AIBU to have a birthday present my dh hates

I've always wanted an ornament for the living room and have it for a birthday present. It's a statement piece so not subtle and dh hates it. It is not functional but makes me smile. AIBU to own something my dh hates?

Please can we see? 😂

Although I am baffled, if he bought you it what did he expect you to do with it? Keep it in the airing cupboard? Confused

JustHereForThePooStories · 30/11/2018 17:19

Is it a 7ft tall sculpture of a Christmas tree?

Didiusfalco · 30/11/2018 17:20

7ft?! I need to know 🤔

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/11/2018 17:21

Clearly we all need to know what this 7ft ornament is. OP, you're a tease...

TheCrowFromBelow · 30/11/2018 17:22

Are you someone I used to work with who has a light with a full size plaster horse as the base?

CIT80 · 30/11/2018 17:22

Has to be one of those lovely giraffe ornaments 😍 if it is im very jealous

SugarandVinegar · 30/11/2018 17:26

Is it one of those floor to ceiling chrome bars that you twirl round in a leotard?

Mailfuckoff · 30/11/2018 17:26

CIT80 has it. He thinks it's tacky but I love it, it's probably going to sit behind the telly stand

CaliHummers · 30/11/2018 17:26

Well he bought it for you so crack on. Unless you're in a mansion I assume the places to put a 7ft ornament are limited so presumably it was always going to be somewhere he can see it and he knew that for himself.

WoldkirkosTheEvilBitch · 30/11/2018 17:27

Your bedroom is full of his toys, the conservatory is full of the children's toys and now you want to put a 7ft piece of tat 'ornament' in the front room? Blimey, you don't mind a bit of clutter do you!

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 30/11/2018 17:27

If it's 7ft tall, surely this classes as "sculpture" or even "installation" not "ornament"....

I may have missed the point.

Poppyinagreenfield · 30/11/2018 17:27

Please post a picture so we can all admire your taste.

It sounds like the perfect object to keep him out of the lounge. I need one too.

Snowwontbelong · 30/11/2018 17:28

Make a cracking clothes horse!

Chickychoccyegg · 30/11/2018 17:29

presumably all areas of the house are shared space, so you are entitled to display it where ever you like, after all you've already said dh has stuff you don't like in the living room and has toys all over the bedroom, and he did buy it, so what did he think would happen?
display away and if he has a problem with it, tell him you'll move it when he's moved all his stuff out of the living room and put his toys away in the bedroom Smile

BakedBeans47 · 30/11/2018 17:29

YANBU if he bought it, where the bloody hell else does he expect you to put it?

grumiosmum · 30/11/2018 17:30

I knew it was a giraffe too but was beaten to it!

I wouldn't want one in my house, but each to his own ...

olivertwistwantsmore · 30/11/2018 17:30

It's 7 foot tall? Gotta see a pic!!

If he bought it for you, where does he expect you to put it?

He is BU if the lounge is already full of his toys and ornaments that you're not that keen on.

Runnynosehunny · 30/11/2018 17:31

If he moans move it to lie on his side of the bed.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 30/11/2018 17:32

A 7ft Giraffe?? I can see why he doesn't want it in the living room but since he's the one who bought it for you he can't really complain. Where on earth did he think you were going to put it?

plaidlife · 30/11/2018 17:34

He should never have bought it for you without a place to put it that he was happy with.

PanannyPanoo · 30/11/2018 17:37

Do you have a turn on your stairs. I think if I had a 7ft Giraffe it would live on the half landing bit. The you get to see it frequently but it isn't there staring at your husband while he watches TV. It obviously needs to be decorated for Christmas.

alittlequinnie · 30/11/2018 17:41

I've got a 7ft Giraffe in my living room and it's matching 5 ft companion standing next to it. If yours is like mine op it is very narrow as well as being tall and actually they look great as far as I am concenred.

I have mine in a bay window behind the sofa - love them.

.... I should also add that i have a set of three in the dining room - 6ft, 5ft, 4 ft and two metal ones on the landing from The Pier - ALL of mine were purchsed for me by my husband!

I get a lot of compliments about them - hopefully they are genuine!!

I am attempting to attach photos but this is my first time....

Is it a coffin? Turn it into a coffee table or shelving

Mailfuckoff · 30/11/2018 17:45

Thank you for the positive comments, it is like yours alittiequinnie, not sure I can get anymore in. Love the idea of having it on the turn on the stairs but ds has mobility issues so keep the stairs clear for him, same issue with porch and landing

I saw a sad 2’ giraffe ornament crying in a charity shop today, one ear was hanging off. He was only £3.99 so brought him home and have glued his ear back on. His name is Fred and will join Jambo who I bought in Zanzibar.
