The daughter is over 18, but both going to a hotel this weekend and happily announces they will be getting pissed

Well my DD ISN'T a child!!!!

Santasushi · 03/12/2018 10:39

I can think of nothing worse than drinking with my dd. We have completely opposite tastes in ‘fun’. I would bore her, she would bore me. Sober we have a great time.

APositiveMind · 03/12/2018 11:06

I have been absolutely off my tits drunk with my mum. We enjoy a drink together, I'm 22 and I much prefer to drink with my mum than with my friends. She only starts tutting at me if I get so drunk I vomit. Which has only happened a handful of times at party's when I was much younger.

I believe drinking with my mother has taught me how NOT to abuse alcohol. And I
I see alot of my friends who has much stricter parents who now feels the need to go out every weekend and get bladdered beyond belief.

mostdays · 03/12/2018 11:34

seriously it is not okay to go out and get pissed with your child.

Yes it is. Who made you guardian of the nation's morals?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 03/12/2018 11:40

seriously it is not okay to go out and get pissed with your child

Why? As long as the 'child' is an adult why is it a problem?

PortiaCastis · 03/12/2018 11:43

Men go out and get pissed with their sons so I'll not be judged for going out with my daughter

anniehm · 03/12/2018 11:54

No, it's odd but fine. We have pub crawled with ours (including the canine child) on occasions. I don't drink that heavily so pissed would be too strong a description!

rosetulip · 03/12/2018 11:56

Me and dh have been on a few all inclusive holidays with daughter and son in law and had many memorable drink fuelled nights. Great times.

AllWorkNoSleep · 03/12/2018 12:32

I love getting pissed with my mum. We have a laugh. I also get pissed with my MIL. Why is it inappropriate? We're all adults! It's not like we were doing it when I was 12.

Chocolatebourbons · 03/12/2018 12:34

FFS OP...such a judgemental old fashioned attitude you have.

Bluntness100 · 03/12/2018 12:40

I guess rhe op doesn't like the mother, so just wished to be a bit judgey and bitchy and she's not planning on coming back as she didn't get everyone telling her she was right.

nuitdesetoiles · 03/12/2018 14:42

Yabu.

My mum hardly drinks, and when I'm at hers every sip of alcohol (in the thimble sized glasses she uses) is monitored by her judgy eyes. I've always been quite envious of friends who have fun getting merry with their parents esp at weddings and parties and similar. Even at my own wedding I was on pins as I knew the eagle eyes would be on me, making sure I didn't drink "inappropriate" amounts.

My sister has now adopted the same judgy, sanctimonious, fun sucking attitude. She'd more than agree with you op.

Wow ... YABU, it’s none of your business

shadypines · 03/12/2018 20:10

YANBU at all OP

8 or 18 or 80 the parent should be setting an example about drinking responsibly not aiming to 'get pissed' - 'C'mon child, let's go out and drink so much we don't know what we're doing, if we do it right we could end up in A&E...it's so cool!'

Er no....learn to enjoy a drink without getting off yer face fgs.

SoyDora · 03/12/2018 20:15

C'mon child, let's go out and drink so much we don't know what we're doing, if we do it right we could end up in A&E...it's so cool!

Is that what the mum in his scenario said? You were there were you?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 03/12/2018 20:21

How many times do people have to explain that 'getting pissed' doesn't necessarily mean blind drunk 🙄

I get pissed/tipsy/merry ( insert local colloquialism for having a drink here) fairly regularly yet I've never ended up in A&E , always remember how I got home etc. It's just a saying!

Having an adult relationship with your parents is healthy. Having an adult/child dynamic when you're both adults is far stranger.

anitagreen · 03/12/2018 20:37

I love a drink round my mums we all get absolutely pissed music on etc I really enjoy it

BitchQueen90 · 03/12/2018 21:04

Er, I've never got into a state where I've been in A&E or not known what I'm doing and I go out with the intention of getting pissed a handful of times a year.

I can (and do) enjoy a drink without getting off my face but I also like getting drunk sometimes. It's fun.

Some of the holier than thou attitudes on this thread are Hmm

Yidette86 · 03/12/2018 21:16

Got to laugh at some of these comments... Some people need some sticks removed from their tight arses Hmm

And this is coming from someone who rarely drinks btw

EvaReady · 04/12/2018 06:28

8 or 18 or 80 the parent should be setting an example How old are your kids? I'm guessing pretty young, as you can't seem to imagine even not being the one in charge, which by the way is not a healthy relationship to have with an adult child, they will thoroughly resent that if the ever allowed to develop a mind of their own.

Pashal2 · 04/12/2018 08:03

American, what does pissed mean in GB? Here it means angry
