/2018 12:54

I kind of agree. Drinking is not good for your health anyway and you are meant to set a good example.

woodhill · 01/12/2018 12:54

I mean a couple of drinks is great but not a Kat Slater approach lol

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 01/12/2018 12:57

Can’t see what’s inappropriate about drinking between adults, related or not. I regularly have a few drinks at Christmas with my mum, and I’m in the presence of my (obviously not drinking!) my own kids. True I don’t get ‘drunk’ but I definitely get tipsy.

Picnictime · 01/12/2018 13:02

The thought of getting drunk with my mother now made me cringe. But she did take me 'clubbing' at 16!
My late grandad and I would get pissed on occasion, never planned though.
Would love to get drunk with my nan though :) she's a blast!

Howhot · 01/12/2018 13:05

I love going out with my mum for food and drinks mixed in with some shopping. We have a great time

ethelfleda · 01/12/2018 13:16
Confused
RedLife · 01/12/2018 21:14

Sorry only just seen this thread because me and my eldest have been on an all dayer 🍻

jerrysbellyhangslikejelly · 01/12/2018 21:25

Not inappropriate, you sound incredibly boring. Getting pissed with family is great craic, no one can forgive you like your mother or aunt for having to put you to bed after falling asleep on the patio table. Or maybe we just do it differently in Ireland.

Biancadelriosback · 01/12/2018 21:38

I've gotten pissed with my mum loads of times...I don't understand why it's inappropriate?
