Do you kill creepy crawlies/insects that enter your home?

Had a nose around one of the mrs hinch fb groups this morning. They had a poll with what insects that they kill if found in their home. The majority on the poll said they kill any insect that enters the home. Top of the poll was spiders followed by flies, wasps, ants, slugs and woodlice. Someone even separately added ladybirds as something they kill. I admit I give zero tolerance to flies, wasps and slugs. I appreciate its each individuals home and everyone has different morals but I was surprised that the majority on the poll said they killed all insects. Whats the MN position on creepy crawlies then?

I try to shoo them out. I might kill a wasp or a bluebottle.

Nanny0gg · 30/11/2018 12:11

Flies, wasps, slugs or silverfish. Moths.

Never spiders, they get put outside.

Native ladybirds are rescued. Those foreign invaders get killed.

lynnepot · 30/11/2018 12:19

Nanny What on earth is a silverfish?

I wouldn't be able to tell the different between a native and non native ladybird either I don't think Confused

Fast moving livery small. Often associated with damp.

Foreign ladybirds are decimating our native ones

MrDonut · 30/11/2018 12:32

No, I don't kill anything except mosquitos.

Slugs are so sweet. I couldn't kill one.

RiverTam · 30/11/2018 12:35

mosquitos
silverfish

everything else is removed to the garden, from whence it came, a la The One Ring. Not that my garden looks like Mordor.

why kill a wasp? They're quite easy to get rid of, if you open a window they head for it quite smartly, unlike flies. Actually, I might kill a fly if it's buzzing is driving me nuts and it won't fly out of the wide open window,

ChoctasticFantastic · 30/11/2018 12:38

Only mosquitos here, everything else is relocated outside or left to its own devices.

blueangel1 · 30/11/2018 12:40

Mosquitos only. Everything else is put outside and DP is a dab hand at picking up spiders.

lynnepot · 30/11/2018 12:40

what do silverfish look like? I note two of you have listed them now. Are they harmful?

Wasps just put fear into me. I normally corner them in the window and spray with some sort of fly spray or any given aerosol/cleaning product spray to hand, and then peg it out the room and shut the door.

I shoo them out if possible. The only ones I kill are those that can’t be shooed and which will create a hygiene problem if allowed to remain eg flies and silverfish. Spiders are allowed to stay in the house and wander freely because they kill all the nasties!

Houseonahill · 30/11/2018 12:41

I couldn't squash a slug imagine the mess Envy

I kill spiders and flies but most other stuff gets put outside.

Willlowthewasp · 30/11/2018 12:41

Only mosquitoes are killed if I ever encounter them! All others are saved!

Hoppinggreen · 30/11/2018 12:42

In our house we have a rule that if you kill it you eat it.
So no, we don’t kill anything
On Holiday the odd mosquito does get it though as DS reacts badly to bites

ribblerobble · 30/11/2018 12:42

I kill mosquitoes only. Everything else can just be moved.

HebeMumsnet · 30/11/2018 12:43

Bees are saved, anything common or garden and not endangered takes its chances on my mood in my house.

ToastedSandwichObsession · 30/11/2018 12:48

I rescue most things, spider extremely large one was hoofed out yesterday.
Slugs if they get in my husband has to deal with.
Silverfish, onlyin one older house havewe had those, they were squished I'm afraid because they make my skin crawl.
Flies get batted out of a window or door.
I would never kill a bee.
Butterflies are a pain to get out but I do alingwith moths.

MrsLettuce · 30/11/2018 12:49

I kill mosquitos, make fruit fly traps if we get a proper invasion and kill flies that refuse to leave/be caught. Spiders are welcomed but sometimes moved to another room. Anything else is ignored or put outside.

Vitalogy · 30/11/2018 12:49

Do you kill creepy crawlies/insects that enter your home?
RiverTam · 30/11/2018 12:50

Hopping that's a nice idea but we get mozzies here in England and they always go for me (I think 27 bites was my record one time) so those fuckers are gone.

SylviaAndSidney · 30/11/2018 12:50

No, I roll my sleeves up and get it out. Unless it’s a moth, then it’s akin to having Michael Myers in the house and DP has to deal with it.

hellsbellsmelons · 30/11/2018 12:54

Flies and wasps, yes.
Moths, if I'm on my own (I fucking hate them) get properly killed.
Anything else gets caught and put back outside.

Knittink · 30/11/2018 12:57

If dh is home I'll get him to remove spiders, if not I kill them (if I can bear to get close enough ).

Anything flying I will try to waft out. If it's a wasp or a fly I'll kill it if I can't get it to go out. If it's a bee I would never kill it.

Babdoc · 30/11/2018 12:58

Insects? Pah! Wish they were all I had to deal with. I am owned by a hardcore madam of a cat. So I have, over the years, had to face a live succession of rats, frogs, large adult wood pigeon and innumerable mice!
One of the rats was the worst. I tried to shepherd it out the door with a broom, and it leaped for my throat. I ducked and it went flying over my shoulder!

caperplips · 30/11/2018 12:59

Only mosquitoes
Everything else left alone (spiders - none of us mind them ) or put outside

MardyArabella · 30/11/2018 13:00

We try and put spiders outside but often the cat gets to them first
