AIBU to have a birthday present my dh hates

I've always wanted an ornament for the living room and have it for a birthday present. It's a statement piece so not subtle and dh hates it. It is not functional but makes me smile. AIBU to own something my dh hates?

YABU if it's going in your shared living room.

SoupDragon · 30/11/2018 16:46

That depends on whether you'd be happy to have something on prominent display that he loves and you hate.

PinkHeart5914 · 30/11/2018 16:47

It’s a gold pineapple isn’t it? Or a silver bull dog?

To be honest I wouldn’t have an ugly “statement” ornament in my living room no matter how much dh liked it

HeathRobinson · 30/11/2018 16:47

C'mon - you know we need to see it!

Mailfuckoff · 30/11/2018 16:47

Some good points, we have his things in the living room that I'm not keen on but mean something to him and understand that.

I wouldn't put something on display in our living room if my DH hated it. I'd feel too mean and inconsiderate.

pigsinarow · 30/11/2018 16:52

YABU

Birdsgottafly · 30/11/2018 17:05

If he has stuff that you don't like and yours isn't offence etc, then he should let you display it, at least occasionally.

masterandmargarita · 30/11/2018 17:07

Yabu. He has to look at it every day

HollowTalk · 30/11/2018 17:08

You're really unreasonable. Do you have a workplace where you could put it?

Mailfuckoff · 30/11/2018 17:12

It's 7ft so not suitable for workplace. Dh bought it for me but thinks it's an odd thing to have, not at all offensive or unsuitable for family life

I think YABU but that's possibly because I have to sit and look at a cabinet full of little dwarf type things (world of dwarf craft or something) that dp paints for his hobby (and which actually make him less attractive to me 😂)

Branleuse · 30/11/2018 17:14

Is it a giant 7ft croissant

CaptainCabinets · 30/11/2018 17:15

7ft?! What the fuck is it?!

I’m guessing a life-size model of Jar Jar Binks (had one in the pub I worked at!)

HollowTalk · 30/11/2018 17:16

7ft tall!!!

Fink · 30/11/2018 17:16

YANBU to own something your DH hates, which is the original question, but YABU to display it in the living room or any other shared space. If you love it and he hates it, put it somewhere he doesn't have to see it, and certainly not in a public area of the house.

ChasedByBees · 30/11/2018 17:16

If he bought it, where does he expect it to go?

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 30/11/2018 17:16

a 7ft ornament? The mind boggles...

funnylittlefloozie · 30/11/2018 17:16

thelastnigel my DP paints orcs. All i can say is its a good thing i love him.

OP, is the "ornament " a narwhal horn?

LL83 · 30/11/2018 17:18

If dh bought it for you I assume he is ok with it? Even if he doesn't like it.

What is it?!?!?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 30/11/2018 17:18

7ft?? That's not an "ornament", that's a fucking statue.

Mailfuckoff · 30/11/2018 17:18

I'm not sure where else I could put it? The bedroom is covered in his toys (not adult ones) and the conservatory is full of the dc toys so I wanted something that I liked.

OP posts:
loubluee · 30/11/2018 17:18

Is it something wooden?

Pompom42 · 30/11/2018 17:19

Is it an Alien lamp? We had one once but it was about 5ft.
Is it a Buddha?

RebelWitchFace · 30/11/2018 17:19

Well if he bought it for you then he must not hate it that much and made his own bed. Display away.
