The daughter is over 18, but both going to a hotel this weekend and happily announces they will be getting pissed

AIBU to think this is inappropriate?

I have thought about this deeply OP.

It seems to me that insisting on them both getting drunk alone is not a better plan.

They should drink together. 😀

LG123 · 02/12/2018 23:33

@Shewhomustbeobeyed1

None of your business frankly

This. What on earth has it got to do with you. I find your attitude bizzare.

ThorsMistress · 02/12/2018 23:37

Me and my mum have had many a pissed up lovely evenings.

Really don't see the problem

Touchmybum · 03/12/2018 00:22

Jesus but you are one boring old fart!!!

Don't knock what you haven't tried.

Ablemaybel · 03/12/2018 01:14

My 30yr old daughter is my prosecco buddy. We've shared many a bottle together.

OkPedro · 03/12/2018 01:34

I pmsl at manic post
"Me and mother" Fucking hilarious

Augusta2012 · 03/12/2018 01:46

In the vast, vast majority of families in the UK on Christmas Day adult children will be getting pissed with their parents.

BITCAT · 03/12/2018 02:07

Pretty normal mother daughter relationship. Nothing wrong with some drinks and some mother daughter bonding. My daughters 17 and has always been allowed to partake in the fun during parties and at xmas. She has a great outlook on life and is very sensible with alcohol and has got to the stage where she knows her limits and what is and isnt a safe situation.

Topseyt · 03/12/2018 02:16

I'll be going to visit my parents in a couple of weeks. We will be having a few drinks together for the night that I am there, as we always do.

I'm 52. We are clearly a wildly inappropriate family.

Rachie1973 · 03/12/2018 02:37

Lol I go clubbing with my DDs. We love a good tiddly night out

kateandme · 03/12/2018 03:08

im unsure on the plans people make to purposefully go out and get ratted but that is because of my issue with alchohol the beahviour and consequences it brings to my life and so why get pissed.
but some people like it.so to do it with your daughter is doing something they both enjoy then its lovely for them.

sonandhelpneeded · 03/12/2018 07:51

I'm with you OP and shocked at the responses on here

Thank god you're in the minority then!!

Ragwort · 03/12/2018 07:54

Saying you are having a ‘couple of cocktails’ or ‘a few glasses of wine’ doesn’t sound the same to me as ‘getting pissed’ .... I think it’s a matter of interpretation.

My mother (85) and I regularly have a sherry followed by a couple of glasses of wine with our meal, perhaps I need to re-phrase it as ‘getting pissed’ Hmm.

GallusKat · 03/12/2018 08:19

YABU and a bit of a dick. I often share a bottle of wine with my DD and shock horror I’ve been on an occasional night out with her too.

expatmigrant · 03/12/2018 08:26

My DD love to put away a bottle of bubbles together and on festive days maybe a few bottles. Nothing wrong with that at all.

ShotsFired · 03/12/2018 08:27

Yes, I find it a bit weird to get deliberately pissed with a parent. Just feels wrong given the parent/child relationship.

But then I have a parent with a drinking problem, so booze was always a very tricky subject in our house and I may be reflecting that, who knows!

I would now have a couple of drinks over dinner with the non-drinking parent, but I try not to in front of the other.

PoisonousSmurf · 03/12/2018 08:40

My eldest DD is only 16, but one day I hope to have a drink with her.
I'm secretly hoping that she has my 'unable to get really drunk' gene and is the same as me.
Get tipsy but feel ill or fall asleep before I can do any real damage.

Kemer2018 · 03/12/2018 08:43

At least she's with someone she knows.
18 is fine. 8 not so much.

hellsbellsmelons · 03/12/2018 09:00

I have a good drink or 5 with my DD who is over 20.
My dad and I also like a good few drinks together and to put the world to rights.
Not sure what's wrong with it??????
I'm lost...... Confused

EvaReady · 03/12/2018 09:06

My initial thoughts were - that's so nice that mother and daughter want to spend some time together - regardless of what they chose to do, I always wanted my mum to want to spend time with me - I hope dd and I do the same when she's a bit older.

AlaskanOilBaron · 03/12/2018 09:45

Saying you are having a ‘couple of cocktails’ or ‘a few glasses of wine’ doesn’t sound the same to me as ‘getting pissed’ .... I think it’s a matter of interpretation.

My thoughts exactly. I already share an occasional drink with my 16 year old and while I love the ritual - crossing the threshold to adulthood - I frankly wouldn't dream of stepping foot in a club with him.

mostdays · 03/12/2018 09:49

Is this a joke?
I've been ratarsed with my mum. And my dad. In fact they're some of the most fun people I've ever got drunk with. I have some fantastic memories of when is not long moved in with dh and sometimes we'd randomly drop in on my parents, and things would go from a "oooh how lovely we're all together let's have a glass of wine" to "let's just go to the local for last orders" to "it's 3am and your father is drinking scotch and teaching your husband about drunk dancing to Frank Zappa". I like my parents :)

Lweji · 03/12/2018 09:52

I'm surprised any 18 year old (or even older) would want to go on a weekend to get pissed with their mother.
But then maybe it's just my mother.
Other than that... inappropriate? Really?

OutPinked · 03/12/2018 09:57

Meanwhile Father’s have been getting pissed with their son’s since the dawn of time...

itsonlysubterfuge · 03/12/2018 10:30

The problem with these attitudes is that it's okay to get trashed with anyone.

Teaching your child to go out and drink until you lose your facilties is different from enjoying one or two drinks with your family.

This country is too alcohol happy and seriously it is not okay to go out and get pissed with your child.
