What is the best cake or dessert you have ever had?

I was recalling eating at Caffe Concerto over New Street station in Brum and their chocolate gateau slice was creamy loveliness.

Also can you send me a slice?

A baileys cheesecake at one specific pub, 20 years ago when I was a child. They stopped making it and I have declared war on them ever since. Nothing will ever live up to it.

A lemon polenta cake at Hay on Wye

I have recently been introduced to Jane's Patisserie. She basically makes cheesecake with chocolate bars suspended in the cheese bit.

🤤🤤🤤

When Boots the chemist had a cafe they did a great coffee cake - topped with toffee icing.

Iwantamarshmallow · 28/11/2018 21:51

About 18 years ago I had a churro at petticoat lane market. It was pumped full of jam then dipped in chocolate. It's still one of the best things I've ever tasted. Also Tesco used to make a thing called a pizzacookie that was also bloody amazing.

LagunaBubbles · 28/11/2018 21:51

My home made chocolate fudge cake! Grin

Numerodos · 28/11/2018 21:52

That's funny. I had the worst experience in cafe concerto at New Street! Expensive cream tea where the scones were microwaved till they were rubbery, and they didn't come with cream. Acted like I was mad when I asked. The clue is in the name, cream tea!
Best cake ever was a Polish cake at a local cafe. Wish I could remember the name. Looked the recipe up once and it was really complicated. Need to track it down. Pure deliciousness, I think it was honey and, walnut and cream cheese with lots of layers

My boss makes the most delicious kinder bueno cheesecake

exLtEveDallas · 28/11/2018 21:53

MarsLady's lemon drizzle cake!
(and my Choc fudge cake)

Hellomatey001 · 28/11/2018 21:53

Ooo err Numerodos glad I stayed away from the cream tea there!

Greggs used to do these little flake cakes it was a small square chocolate cake with chocolate fudge icing and a flake on top about 45p. And they discontinued it the bastards.
I've tried ever since to find a replacement and I never have the real cadburys one tastes nothing like it at all Sad

Penny1976 · 28/11/2018 22:01

We went to a farm shop in Cheshire and they had bakewell tart cake. It was honestly the most moist and delicious thing I have ever tasted in my life.

TeddybearBaby · 28/11/2018 22:26

Tgi fridays used to do this cookie sandwich thing. It had ice cream 🍦 in the middle of two chocolate chip cookies 🍪 obvs 😂. With warm toffee and chocolate sauce on top 😋🤤

Haisuli · 28/11/2018 22:29

Last year Gregg's had a children in need muffin. It was sticky toffee flavour with a lovely glazed ixing, then inside was some sort of white marshmallowy filling. I did a lot for children in need last year. Gutted they didn't seem to do them this year...

Haisuli · 28/11/2018 22:32

Actually I think it was a gingerbread flavour, my Gregg's muffin...

Lovingbenidorm · 28/11/2018 22:32

I don’t like cake at all but...............
Bajan Rum Cake is awesome!
For preference Tortuga, we always buy it in Barbados but I’m pretty sure you can get it on amazon

BikeRunSki · 28/11/2018 22:36

Deli/cafe in Snaith, East Yorkshire has a whole chiller cabinet of different types of chocolate cake. I am gradually working my way through them. The best cake in the world will be amongst them.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/11/2018 22:37

Rum Baba at Pargetters cafe, in Stratford on Avon. I went back to have another one, some years later, and it had become a McDonald’s - I was gutted!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/11/2018 22:39

A Bakewell slice I had recently in Bakewell! It was from a butcher's of all places and my god it was delicious almost syrupy inside rather than jam-like.

NancyDonahue · 28/11/2018 22:39

Lemon cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory. It was amazingly fluffy, like a mousse really, and very large.

rachelscake · 28/11/2018 22:40

This is so outing that I've actually name changed!

My friend makes the best lemon drizzle cake EVER. I'm obsessed with it. I have never had anything nearly as good as hers. Sadly, she's very busy these days and I can't demand loaves of lemon loveliness. Although, it doesn't bring the best out in me as I am reluctant to share it and eat it all in a shockingly short period of time.

TisConfusion · 28/11/2018 22:47

Someone already mentioned Jane's Patisserie - try her recipe for lemon and elderflower cake. Oh my goodness it's light, fluffy, moist - it's a favourite in this house.

bellabasset · 28/11/2018 22:49

I like homemade brownies dusted with a little icing sugar served with clotted cream ice cream. By mistake I used 50% cocoa dark chocolate instead if 70% but my neighbours dc's preferred it. Don't make it too often cos it has butter, sugar, eggs and chocolate so high in calories.

Chicolate fudge cake with salted caramel buttercream icing in the middle. Ace.

Reggie24 · 28/11/2018 22:50

My wedding cake, made by my dads lovely cousin. Looked beautiful and tasted amazing ! So lovely how much time and love had gone into it.

Teacherlikemisstrunchball · 28/11/2018 22:57

Homemade cakes are always better than shopbought ones I think. I make a mean coffee and walnut cake and a lovely lemon drizzle. My MIL makes amazing birthday cakes with a recipe like a vanilla drizzle-she bakes it and then pours vanilla syrup over it and then butter cream and fondant icing on the top. It’s heavenly.
